My Succubus Harem System In The Reverse World
Chapter 34: The Kitchen Knife’s Jealous ProhibitionChapter 34: Chapter 34: The Kitchen Knife’s Jealous Prohibition
Seeing Gianna outside my door eased my racing heart.
Frankly, I was terrified before she showed up.
Even though her favorability rating had spiked on my status screen, and even though we had kissed like animals in the training room, I was still afraid I had overstepped a major boundary.
I was fully aware that I basically lived under her mother’s roof and operated under her guild’s protection.
But more importantly, there were real feelings involved now.
And in my experience, bringing real feelings into the mix never went the right way.
I reached out, grabbed her wrist, and pulled Gianna straight into the room.
Before she could complain or put her guard back up, I wrapped my arms around her.
She stiffened for a second, holding a crinkly plastic grocery bag against my side, but I didn’t look at it.
I didn’t try to push my luck and kiss her again. I just buried my face against her shoulder and embraced her tightly. I held on as if not seeing her for a few hours had somehow drained the strength right out of my legs.
Gianna didn’t move.
She didn’t resist either.
This wasn’t what I expected at all.
When the system first chimed in my head and told me I had transmigrated into a reverse world, I thought I was about to have the time of my life.
I figured I would just coast along, rely on my overpowered class, sleep with multiple pretty women, and live a lavish, stress-free life.
But this?
A girl I had practically met yesterday was making me feel like there was something fundamentally broken inside my head.
Maybe it is the system messing with my brain chemistry.
Maybe my Succubus class is forcing this intense, magnetic attraction down my throat so I can secure a powerful Vanguard to survive.
Or maybe it is just me.
I’m not in love with her. I was sure of that fact.
And that’s exactly what scared me so much.
Because if I fell for her, which I definitely will soon if things keep going like this, I don’t know how I will operate when things get dangerous.
I don’t know if I could form bonds with others without constantly feeling guilty about it.
[Emotional volatility detected. The Succubus class typically forms parasitic bonds to ensure survival. Symbiotic emotional attachment is irregular and not recommended.]
[Exploit the target’s growing affection for maximum stat extraction rather than returning emotional reciprocation.]
Shut up, I thought, angrily swiping the blue screen away from my vision.
I wasn’t going to treat her like some disposable bullet. I finally broke the hug and took a step back, looking down at her perfectly deadpan face.
"Look who decided to show up," I teased, keeping my hands in my pockets so I wouldn’t reach for her again.
"Fuck off," she muttered, refusing to meet my eyes as a faint pink dusted her cheeks.
Gianna dismissed my presence, brushing past me to walk straight into the small kitchen.
She dropped the plastic bag onto the counter and started unpacking fresh vegetables.
I followed her, leaning casually against the doorframe to watch her line up a wooden cutting board and a chef’s knife.
"Are you going to cook for me?" I asked.
"I’m a pretty good cook too, you know."
Gianna froze. She turned around slowly, her red eyes narrowing as she looked at me with confusion.
"You? How?" she asked, her voice filled with suspicion.
Oh, fuck.
My stomach dropped to the floor.
I had blurted that out in excitement, forgetting the backstory of the original body.
I was supposed to be a research product. A lab experiment who had barely seen the outside world, let alone the inside of a culinary kitchen to learn how to prepare a meal.
"Uh, never mind," I coughed awkwardly.
"I think I must have read about it in a book or seen it on a television broadcast. Anyway, did you come all this way just to play chef for me?"
"Shut up, or I will leave," she threatened, pointing the tip of the kitchen knife at my chest.
"Okay, okay," I surrendered quickly, holding both of my hands up in defeat.
"My lips are sealed. The kitchen is all yours."
I pulled out a chair at the dining table and just sat there, resting my chin in my hand as I watched her work.
She chopped the vegetables with the same ruthless precision she used when swinging a sword in the training room.
It was actually kind of mesmerizing to watch her move.
She didn’t waste a single motion.
"So," I started, breaking the comfortable silence.
"Do you have any tips for tomorrow?"
Gianna didn’t bother looking up from the cutting board.
"Trust your teammates."
"Okay. What else?"
"Don’t rush to fight. Stay in the back line where you belong. Let the Vanguard handle the aggro."
"Right. Anything a little more specific to an actual gate break? I am trying to survive here."
"Only the result matters. If the boss dies and you survive without getting hurt, it is a successful raid."
I let out a loud laugh.
"You are just speaking in bullet points."
"Yes, I am," she replied dryly, using the flat of the knife to scrape the chopped peppers into a hot pan on the stove.
"Because you do not have the basic instincts of a seasoned fighter yet. If I give you complicated strategies, you will just overthink the situation and get yourself killed. Stick to the basics. Don’t die."
[Target is displaying high levels of protective instinct. Favorability is stabilizing within a positive feedback loop.]
I ignored the prompt, smiling at the back of her head.
"Don’t die. Got it. Very insightful advice. Your mother said the three girls I am running with tomorrow are highly talented. Do you know them?"
"I know of them," Gianna answered, stirring the pan with a spoon.
The sizzling sound filled the quiet apartment, making it feel strangely domestic.
"They are highly competent. But they are used to running standard formations with standard support classes. Having a male supporter with your skill set is going to throw their rhythm off."
"So what am I supposed to do? Just stand there and look pretty until someone begs for a buff?"
She paused, turning her head just enough to shoot me a lethal glare over her shoulder.
"If you try to kiss any of them in the middle of a fight, I will personally throw you back into a dungeon portal."
A huge grin spread across my face.
I couldn’t help it.
"Are you jealous, Gianna?"
"I’m being practical," she snapped back instantly.
"Distractions get people killed in a gate break."
"So it’s purely out of concern for my physical safety."
"Entirely."
"Good to know."
I watched her turn back to the stove, her shoulders relaxing just a fraction.
"Trust me, Gianna."
She didn’t reply.
I didn’t know what she was making, but the savory smell filling the small kitchen was amazing.
It smelled like home, and honestly, that was way better than anything I had expected when I first woke up in this crazy world.
