Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Appetite and Autonomy

Rei wasn’t kissing out of passion.

I could at least deduce that much.

What Gianna and I had shared inside the training room was different from this. That had been messy, hesitant, and real. This was something colder.

Her tongue moved inside my mouth, searching for something, as if it were waiting. Testing. Measuring the same surge she had felt in the cavern and trying to force it to happen again.

My instincts told me to wrap my arms around her waist, pin her harder against the wall, and kiss her until she was out of breath. The Succubus part of me liked the aggression.

It liked the way she was trying to take.

But no.

I pushed her back, making sure neither Vital Drain Kiss nor any other skill was active during the movement.

My hands caught her jaw, holding her face steady. Her dark eyes didn’t move anywhere else.

They stayed fixed on me, sharp and hungry.

"What is this?" I asked. "One second you were hating me to death. Now you want to make love?"

Rei scoffed.

"Love? Pretty big words for someone who kissed me first."

"That wasn’t love. I did it to stop the ejection. Teamwork is all it was."

"I agree." Her voice was steady. "I never thought of it as more than that either. But you see, Revien... your kiss changed something in me."

My eyes narrowed.

"Are you addicted?"

"Maybe."

I tilted her head slightly, hands tightening on her jaw just enough to keep her from leaning in again.

"I’m not doing this. Whatever you experienced when we kissed, that was for the simulation alone."

I pushed her away and stepped clear of the wall.

"Don’t expect something like that again."

Rei wasn’t surprised.

In fact, she was smiling now, and that made it worse. The expression sat wrong on her face, too curious, too interested.

"Oh, I’m going to enjoy this," she said, walking closer again.

I didn’t step back, but I also didn’t give her another opening.

"You know... my mother has a guild too, same sector. Better facilities. How about you come with me?"

The words landed exactly where Gianna’s earlier warning had left a mark.

Is this what she meant?

About people trying to pull me away? About betrayal?

"No need," I said. "I’m content with where I am."

Rei studied me for a long second. The smile didn’t fade, but it thinned.

"You’re loyal. That’s cute."

"I’m practical. Jenna took the risk when no one else would. I’m not walking away because you got a taste of something you like."

"A taste isn’t enough."

She tilted her head, her hair still loose around her shoulders.

"You expanded my core. Not a temporary buff. Actual growth. Do you have any idea how rare that is?"

"I have some idea."

"Then you understand why I’m not going to pretend this didn’t happen."

She took another step closer.

"I don’t want a soft partnership. I don’t need someone to hold my hand in a dungeon. I want the power you just proved you can give. And I’m willing to take it the hard way if I have to."

I met her eyes without flinching.

"You’re talking like I’m a resource."

"You are." Her voice stayed calm.

"In this world, every support is. The only difference is most of them run dry after a few exchanges. You didn’t. That makes you valuable. And valuable things get claimed."

"I’m already claimed."

"By Jenna. And by extension, Gianna."

Rei’s mouth curved slightly.

"I like Gia. She’s one of the few who can actually keep up with me. That doesn’t mean I’m going to step aside and watch her keep the only support who can actually push my potential."

The tether from the earlier energy transfer still sat under my skin like a faint bruise. I could feel the way her mana had changed. The system notifications from the cavern were still burned into my memory: level jumps, class mutation, the dangerous spike in arousal, and the hostile-obsessed favorability reading.

She wasn’t bluffing.

"I’m not transferring guilds," I said. "And I’m not becoming your personal battery."

"We’ll see."

She didn’t push further. She simply adjusted the collar of her combat top, turned, and walked out of the side room like the conversation had reached the only conclusion she needed for now.

I stayed where I was for a few extra seconds, letting the last of the tension drain out of my shoulders. The taste of her still lingered, iron and heat and something sharper underneath. Not passion. Appetite.

When I finally stepped back into the corridor, Rei was already standing in front of Jenna.

"We need to talk," she said.

Jenna’s expression didn’t change, but her eyes flicked once to me, then back to Rei.

Mira was still nearby, tablet in hand, clearly pretending not to listen while recording every word.

I walked over and stopped a short distance away, close enough to hear, far enough that it didn’t look like I was inserting myself.

Jenna spoke first.

"You want additional simulation slots with Team Four."

"I want consistent training access to him," Rei corrected.

"The mutation data is already logged. You saw the level jump. You saw the core expansion. I’m not asking for charity. I’m asking for results."

"You’re asking to monopolize a support who is still under evaluation," Jenna replied evenly.

"And you’re doing it less than a few hours after a high-risk energy transfer that nearly destabilized your own core."

Rei’s jaw tightened, but she didn’t deny it.

"I’m stable now."

"You’re riding the high," Mira cut in without looking up from her tablet.

"The enhanced state has a hard ten-minute window. What you’re feeling afterward is the aftershock. It will fade. The craving might not."

Rei ignored her and kept her eyes on Jenna.

"I’m not interested in partnerships or shared schedules that water everything down. I want intensity. He can provide it. I’m offering my guild’s resources in exchange if that’s what it takes."

Jenna’s voice stayed level.

"My answer is no."

The silence that followed was short and cruel.

Rei didn’t raise her voice. She simply nodded once, as if she had expected the refusal and filed it away for later.

"Then I’ll request joint exercises through official channels. Sector rules allow it."

"They do," Jenna agreed.

"And I’ll review every request carefully. You’re talented, Rei. You’re also reckless with your own blood supply and newly exposed to a power source you don’t fully understand. That combination is dangerous."

Rei’s gaze slid to me for half a second.

"I understand it well enough."

Jenna looked at me, standing far away.

"You kissed her."

Not a question.
