My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly

Chapter 3 - 2% Sync Rate,The Silver Inquisitors

Avery groaned softly, shifting against Saile’s chest. Her small hands gripped his patched tunic tightly.

Saile let out a long, shaky breath. He sat in the wet sand of Orali, holding his sister close.

The ocean was quiet now. The boiling black water had returned to a normal, peaceful blue.

The monstrous Leviathan was dead, but the village was completely ruined. Thick wooden beams were snapped like dry twigs. Thatched roofs were blown miles away by the sonic booms. Crushed carts of merchant litter littered the dirt square.

People were slowly crawling out from under the heavy rubble, coughing and crying. They were alive. They had survived the monster.

Saile felt incredible. His broken ribs were healed completely, and his muscles felt tight and packed with explosive power. Being Level 10 felt like living in a completely different world.

But a glowing golden screen hovered directly in front of his eyes. The words pulsed with a soft, threatening red light.

[Synchronization Rate: 2%]

[Warning: At 100%, Host soul will be overwritten.]

Saile frowned. He blinked, trying to make the floating text disappear, but it stayed right there in his vision.

"What does overwritten mean?" Saile whispered under his breath.

A deep, mocking laugh resonated inside his head. It was a cold, ancient sound that made the hairs on Saile’s arms stand up straight.

"It means exactly what it says, boy," Naicul drawled. The ancient God sounded incredibly boastful. "Did you really think my EX-Rank power came for free? I am a God, not a charity."

Saile’s stomach dropped. The heat in his veins suddenly felt like freezing ice.

"You told me the price was that your soul would grow stronger. You didn’t say anything about killing me."

"I said I wanted your body," Naicul corrected him smoothly. "And I never lie. Every single time you draw on my dark mana, our souls merge just a little bit more. Every time you use that Endless Devourer talent to absorb a monster, I get a tighter grip on your mind. Two percent is just the beginning."

Saile stared at the red warning text. "And what happens at one hundred percent?"

"At one hundred percent, you cease to exist," Naicul said cheerfully. "Your memories, your personality, your consciousness... gone. Wiped completely clean. And I get to walk this world in your body permanently. It is a very simple transaction."

Saile clenched his fists. His fingernails dug hard into his palms. "You tricked me."

"I offered you a deal to save your sister, and you took it," Naicul snapped back. His voice grew heavy and dark, pressing against the inside of Saile’s skull. "Do not play the victim. You have the power of an EX-Rank anomaly now. You can kill monsters. You can grow endlessly. But if you want to keep your mind, you better learn to control it. Because the next time you almost die, I will take the wheel. And I will not give it back easily."

Saile swallowed hard. He looked down at Avery. She was safe. She was breathing. That was all that mattered.

He had a ticking clock on his life now, but he would figure it out. He would find a way to cage the God inside him.

"Saile?" Avery whispered. She rubbed her brown eyes, looking around at the shattered village. "Is the monster gone?"

"It is gone," Saile said softly. He helped her stand up, brushing the wet sand from her knees. "We are safe now."

But before Avery could smile, the air pressure in the village suddenly changed.

It was not the freezing, crushing weight of the Leviathan. This felt entirely different.

The temperature spiked. A wave of dry, suffocating heat washed over the ruined docks. It felt like standing directly in front of an open oven.

"Well," Naicul muttered, sounding deeply annoyed. "Look at what the dark mana dragged in. You better get ready to run, boy."

Saile looked down the main dirt road of Orali. The dust was clearing.

Three figures were walking slowly toward the village square. They wore pristine, spotless white cloaks over shining silver armor. The armor caught the sunlight, blindingly bright. Each of them carried a long, straight sword strapped to their waist.

They did not look at the ruined houses or the crying villagers. They looked completely bored.

They were Holy Inquisitors of the Church.

Saile’s breath hitched because Inquisitors only showed up for two reasons: to collect heavy taxes, or to hunt down Heretics. And right now, the entire beach smelled like dark, corrupted magic.

The villagers of Orali immediately dropped to their knees. Even the people bleeding from the rubble rushed to bow their heads to the dirt. You did not stand in the presence of the Church.

"Get down," Saile hissed. He pulled Avery to the sand, kneeling beside her and keeping his head lowered.

The three Inquisitors stopped in the center of the ruined square. The leader was a tall, sharp-faced man with cold blue eyes. He boasted a powerful A-Rank Talent. Saile could literally see the thick, golden holy mana rolling off the man’s shoulders like hot steam.

The Inquisitor looked down at the mud on his clean silver boots. He scoffed in absolute disgust.

"What a miserable pile of trash," the tall Inquisitor said. His voice was calm, but it carried across the entire square. "We tracked a massive surge of dark magic to this location. We expected a demon. Instead, we find a broken slum."

He kicked a piece of shattered wood out of his way. It hit a kneeling fisherman in the shoulder, but the man did not dare make a sound.

"Speak," the Inquisitor demanded. "Where is the beast?"

An old village elder, shaking violently, raised his head just an inch. "M-My Lord... a Leviathan attacked us. It destroyed the docks. But then... then there was a black light. And the beast just vanished."

The Inquisitor’s eyes narrowed. "Vanished? Do not lie to me, peasant. Monsters do not just vanish. Someone used Heretic magic here. Someone used the dark arts."

The Inquisitor raised his hand. A whip made of pure, crackling golden light materialized in his grip. It sparked with A-Rank holy energy.

Without warning, he lashed out, aiming the glowing weapon directly at the old elder’s face.

Saile did not even think. He pushed off his back foot, launching forward with incredible Level 10 speed. He chained a quick sprint into a forward shoulder roll, sliding across the dirt right in front of the elder.

Saile raised his left arm, taking the brutal hit himself.

Crack!

The holy whip slashed across his forearm. It burned his skin like fire, but his newly leveled stats absorbed the worst of the impact. The ground trembled slightly as Saile grunted, planting his feet firmly to stop himself from being pushed back.

"Grandpa!" a young boy yelled, pulling the old man away from the danger.

Saile felt his blood turn into hot fire. His pacifism was already completely shattered. Seeing the arrogant Inquisitor try to maim an innocent old man made his muscles twitch with anger.

"Look at them," Naicul whispered darkly in Saile’s mind. "They worship the traitors who sealed me. They act like gods, but they are just arrogant bullies. Let me out, Saile. Let me rip them apart. I will show them what a real God can do."

"No," Saile replied angrily in his head. "I am not giving you another percent of my soul."

"I will ask one last time," the tall Inquisitor announced, raising the glowing whip again. He glared at Saile. "The dark mana in this town reeks. Hand over the Heretic responsible for slaying the beast. If you do not point them out in three seconds, we will burn this entire village to the ground to cleanse the corruption."

The other two Inquisitors drew their silver swords. The heavy blades hummed with deadly light. They were absolutely serious. They would slaughter everyone in Orali just to make sure the dark magic was gone.

Avery gripped Saile’s pant leg, crying quietly into his sleeve. "Saile, what do we do?"

Saile looked at the glowing golden warning screen still lingering in the corner of his vision.

[Warning: At 100%, Host soul will be overwritten.]

He looked at his crying sister. He looked at the bleeding villagers.

He was Level 10 now. He was much stronger, much faster. But these Inquisitors were easily Level 30. They had A-Rank Talents. They had years of real combat training. If he fought them, he would lose, but if he did nothing, Avery would burn.

Saile gently peeled Avery’s hands off his clothing. "Stay here. Keep your head down."

"Saile, no," she begged.

He did not listen. He stood up straight. His knees did not shake. His heart beat with a steady, furious rhythm.

He stepped out from the crowd of cowering villagers and walked directly into the center of the ruined square. He stood completely unarmed, facing the three heavily armored Inquisitors.

"Leave them alone," Saile said loudly.

The tall Inquisitor lowered his glowing whip. He looked at Saile, his cold blue eyes scanning the skinny, tattered seventeen-year-old boy. He burst into a loud, mocking laugh.

"You?" the Inquisitor sneered. "A weak, unawakened peasant? You are the Heretic?"

Saile did not blink. He tightened his fists.

"I am the one you are looking for."
