My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 47: Vanguard Leap, The Canyon Choke PointThe blaring war horns echoed endlessly through the dark subterranean tunnels of the Heretic bunker.
Saile walked calmly up the massive stone steps leading to the high fortress walls. His heavy combat boots struck the ancient rock with completely steady, rhythmic thuds.
Lady Vesper, Mrog, and Alis rushed quickly behind him. They were shouting rapid, desperate orders to the five thousand Remnant soldiers.
The fresh armor from the lower forges was already being distributed in the main courtyard. It was heavy, jagged, and forged entirely from Level 40 Sand Wyrm scales. But even with the upgraded gear, the Heretic army looked incredibly small.
Five thousand starving rebels were about to face the absolute ruling power of the desert.
Saile reached the top of the ramparts. He stepped out into the blinding, punishing desert sun.
He looked down at the massive, narrow canyon that served as the only entrance to
their hidden bunker. The ground was already shaking violently beneath his feet.
A thick, choking cloud of yellow dust completely blocked out the eastern horizon.
Then, the enemy finally appeared.
Warlord Neleak’s army poured into the narrow desert canyon like a plague of metal locusts. There were twenty thousand hardened mercenaries, desert bandits, and exiled knights.
They wore heavy steel armor that gleamed brightly in the harsh light. They carried massive shields, long spears, and brutally sharp swords. The sheer noise of twenty thousand men marching in unison created a deafening, ground-trembling rumble.
The canyon choke point was incredibly narrow. It forced the massive army to bunch tightly together between the high, jagged rock walls.
It was a tactical nightmare for a normal siege. But Warlord Neleak did not care about heavy casualties. He had the overwhelming, absolute numbers to completely bury the Remnants in bodies.
"Siege weapons!" Mrog roared loudly from the wall, pointing a thick finger into the dust.
Heavy, wooden catapults rolled forward from the back of the enemy lines. They were loaded with massive rock boulders glowing with highly volatile, red fire magic.
The catapults fired with loud, violent snapping sounds.
Three giant, flaming boulders sailed perfectly through the dry air. They crashed
directly into the high stone walls of the Remnant fortress.
Boom!
The violent explosions rocked the entire structure. A deafening sonic boom cracked through the narrow canyon.
Chunks of flaming rock and shattered stone flew wildly into the air. Dozens of Remnant soldiers were thrown backward from the ramparts. They screamed in pure agony as the magical fire burned their new armor.
Saile did not flinch. He stood completely still right on the absolute edge of the wall. His dark cloak whipped violently around his legs in the hot, rushing wind.
His plain brown eyes were completely cold. He looked down at the massive army with absolutely zero human empathy.
"They brought a lot of food," Naicul whispered in his mind. The ancient God’s
voice was vibrating with pure, unadulterated hunger.
"Yes," Saile replied mentally. "And they packed themselves tightly into a single, narrow hallway for us. It is incredibly generous of them."
More flaming boulders crashed heavily against the fortress walls. The ancient stone trembled dangerously.
"Sovereign!" Lady Vesper yelled over the loud, ringing explosions. "You must step back!"
She ran up beside him, holding her glowing purple hands up to block the sharp, flying debris.
"You are the absolute heart of our faction now," Vesper pleaded urgently. "Lead us from the back! Command the archers to fire! If you fall today, the entire Heretic army falls with you!"
Saile looked at her. He didn’t say a single word.
He completely ignored conventional military tactics. He wasn’t a noble general playing a safe game of chess. He was a Transcendent-Tier monster hosting a Fallen God.
He needed the massive EXP to hit the next threshold. He needed the Endless Devourer to feast.
Saile stepped right up to the very edge of the eighty-foot drop.
"Sovereign, wait!" Mrog shouted, reaching a massive hand out to grab his shoulder.
It was entirely too late.
Saile stepped completely off the high stone wall.
He leaped down alone. He plummeted straight toward the massive, charging enemy vanguard.
The hot wind shrieked violently in his ears as he fell. The heavy gravity pulled him down like a dropped anvil. He kept his body perfectly straight, his plain brown eyes locked perfectly on the sea of steel below him.
The enemy soldiers at the absolute front of the line looked up.
Their jaws dropped wide open in pure, unadulterated panic. They could not believe a single boy was jumping directly into a deadly formation of twenty thousand men.
Saile hit the ground with massive, explosive force.
He executed a flawless, tight shoulder roll recovery to instantly absorb the massive eighty-foot drop. The sheer kinetic force of his Diamond-Tier body completely shattered the solid rock beneath the desert sand.
Boom!
A visible, ground-tearing shockwave blasted outward from his landing spot.
The front line of the vanguard was violently blown backward. Dozens of heavily armored men were thrown completely off their feet. They crashed hard into their own allies, shattering their heavy wooden shields.
Saile popped right up from his roll. He was completely surrounded by a thick, suffocating sea of hostile steel.
An enemy frontline captain charged forward instantly. The massive brute swung a heavy, rusted battleaxe directly at Saile’s unprotected head.
Saile didn’t even blink. He didn’t step back.
He ducked cleanly under the lethal, horizontal swing. He stepped firmly into the
captain’s guard and reached out with his bare left hand.
He grabbed the screaming man directly by the throat.
He squeezed his fingers with raw, Diamond-Tier physical strength into his throat.
Crack!
The captain’s thick windpipe collapsed completely under the brutal pressure. Dark blood gushed out instantly from the man’s mouth and neck.
Saile violently ripped the dying man forward, using his heavy steel body as a temporary human shield.
Three enemy spears thrust forward from the second rank. They buried themselves deeply into their own captain’s back with sickening, wet thuds.
Before the spearmen could pull their weapons out, Saile dropped low. He whipped his right leg around in a blistering spin sweep.
His heavy combat boot slammed directly into the nearest spearman’s knee.
Snap!
The bone broke completely backward. As the soldier screamed and fell, Saile popped back up to his feet. He drove a brutal, rising uppercut straight under the falling man’s chin.
Smack!
A localized sonic boom cracked loudly in the tight space. The sheer physical force completely shattered the soldier’s skull inside his heavy iron helmet. The man was launched straight up into the air, entirely dead.
Saile finally reached smoothly over his shoulder.
He drew the Calamity Fang with a sharp, ringing clash of heavy metal.
The pitch-black odachi caught the harsh desert sunlight. It looked exactly like a completely dead, empty void in his hands.
Saile tightened his grip on the long hilt. Forcefully compressing his raw, freezing EX-Rank aura. He pushed the heavy dark magic entirely into the razor-thin cutting edge of the blade.
A highly condensed, glowing line of purple lightning settled securely on the sharp metal. It hissed angrily, completely hungry for fresh blood.
"Kill him!" an enemy commander screamed from the back of the tightly packed canyon. "He is entirely alone! Crush the rat!"
Thousands of soldiers roared in unified anger. The massive vanguard surged forward like a terrifying tidal wave of rusted iron and heavy armor.
They charged him from every single direction. The narrow walls of the canyon
completely blocked the sun, casting long, dark shadows over the incoming horde.
There was completely no escape.
Saile slowly lowered his stance. He pointed the glowing tip of the Calamity Fang directly at the approaching wave of death.
A terrifying, completely ruthless smile slowly spread across his face.
"Let the harvest begin," Saile whispered softly.
