My Succubus Harem System In The Reverse World
Chapter 35: Locking Down Logistics for a Private Drive-InChapter 35: Chapter 35: Locking Down Logistics for a Private Drive-In
She set the plates down on the dining table, sliding one across to me before taking the seat opposite.
The steam rising off the food carried a scent that short-circuited my brain for a second.
It was a rich, spicy garlic butter steak paired with roasted potatoes and asparagus.
Literally my favorite meal from my old life, sitting right here in front of me in this bizarre alternate reality.
I picked up my fork, took one bite, and practically melted into the chair.
The seasoning was flawless, the meat practically falling apart on my tongue, and a sudden wave of nostalgia hit me right in the chest.
"How did you even know?"
Gianna didn’t look up from her plate, expertly slicing a piece of meat.
"Know what?"
"That this is exactly what I would kill to eat right now."
"I didn’t know anything," she lied, chewing her food with perfectly feigned indifference.
"I just bought what looked fresh at the market and threw it in a pan. If you hate it, you can gladly go starve."
"Right. A total coincidence."
Which it indeed was.
I couldn’t stop smiling as I took another huge bite.
She was so full of it, but I didn’t care.
The fact that she went out of her way to stand in the kitchen and cook for me was something I never would have predicted twenty-four hours ago.
A translucent blue screen popped into the corner of my vision, hovering right over my glass of water.
The quest was still active.
I swiped the screen away, slightly annoyed by the system’s constant need to gamify every single interaction we shared.
The quiet hum of the refrigerator, the clinking of our forks against the porcelain plates, the way she tucked a strand of blue-tipped hair behind her ear when she thought I wasn’t looking- all of it felt separated from the crazy reality of dungeons and gate breaks.
I cleared my throat, leaning forward and resting my elbows on the table.
"Once I clear the simulation tomorrow, go out with me the next day."
Gianna stopped eating. Her fork hovered halfway to her mouth, and she slowly raised her red eyes to meet mine, blinking a few times as if she hadn’t quite processed the vocabulary I just used.
"Go out where?" she asked.
"The training grounds? We already booked the private simulation rooms for the rest of the week."
I let out a sigh, dropping my face into my hands for a brief second before looking back at her.
"No. I refuse to spend a free day getting thrown around a padded room. Not training."
"Then what else is there to do?"
"Let’s go somewhere. Just the two of us."
She narrowed her eyes, placing her fork down on the table very carefully.
"Are you asking me to run a perimeter patrol? Because if this is about scouting for low-level portal anomalies, my mother already has teams assigned to—"
"A date, Gianna," I interrupted, spelling it out as clearly as humanly possible.
"I am asking you out on a date. Like a normal guy asking a normal girl to go do something unrelated to monsters or mana cores."
Silence stretched across the table.
I could practically see the gears turning in her head, analyzing the request like it was a complex battle strategy that didn’t make any logical sense.
"...A date," she repeated, testing the word on her tongue.
"Yes. Let’s go see a movie. Eat popcorn. Turn our brains off for two hours."
"Absolutely not."
Her rejection was so fast it actually gave me whiplash.
"Why? Do you hate movies?"
"I hate crowded theaters," she countered, crossing her arms defensively.
"Do you have any idea how annoying it is to sit in a room full of civilians? Half of them will recognize my guild insignia. The other half will try to take pictures of us with their phones. And if some idiot drops their drink or makes a loud noise, my Vanguard instincts will kick in, and I will probably end up throwing someone through a wall before I realize it isn’t an ambush."
Okay, fair point.
Taking an elite, combat-wired fighter to a packed public cinema probably wasn’t the smartest move for a relaxing evening.
"Fine, no crowded theaters," I conceded, leaning back in my chair.
"But I am not letting you off the hook that easily. There has to be a compromise."
Gianna looked away, chewing on her lower lip for a moment as she debated something internally.
Finally, she let out a frustrated breath.
"There is a drive-away theater on the outskirts of the city," she muttered, staring very intensely at her half-eaten potato.
"A drive-in?"
"Yes. You just park the car. You sit in the car. You watch the screen through the windshield. Nobody bothers you, nobody asks for autographs, and I don’t have to worry about accidentally elbowing a civilian in the throat."
My mind instantly painted the picture.
The two of us, alone, enclosed in the small, intimate space of a car, watching a movie under the night sky.
For a guy with a Succubus class that literally feeds on proximity and tension, that setup was basically a goldmine.
Wow, that is fucking fantastic.
[System Alert: High probability of intimate physical contact detected. Arousal metrics are projected to spike. Excellent tactical maneuver.]
"That actually sounds perfect," I agreed, picking my fork back up.
"We take a car, we get some snacks, and we watch whatever is playing. No crowds, no stress. Just a quiet night."
Gianna eyed me suspiciously, clearly trying to figure out if I had some kind of hidden agenda.
"You are agreeing to this awfully fast."
"Because it’s a great idea."
"You just want to sit in a locked car with me."
"Yes. But I also want to watch a movie without you throwing a teenager through a concession stand," I corrected, not missing a beat.
"The locked car is just a safety precaution for the general public."
A tiny, almost imperceptible smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth before she quickly hid it behind her glass of water.
"Fine," she agreed.
"But you have to clear the simulation tomorrow first. If you mess up your mana loop and shatter the test dummies, the deal is off."
"Deal," I promised, feeling a surge of confidence wash over me.
"I will handle the simulation without breaking a sweat. You just figure out what movie we are going to watch."
She rolled her eyes, picking up her fork again.
"Eat your food before it gets cold."
I did exactly that, the food somehow tasting even better now that the pressure was off.
The tension that had been suffocating me ever since she showed up at my door had entirely vanished, replaced by a comfortable warmth.
I didn’t know exactly what the future held, and I was still terrified of how fast my feelings were spiraling out of control, but looking across the table at her right now?
I knew I wouldn’t trade this for anything.
