My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 29: Phantom Step, The Stone GolemsThe dark stone hallway stretched endlessly into the heavy shadows.
Saile walked slowly, dragging his wet boots across the dusty floor. He kept his head down, playing the part of the terrified F-Rank peasant perfectly.
Behind him, the wealthy Academy elites laughed and joked. They did not pay any
attention to their surroundings. They complained loudly about the smell of the
ancient tomb.
"Move faster, trash," Luap demanded harshly.
The lead noble shoved Saile in the back with the flat of his glowing broadsword.
"I want to finish this stupid trial before my boots get totally ruined," Luap
sneered.
Saile stumbled forward on purpose. He let out a fake, shaky breath to keep up his disguise.
"I am trying, my lord," Saile lied quietly.
"You are just a coward," Luap replied coldly.
The noble shoved past Saile aggressively, completely losing his patience. He marched right down the center of the dark corridor, eager to find the treasure.
Saile stopped walking instantly. His brown eyes locked onto a slightly raised stone tile right in front of Luap’s silver boot.
"He is going to step right on it," Naicul whispered in Saile’s mind. The ancient God sounded incredibly amused.
Click.
The sharp sound echoed loudly off the cavern walls. Luap froze in his tracks. The arrogant noble looked down at the pressure plate under his foot.
The ground began to tremble violently. It was not just a small vibration. The heavy shaking knocked the rich students right off their balance.
Thick dust fell from the stone ceiling. The heavy rock walls on both sides of the hallway began to grind and slide open.
Heavy, massive footsteps echoed out from the hidden dark rooms.
Ten enormous figures marched slowly into the corridor. They were Stone Golems. They stood over ten feet tall, made entirely of jagged gray rock and ancient, glowing blue runes.
Bright red System screens flashed instantly in front of Saile’s eyes.
[Target: Ancient Stone Golem.] [Level: 40.] [Threat Level: High.]
"Level 40!" the female noble screamed in pure panic. She raised her green magical staff with shaking hands. "The instructors said the highest monsters left were Level 20!"
"Stand your ground!" Luap roared, trying to sound brave. He gripped his beautiful broadsword tightly with both hands. "They are just stupid rocks! I am an A-Rank noble!"
The lead golem raised a massive stone fist and swung it down like a heavy hammer.
Luap swung his glowing sword upward to block the strike. Bright holy fire erupted from his blade.
Clang!
The heavy collision rattled the entire hallway. Bright orange sparks flew wildly into the dusty air. Luap was pushed forcefully backward, his silver boots sliding across the dirt.
The arrogant noble looked at the golem in total shock. His powerful holy magic had not left a single tiny scratch on the monster’s rocky arm. The ancient blue runes on the golem’s body absorbed the light magic completely.
"My sword did nothing!" Luap yelled, his voice cracking with real fear.
The female noble fired a massive bolt of green magical lightning from her staff. The lightning slammed directly into a golem’s chest. It bounced right off the hard stone with a loud fizzle, doing zero damage.
"Their armor is completely immune to modern magic," Naicul laughed darkly in
Saile’s mind. "My vanguard forged those golems to fight the Abyss. Flashy Academy spells will never break them."
The golems marched forward together. Their heavy stone feet shook the ground with every single step.
The elites’ formation broke instantly. The two Holy Knights screamed and dropped their spears, scrambling wildly backward. The wealthy nobles tripped over their own expensive cloaks as they tried to run away.
They were absolutely terrified. They were seconds away from being crushed into a
bloody paste.
Luap fell hard onto his back, staring up at the giant stone fist coming down to smash his skull.
Saile let out a long, heavy sigh.
He dropped his F-Rank disguise completely. He stopped suffocating his EX-Rank mana core. He let the dark, violent power explode outward through his veins.
"My turn," Saile said softly.
He pushed off his back foot. The stone floor cracked instantly under his boots.
Boom!
The air ripped apart with a deafening sonic boom. Saile launched himself forward with incredible Level 36 speed. He moved so fast that the wind shrieked wildly behind him.
He dived right past the crawling nobles, dropping into a tight shoulder roll recovery. He bounced smoothly to his feet right in front of the falling stone fist.
Saile reached over his shoulder and drew the Calamity Fang.
The pitch-black odachi hissed loudly as it hit the cold air. Dark purple lightning sparked aggressively along the sharp edge.
"Phantom Step," Saile whispered.
Another sonic boom cracked in the hallway. Saile turned into a blurry, vibrating shadow. He vanished completely before the golem’s heavy fist could hit him. The stone fist smashed into the dirt floor, creating a deep crater.
Saile appeared instantly in the air, floating high above the lead golem’s rocky head.
While falling through the dusty air, he twisted his hips sharply. He chained his modern acrobatics perfectly with his ancient weapon. He unleashed a devastating aerial twist kick.
Smack!
His heavy boot caught the golem right on the side of its rocky jaw. A visible shockwave exploded from the brutal physical impact. The sheer force of Saile’s Level 36 strength threw the giant monster completely off balance.
The golem stumbled sideways, leaving its thick neck totally exposed.
Saile landed perfectly on the dirt. He gripped the Calamity Fang tightly with both hands. He channeled his dark mana strictly to the very edge of the blade, using perfect macro-mana control.
"Divine Strike!" Saile roared loudly.
The pitch-black sword flared with blinding dark light. He swung the heavy odachi in a brutal, sweeping horizontal slash.
The dark blade cut cleanly through the ancient stone neck. It sliced right through the glowing blue runes with absolutely zero resistance.
The lead golem’s massive head slid right off its shoulders. It crashed heavily onto the floor with a loud, ringing thud.
The rich Academy elites gasped. They sat frozen in the dirt, their jaws hanging wide open in pure, unadulterated horror. The F-Rank peasant had just decapitated a Level 40 boss mob in a single second.
Saile did not stop moving. He did not even look at the stunned nobles.
Nine more Stone Golems turned their heavy bodies toward him. They raised their rocky fists, ready to crush the new threat.
"Do not let them box you in!" Naicul commanded sharply. "Keep moving! Break
their joints!"
Saile pushed off the stone floor. He dashed straight toward the closest cavern wall. He planted his boot against the rough rock and executed a flawless wall-run. He sprinted three rapid steps horizontally across the wall, easily avoiding two massive, swinging stone fists.
He launched himself off the wall, diving right into the middle of the enemy pack.
Saile dropped into a low, tight crouch. He planted his free hand on the dirt and
whipped his right leg around in a rapid, lightning-fast spin sweep.
His heavy boot slammed brutally into the knees of two golems. The physical force
cracked their ancient joints perfectly. The two massive monsters lost their balance and crashed backward into the dust.
Saile popped right back up to his feet. He twisted his hips and threw his entire body weight forward into a rising right uppercut. His fist connected cleanly with a falling golem’s chest plate.
Crack!
The thick stone shattered inward from the heavy blow. The wind shrieked locally as the heavy beast was lifted inches off the ground.
Saile did not give them a single second to recover. He swung the Calamity Fang in a tight, spinning arc.
The dark purple lightning cut through the air like a deadly ribbon. Saile moved like a total blur of black lightning. He sliced through thick stone arms. He severed heavy rocky legs. Every single strike was perfectly aimed and completely devastating.
One golem tried to smash him from behind.
"Shadow Swap," Saile whispered calmly.
He turned into dark smoke, swapping places with a broken pillar’s shadow. The golem smashed its own ally instead. Saile appeared directly behind the confused monster and thrust his black blade straight through its rocky spine.
In less than thirty seconds, the fierce battle was over.
Saile stood completely alone in the center of the dark hallway. Ten massive piles of broken, dusty rocks lay scattered across the dirt. He breathed heavily, his chest rising and falling in the quiet air.
He rested the heavy black sword casually on his shoulder. He looked completely bored.
"Good work," Naicul laughed darkly in his mind. "You completely destroyed them. Now, eat."
The broken rocks began to glow brightly. They dissolved rapidly into beautiful blue and gold orbs of light. The glowing orbs rushed through the dusty air and slammed powerfully into Saile’s chest.
Golden System screens popped up, lighting up the dark hallway.
[EX-Rank Talent: Endless Devourer Activated.] [Enemies Defeated. Massive EXP Gained.]
A rush of incredible, burning heat flooded his tired muscles. The heat felt amazing. The sheer amount of EXP from ten Level 40 mobs was absolutely massive.
More items dropped from the fading light. Saile reached out quickly and grabbed them before they hit the dirt.
[Loot Drop: Weapon Fragment x4 acquired.] [Loot Drop: Skill Shard x2 acquired.]
He pictured the items vanishing, storing them safely inside his high-tier silver storage ring. He was gaining strength incredibly fast.
Saile turned around slowly.
The five rich Academy elites were still sitting in the dirt. They stared at him with wide, completely terrified eyes. Luap was shaking so badly his shiny silver armor rattled loudly.
The dirty, bleeding, unawakened peasant they had just threatened to kill was not a peasant at all. He was a walking nightmare. He had just slaughtered a horde of elite monsters without taking a single scratch.
"What... what are you?" the female noble stammered weakly. She dropped her green
magical staff onto the floor.
Saile did not answer her. He did not care about their questions. He walked slowly past the trembling students, heading deeper into the ancient tomb.
"Get up," Saile said coldly over his shoulder. "You are still walking in front."
