My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 34: C-Rank Thugs, The Lawless DesertThe silver magic warped tightly around Saile’s body, pulling him through a freezing, blinding void.
He felt a heavy, disorienting pull in his stomach as the teleportation spell ripped him away from the collapsing underwater ruins. Then, the freezing cold of the deep ocean vanished completely.
A suffocating wall of dry, blistering heat slammed directly into his chest. The silver portal spat him out aggressively, vanishing into thin air with a sharp, magical crack.
Saile hit the ground feet-first. His heavy boots skidded across a thick layer of gritty, golden sand.
Saile stood up slowly, pulling his dark stealth cloak much tighter around his shoulders. He pulled his hood down slightly to cover his face, squinting against the blinding glare of a harsh, unforgiving sun.
He was no longer drowning under the sea.
Before him stretched the infamous Lawless Territories.
It was a sprawling, chaotic desert city carved directly into the side of a massive, jagged canyon. Crooked sandstone buildings were stacked precariously on top of each other, looking like a mountain of dirty, uneven blocks.
Thick black smoke billowed upward from dozens of rusted iron chimneys. The dry air smelled strongly of cheap alcohol, burning coal, and dried blood.
"Welcome to the Badlands," Naicul sneered in his mind.
The ancient God sounded highly amused by the gritty scenery.
"A perfect paradise for murderers, thieves, and exiled trash," Naicul continued, his voice echoing with dark approval.
"It’s perfect," Saile replied softly.
He truly meant it. There were no pristine white marble cathedrals here. There were no golden statues of the false Immortal Saints polluting the streets.
The Holy Church had absolutely zero power in this endless, scorched desert.
It was the ultimate hiding spot for a hunted anomaly. He could grind his levels in total peace, grow monstrously strong, and eventually tear down the Pope’s empire to save Avery.
Thinking of his little sister made a familiar, painful ache settle directly into his chest. He pushed the emotion down, locking it away behind his cold, calculating focus.
Saile walked out of the sandy dunes and stepped onto the crowded, unpaved streets of the desert city.
He kept his head down, blending perfectly into the heavy shadows of the ragged canvas awnings. The people walking around him were hardened mercenaries, exiled warlords, and heavily scarred criminals.
Most of them carried heavily dented weapons and wore mismatched scraps of
leather armor. They glared at each other with open, casual murderous intent.
No one paid any attention to the skinny teenager hidden beneath a dirty black cloak.
Saile’s EX-Rank aura was completely suppressed. To the naked eye, he looked like a weak, easy target wandering through a predator’s den.
He walked for twenty minutes, ignoring the merchants shouting over cages of wild desert beasts. He turned down a narrow, sun-baked alleyway to avoid a loud, violent brawl spilling out of a local tavern.
It was a tactical mistake, but not for him.
"Hold it right there, little rat," a rough, grating voice growled.
Saile stopped walking. He didn’t turn around immediately.
Three large, heavily muscled men stepped out from the deep shadows in front of him. They blocked the narrow exit of the alley completely.
Two more men dropped down loudly from the sandstone rooftops behind him, cutting
off his only path of retreat.
They were a local street gang, covered in ugly black tattoos and cheap, rusted chainmail.
The leader of the thugs, a bald man with a jagged scar across his throat, stepped forward. He held a heavy iron crowbar, tapping it rhythmically against his open palm.
"That’s a very nice cloak you have there," the leader sneered, spitting a glob of dark tobacco onto the sand. "And that storage ring on your finger looks pretty heavy. Hand them over. Now."
To prove his point, the bald leader violently flared his magical aura.
A weak, flickering orange flame ignited completely around the rusted crowbar. The System instantly scanned the thug, projecting a small golden screen directly
into Saile’s vision.
[Target: Desert Thug (Level 18)]
[Talent: C-Rank - Minor Flame]
Saile just stared blankly at the floating golden text.
A few short weeks ago, a Level 18 C-Rank talent would have terrified him. He would have run for his life to protect Avery from a man like this.
Now? It was just completely pathetic.
"Are you deaf, kid?" another thug yelled angrily.
The man pulled out a pair of jagged, rusted daggers and pointed them at Saile’s back.
"Strip the gear or we’ll peel your skin off right here!" the dagger-wielding thug threatened.
"Do you want me to handle this?" Naicul asked, his ancient voice dripping with thick, mocking sarcasm. "These mighty warriors seem quite dangerous."
"I think I’ll manage," Saile replied mentally.
He didn’t even reach for the Calamity Fang resting heavily across his back. Drawing a Mythic-tier weapon against these pathetic weaklings was an absolute insult to the blade.
Instead, Saile let out a soft sigh and took a single step forward.
"Wrong choice, rat!" the bald leader roared.
The thug swung the flaming crowbar directly at Saile’s skull. It was a slow, painfully predictable, horizontal strike.
Saile didn’t activate a single magic skill. He simply relied entirely on his raw Level 45 Platinum-Tier physical stats.
He completely vanished from the thugs’ line of sight.
With a burst of explosive, blinding speed, Saile ducked cleanly under the flaming weapon. He stepped firmly into the leader’s guard, twisting his hips to generate massive, kinetic power.
Saile launched a heavy, blindingly fast right jab directly into the center of the man’s chest.
Boom!
The visceral impact sounded exactly like a cannon firing in the narrow alleyway. A visible ring of displaced air exploded violently outward from Saile’s bare knuckles.
The thug’s ribcage shattered completely with a sickening, wet crunch.
The massive force lifted the bald man entirely off his feet. He was launched backward through the air like a broken, weightless ragdoll.
He crashed violently through a solid wooden door thirty feet away, falling instantly unconscious in a pile of splintered wood.
The narrow alley went dead silent.
The remaining four thugs froze in pure, unadulterated terror. They stared at the massive hole in the door, their eyes wide with absolute disbelief.
"Who’s next?" Saile asked, his voice cold and terrifyingly flat.
"Kill him!" the dagger-wielding thug screamed, charging forward in a blind, sweating panic.
The other three thugs rushed in right behind him, frantically activating their weak C-Rank magics. Small bursts of compressed wind and sharp clumps of flying rock shot directly toward Saile’s face.
Saile casually swatted the flying rocks away with the back of his bare hand. His Platinum-Tier bones were far too dense to be scratched by such incredibly weak magic.
As the dagger thug lunged forward, Saile dropped smoothly into a low crouch.
He planted his hands on the dusty ground and whipped his right leg around in a devastating, high-speed spin sweep. His heavy boot slammed violently into the thug’s shins.
Crack!
The thug’s legs snapped instantly under the raw pressure. The man shrieked in agony, flipping upside down from the sheer, overwhelming momentum of the leg sweep.
Before the thug could even hit the ground, Saile popped back up to his feet. He chained his acrobatic movement perfectly.
He drove a vicious, rising left uppercut directly under the falling man’s chin.
Smack!
The brutal impact generated a sharp, localized sonic boom.
The thug was launched straight up into the air, bouncing heavily off the brick wall before crashing into a pile of dirty wooden crates.
Two thugs left.
They stopped dead in their tracks, their boots skidding in the sand. The weak magic completely faded from their trembling hands.
They looked at the skinny teenager standing casually in the dust. They finally realized they had cornered a true, breathing monster in this alley.
"Please!" one of them begged, instantly dropping to his knees. "We didn’t know!Have mercy on us!"
"Mercy is for the Holy Church," Saile said coldly.
He lunged forward, moving like a violent blur of black lightning. He closed the remaining distance in a single, explosive heartbeat.
He delivered two rapid, impossibly heavy jabs. His fists slammed into their unprotected stomachs with ground-trembling force.
The physical shockwaves rippled entirely through their bodies, blowing the breath completely out of their lungs.
Both thugs collapsed immediately to the dirt, coughing up saliva and gasping desperately for air.
The entire fight was over in less than ten seconds.
Saile stood calmly in the center of the ruined alleyway. He didn’t even have a single speck of dust on his black cloak. His breathing was perfectly slow, calm, and steady.
Golden System screens popped up quietly in his vision.
[Targets Defeated: Desert Thugs x5]
[Minor EXP Gained.]
The experience points were barely a drop in the ocean for his massive Level 45 core. He didn’t care at all. He wasn’t doing this for the stats.
He looked down at his own fists, flexing his pale fingers slowly.
The raw physical power thrumming purely through his veins was absolutely intoxicating. He had just obliterated five grown men without using a single drop of dark mana.
He didn’t use his Mythic weapon. He didn’t use a single magic skill. He just used his raw, physical strength.
"You are beginning to understand, kid," Naicul whispered, a dark, approving purr
vibrating in his ancient voice. "The Platinum Tier is where mortals stop being prey."
"Yeah," Saile agreed softly.
He was no longer the weak, bleeding orphan who had run away from the A-Rank Inquisitors in his ruined village. He was no longer the terrified boy who had hidden in the shadows from the Executor in Valerius.
Level 45 made him a genuine, terrifying threat in this harsh world.
Saile pulled his black hood slightly further down over his eyes. He stepped cleanly over the groaning bodies of the defeated thugs and walked out of the dark alley.
The massive, lawless desert city awaited him. He needed pure gold, high-tier monster cores, and rare Skill Shards to continue his endless growth.
He was going to tear this city apart, one piece at a time.
