My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 19 - 10% Sync Rate, The Poisoned DaggersThe dark alley was completely silent.
Six elite Church assassins formed a tight circle around Saile. Their heavy black cloaks hid their faces, but their polished silver armor caught the faint moonlight. They held their curved daggers loosely at their sides. The sharp metal dripped with a thick, glowing green liquid.
"Poison," Naicul warned coldly inside Saile’s mind. "Do not let those blades scratch your skin. A single tiny cut will paralyze your muscles and melt your blood."
Saile tightened his grip on the Corroded Divine Blade.
The heavy, rusted iron weighed down his tired arms. Without his dark EX-Rank mana fueling it, the ancient sword was little more than a clumsy, blunt club.
He was Level 22.
These elite killers were Level 35.
The gap in raw stats and combat experience was terrifying.
The lead assassin moved first.
He did not yell a battle cry. He simply dashed forward, thrusting his poisoned dagger directly at Saile’s throat with terrifying speed.
Saile reacted purely on instinct.
He swung the heavy, rusted blade upward with all his might to block the sudden strike.
Clang!
Bright sparks flew wildly into the air as the dagger collided with the rusty iron.
The heavy impact rattled Saile’s teeth and sent a painful shock down both of his arms.
Before he could push the assassin back, two more killers rushed in from his left.
They swung their green, glowing blades in low, deadly arcs, aiming to cut his legs out from under him.
Saile’s eyes narrowed.
He could not block three attacks at once.
The rusted sword was far too slow and heavy.
He needed his speed.
Saile released the blade.
The Corroded Divine Blade crashed onto the dirt floor with a heavy thud.
"Phantom Step," Saile whispered under his breath.
Boom!
A sharp sonic boom echoed through the narrow alley.
Saile turned into a blurry, vibrating shadow.
He vanished from the deadly circle with impossible speed.
The poisoned daggers slashed through empty air.
Saile reappeared near the cold brick wall of the alley. He did not stop moving for even a second.
He planted his boot hard against the rough stone and launched himself upward.
One step.
Two.
Three.
His Level 22 agility allowed him to sprint vertically along the wall, his fingers reaching toward the edge of the low rooftop above him.
"I am out," Saile thought quickly.
His fingers were only inches away from the ledge.
But he had severely underestimated the veteran killers.
The assassins did not panic when he escaped.
They had expected it.
A dark shadow suddenly dropped from the rooftop above him.
Another assassin had been waiting there the entire time.
The killer flipped gracefully through the air, completely intercepting Saile mid-jump.
His hips twisted sharply.
His leg came down in a brutal spinning kick.
Smack!
The Level 35 attack slammed directly into Saile’s exposed chest.
The physical force was overwhelming.
A visible shockwave rippled through the damp air.
All the air was violently ripped from Saile’s lungs.
He was knocked cleanly away from the wall, falling backward through the empty space.
Boom!
He crashed heavily into the hard dirt below.
A thick cloud of dust exploded around his body.
Saile’s vision blurred.
Dark spots spun across his eyes.
He coughed violently, spitting a mouthful of warm blood onto his torn tunic.
His chest burned like it was on fire.
His ribs felt bruised and battered.
"Get up!" Naicul roared angrily inside his mind.
Saile tried to roll away.
A heavy silver boot suddenly slammed down onto his right shoulder, pinning him firmly against the dirt.
The lead assassin stood directly over him.
The killer raised his poisoned dagger.
The green liquid glowed dangerously in the darkness.
The other five assassins quickly closed the circle again.
There was no gap.
No escape.
They moved with perfect, almost robotic teamwork.
Saile could not use Phantom Step while pinned down.
He could not fight six veterans bare-handed.
He was completely outmatched.
A golden System screen suddenly flashed across his blurred vision.
The bright gold instantly turned into a sick, bleeding red.
[HP: 12%... 8%...]
[Critical Damage Detected.]
[System Override Pending...]
Saile stared at the message.
"This is it," Naicul whispered.
The ancient God no longer sounded angry.
He sounded eager.
Hungry.
His cold voice echoed inside Saile’s skull.
"You tried to run, and you failed miserably. They are going to melt your veins with that green poison. Go to sleep, boy. Let me handle this mess."
The dark EX-Rank mana inside Saile’s chest began to shift.
The freezing, intoxicating power of the Fallen God pushed outward, trying to force Saile’s human consciousness into the dark void.
If he went to sleep now, Naicul would save his life.
The God would take control of his body and slaughter these six men with terrifying ease.
But Saile knew the price.
The Sync Rate would skyrocket.
He would lose another massive piece of himself.
He would wake up colder.
Emptier.
And if the Sync Rate ever reached one hundred percent, Saile Retrac would be permanently erased.
He would no longer be himself.
Just a memory.
The assassin’s arm tensed.
The poisoned blade began descending toward Saile’s heart.
Saile refused to disappear.
He refused to let the God take his life.
He violently bit down on his bottom lip.
His teeth pierced through the skin.
Fresh blood filled his mouth.
The sudden pain shocked his exhausted mind awake.
The metallic taste grounded him in reality.
He fought against the System override with everything he had left.
"I am not going to sleep!"
Saile’s voice rang through the quiet alley.
"Stop fighting me, you stubborn idiot!" Naicul shouted back.
The God’s voice rumbled with absolute frustration.
"You cannot beat them with your weak human instincts! They are trained killers! If you die right now, I am stuck in this dark void forever!"
"Then let us make a deal."
Saile pushed his human willpower hard against the God’s dark energy.
"A deal?" Naicul paused.
"I will not let you take complete control of my body," Saile said firmly.
His brown eyes remained locked on the poisoned dagger descending toward his chest.
"I keep my mind. I keep my mortal emotions."
His grip tightened against the dirt.
"But you give me your battle experience."
Saile’s voice became colder.
"You feed your ancient combat instincts directly into my muscles."
"We fight them together."
For a brief moment, Naicul was completely silent.
The ancient God weighed the choice carefully.
If the boy died, they both lost everything.
Naicul had never shared his instincts like this before.
It was a desperate compromise.
A dangerous middle ground.
"Fine," Naicul finally growled.
His voice was cold and threatening.
"But if you mess this up, I am taking your body by pure force."
Saile pushed his EX-Rank mana core to spin under extreme pressure.
He manually forced the System override, merging his human determination with the Fallen God’s ancient combat knowledge.
The red System screens flickered violently in his vision.
The bleeding text shifted.
Changed.
Then suddenly turned bright gold.
[System Override Modified.]
[Initiating Partial Synchronization: 10%.]
A freezing rush of energy exploded through Saile’s veins.
But it did not drag his mind into darkness.
Instead, his brain suddenly filled with thousands of years of bloody combat experience.
It was overwhelming.
He instantly understood the exact angle of a sword swing.
He could read the smallest shift in an opponent’s shoulders.
He knew exactly how a person’s weight moved before they attacked.
He understood balance.
Timing.
Distance.
Killing angles.
His tired muscles twitched as if they had suddenly remembered movements they had never performed before.
Saile opened his eyes.
They did not turn completely silver.
His right eye remained warm human brown.
His emotions were still his own.
But his left eye flashed with a piercing silver light.
The power of the Fallen God flowed through it.
The lead assassin finally thrust the poisoned dagger downward.
Saile did not panic.
His new instincts took over.
He rolled his left shoulder at the perfect moment.
The deadly green blade slammed into the dirt barely an inch from his neck.
Before the assassin could react, Saile’s left hand shot upward.
He grabbed the killer’s wrist.
Hard.
The assassin’s body froze for the briefest moment.
The frightened, hunted boy from moments ago was gone.
Saile’s face was completely calm.
Cold.
Predatory.
The six elite killers had absolutely no idea what had just changed.
Saile reached out with his right hand.
His fingers closed around the hilt of the heavy, rusted blade lying in the dirt.
He pulled it toward himself.
The weapon suddenly felt different.
Before, it had felt like a clumsy club.
Now...
It felt like an extension of his own arm.
The ancient combat instincts flowing through his body had taught him how to move with it.
How to balance its ridiculous weight.
How to turn its weakness into strength.
Saile slowly rose from the dirt.
His left eye burned silver.
His right eye remained human.
Six Level 35 assassins surrounded him.
For the first time since the hunt began, Saile was no longer thinking about escaping.
He was thinking about how to win.
He tightened his grip on the Corroded Divine Blade.
He was finally ready to fight back.
