My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 24: Catastrophe-Class, The Smuggler’s ShipThe night air was freezing.
Saile crouched quietly on a flat stone roof in Valerius, hiding securely in the dark shadows. He rubbed his left thumb against his new silver storage ring. It held the dead Gold-Rank Executor’s massive pile of gold coins. He finally had real money to survive, but the danger was closing in incredibly fast.
Suddenly, a loud, magical hum buzzed through the entire city. Every glowing crystal screen in the streets flared to life. The bright light cut sharply through the dark night.
Saile crawled to the edge of the stone roof and looked down at the massive screens in the town square. A face appeared on the smooth glass. It was an old man wearing a heavy crown of white gold. His eyes looked cold, calculating, and full of fake warmth.
"Pope Naissac," Naicul hissed viciously inside Saile’s mind. The ancient God’s voice dripped with raw, boiling hatred.
"Look at him. He is wearing my stolen power like a cheap suit."
The Pope’s magically amplified voice boomed across the city, echoing loudly off every single stone wall.
"Children of the Light," Pope Naissac spoke smoothly, his voice sounding incredibly sad. "Tonight, a terrible tragedy has struck. One of our most devoted Gold-Rank Executors was brutally murdered in Valerius. The dark magic used to kill him belongs to the ancient enemy. The Fallen One has found a vessel."
The image on the crystal screens changed. It showed a highly detailed sketch of Saile’s face, his messy brown hair, and his tattered tunic.
"This boy is a Catastrophe-Class Heretic," the Pope declared loudly. His voice turned completely hard and ruthless. "He carries the darkest magic in history. I am placing a bounty of one million gold coins on his head. Find him. Bring him to the Holy Church to burn."
The screens faded to pitch black.
Down in the streets, the city immediately erupted into total chaos. Mercenaries, veteran hunters, and heavily armored Church guards started shouting wildly, drawing their glowing weapons.
One million gold coins was enough to make any man betray his own family.
Every single person in Valerius had instantly become a lethal threat looking for his blood.
"The entire Holy Continent is a giant death trap now," Naicul warned coldly. "You cannot hide here anymore. We need to leave immediately."
"I know," Saile thought back firmly.
Pulling his dark stealth cloak tightly over his shoulders, he dropped into a dark alley and sprinted toward the outer walls. His new Level 35 stats made him incredibly fast and completely silent.
He slipped past the panicked guard checkpoints like a ghost, his boots barely making a sound against the cobblestones.
Reaching the massive stone wall surrounding Valerius, he did not hesitate. He planted his heavy boots against the solid rock.
He executed a flawless, rapid wall-run, sprinting straight up the fifty-foot brick face in just a few seconds. He grabbed the top edge, flipped over the stone ledge, and dropped into the wild forest.
He hit the grassy ground in a tight shoulder roll recovery, his muscles absorbing the heavy impact effortlessly. He bounced right back up to his feet without losing any speed, the dark stealth cloak billowing behind him.
He broke into a dead sprint, leaving the shouting guards far behind.
Saile ran through the dark woods for hours. He did not feel tired at all. His Level 35 muscles burned with endless, explosive energy, pushing him forward with a terrifying new grace.
He traveled through the quiet night, his boots crunching softly against the dead leaves.
He headed straight for the coast. He needed to find the Lawless Territories, a brutal desert place where the Church had no power.
At sunrise, Saile smelled the salty ocean.
He stepped out of the thick trees and looked down at a gritty, dirty port city. It was called Kraken’s Point.
The port was packed with loud, rough sailors and broken ships. The water hitting the wooden docks did not look normal. It was dark, thick, and almost completely black.
It was the edge of the highly dangerous Dead Sea.
Saile walked down the muddy hill and entered the port. Wanted posters with his face were already nailed to the wooden walls of the local taverns.
The Church worked incredibly fast.
He bypassed the main docks, heading for the rotting, hidden wooden piers at the back of the city. He needed a black-market smuggler.
He spotted a large, heavily armed wooden ship anchored at the very edge of the pier. A group of heavily scarred sailors were loading wooden crates onto the deck, completely ignoring the strict city laws.
The ship had no official flag, and the large canvas sails were dyed pitch black.
Saile walked toward the ship’s wooden ramp, but two massive men stepped out from behind a stack of barrels.
They completely blocked his path.
They wore dirty leather armor and carried thick iron maces.
The System quickly scanned them.
[Target: Port Enforcer. Level: 28.]
"The docks are closed, kid," the first thug growled, spitting dark tobacco onto the wooden planks.
Saile did not move.
"I need to buy passage across the Dead Sea. I have gold."
The second thug narrowed his eyes. He leaned forward, looking closely under Saile’s dark hood.
His ugly face lit up with greedy excitement.
"Hey," the second thug whispered loudly. "Look at his face. That is the kid from the posters. The Catastrophe-Class Heretic. He is worth a million gold coins!"
The first thug smiled a wicked, broken smile. He raised his heavy iron mace.
"Looks like today is our lucky day. Break his legs!"
"Fools," Naicul laughed coldly inside Saile’s mind. "Show them the difference between Level 28 trash and a Level 35 anomaly."
Saile did not reach for the Calamity Fang.
He would beat them bare-handed.
The first thug swung his heavy iron mace in a brutal horizontal strike, aiming directly for Saile’s ribs to shatter his bones.
Saile ducked smoothly under the heavy weapon, feeling the wind from the mace graze his hood.
He planted his hands firmly against the wooden dock and whipped his right leg around in a rapid, forceful spin sweep.
His boot slammed brutally into the thug’s thick ankles.
The man yelled in surprise as his legs were swept completely out from under him. He crashed hard onto the wooden planks, dropping his iron mace with a loud clang.
The second thug roared in pure anger.
He raised his weapon high above his head, bringing it down with all his might to crush Saile’s skull.
"Phantom Step," Saile whispered calmly.
Boom!
A loud sonic boom cracked in the salty air.
Saile turned into a blurry, vibrating shadow. He vanished instantly from his spot, moving faster than the human eye could track.
The heavy mace smashed violently into the wooden docks, splintering the thick planks into pieces.
Saile appeared perfectly in the air directly behind the giant man.
While hanging upside down, Saile twisted his hips sharply. He unleashed a devastating aerial twist kick.
Smack!
His heavy boot caught the thug right in the back of the neck.
A visible shockwave exploded from the brutal physical impact. The sheer force of Saile’s Level 35 strength was totally overwhelming.
The giant man flew forward, crashing face-first into a stack of heavy wooden crates.
The crates shattered completely, burying the unconscious man under the broken wood.
The first thug scrambled frantically back to his feet.
He grabbed his heavy iron mace with shaking hands, swinging it wildly in a desperate, sloppy panic to keep the terrifying boy away.
Saile landed smoothly on the docks, his balance perfect.
He pushed off his back foot, dashing straight into the man’s sloppy guard before the mace could swing again.
Dropping his weight low, Saile threw his entire body forward into a heavy, rising right uppercut.
Crack!
His fist connected cleanly with the bottom of the thug’s chin.
The wind shrieked locally as the massive man was lifted entirely off the ground by the heavy blow.
His eyes rolled back into his head.
He hit the wooden pier with a heavy thud and did not move again.
Saile stood over the unconscious bodies, having dominated the fight in seconds.
The black-market ship’s captain walked down the wooden ramp. He looked at the beaten thugs, then up at Saile.
"I need to cross the Dead Sea," Saile said clearly. He kept his face completely blank.
"I need to reach the Lawless Territories. Today."
The captain frowned.
"The Dead Sea is dangerous. Poisoned water, huge monsters, wild storms."
Saile did not argue.
His silver storage ring flashed, and a heavy leather pouch of gold materialized in his palm.
He tossed it.
The captain caught it easily. He opened the strings and looked inside. The bright, shiny gold coins caught the morning light.
He tied the gold securely to his thick leather belt.
"I do not care if you are a Heretic, a demon, or a king," the captain laughed loudly. "Gold is gold. Welcome aboard the ship, kid. We leave right now."
Saile nodded.
He walked up the wooden ramp onto the dark deck.
The sailors quickly pulled up the anchor and dropped the pitch-black sails. The wind caught the thick fabric, pushing the ship away from the wooden docks.
They sailed out of the safety of the port, heading straight into the dark, rolling waves of the Dead Sea.
Saile walked to the back of the ship. He leaned against the wooden rail, watching the Holy Continent shrink in the distance.
"We will come back," Naicul promised darkly in his mind. "We will grow stronger in the Lawless Territories. And when we return, we will burn their Holy Capital to the ground."
"Yes," Saile agreed quietly.
He touched the hilt of the Calamity Fang tied to his back.
"We will."
