My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly

Chapter 7: Weapon Fragment,The Level 12 Alpha

The Blackwood Forest was indeed very dark, damp, and silent.

The massive trees grew so close together that their thick black branches blocked out the sun. The air smelled like wet dirt and rotting leaves.

Saile walked through the heavy shadows slowly, his boots crunching softly against the dead grass.

His chest ached, but not from physical pain. His body was perfectly healed.

The ache came from a deep, heavy guilt.

He missed Avery, missed her bright smile and her small hands, but he knew leaving her behind in Orali was the only way to protect her.

He had a ticking clock inside his head.

The golden System screen in his mind reminded him constantly.

[Current Sync Rate: 5%.]

Five percent of his soul was already gone.

A cold, empty numbness sat quietly in the back of his mind.

If he wanted to survive, he had to get stronger.

He had to level up his EX-Rank Talent fast enough to cage the ancient God permanently.

"Are you going to cry all day, or are we going to hunt?" Naicul drawled tiredly in Saile’s mind.

The God sounded incredibly bored.

"If I have to listen to your sad, pathetic thoughts for one more mile, I might just take over your body and find some real entertainment."

"Shut up," Saile muttered out loud.

He gripped the heavy, rusted harpoon tightly in his right hand.

"I am focusing. I just need to find the right target."

"You do not find the target in this forest, boy," Naicul said coldly.

"The target finds you."

A low, vibrating growl came through the dark trees.

The ground trembled slightly beneath Saile’s boots.

Saile then stopped moving and lowered his stance.

Three massive beings stepped slowly out of the thick bush.

They were Forest Stalkers also.

They looked like giant, mutated wolves, easily the size of grown horses. Thick, jagged bone plates covered their backs and shoulders.

Their yellow eyes locked onto Saile with pure hunger.

Saile took a deep breath.

He did not draw on the dark EX-Rank mana.

He refused to let the Sync Rate rise today.

Instead, he relied purely on his raw Level 10 physical stats.

The first wolf charged.

It moved very fast, its heavy paws tearing up the dirt.

It opened its jaws, aiming straight for Saile’s throat.

Saile did not panic.

With a sudden burst of speed, he pushed off the ground and launched into a high backflip.

His body moved through the air.

As he flipped upside down, his heel lashed out, catching the massive attacker right under the chin.

Boom!

The air cracked with a loud sonic boom.

A visible shockwave exploded from the brutal impact, sending the heavy beast flying backward.

The wolf crashed hard into a tree trunk, snapping the thick wood in half.

"Sloppy," Naicul reacted immediately.

"You are just throwing your body around like a drunken clown. A backflip leaves you completely exposed in the air. A real warrior does not punch thick bone plates with bare hands."

"It worked, did it not?" Saile grunted, landing safely on his feet.

"You rely too much on your raw stats," the ancient God scolded harshly.

"Your Level 10 strength is a support. What happens when you fight something faster than you? What happens when you fight a Level 30 monster again? They will rip your legs off before you even finish your little flip. Stop dancing and start fighting. Use the weapon in your hand!"

The second wolf jumped from the right side.

It swiped a massive, razor-sharp claw toward Saile’s ribs.

Saile dropped low.

He dropped his hands in the dirt and whipped his leg around in a rapid spin sweep.

His boot slammed hard into the wolf’s front legs, breaking its fierce charge.

The beast stumbled, its chin hitting the dirt.

Saile immediately twisted his hips and threw a brutal right uppercut.

His fist landed cleanly on the side of the wolf’s head.

The physical force lifted the giant monster completely off the ground.

"Still using your fists!" Naicul roared angrily.

"Grip the harpoon with both hands! Shift your weight! Swing it like a blade, you stubborn idiot!"

The third wolf attacked.

This one was much larger than the other two.

It was the alpha of the pack.

A red System screen flashed quickly above its head.

[Target: Forest Stalker (Level 12).]

The Level 12 beast roared.

The sound was so loud it made the wind shriek through the trees.

The ground trembled violently as the alpha charged.

It leaped high into the air, bringing its heavy bone plates down to crush Saile flat.

Saile finally listened to the God.

He wrapped both hands tightly around the wooden handle of the rusted harpoon.

He did not dodge backward.

Instead, he dashed forward, sliding under the leaping monster with a quick, tight shoulder-roll recovery.

He popped back up onto his feet directly behind the beast.

"Now!" Naicul barked.

"Strike the joint!"

Saile firmly planted his back foot.

He shifted his weight exactly how Naicul instructed.

He swung the rusted harpoon not like a spear, but like a heavy sword.

The rusted iron blade cut cleanly through the air.

Siaun!

The heavy iron slammed perfectly into the weak gap between the wolf’s bone plates.

The beast screamed in sharp pain.

It turned around wildly, snapping its jaws at Saile’s face.

Saile took a step back, firing two quick, rapid jabs with his left fist to keep the snapping jaws away.

He ducked under a wild claw swipe.

"Do not retreat!" Naicul commanded.

"Press the advantage! Force the enemy to break!"

Saile gritted his teeth and pushed forward aggressively.

He used a fast leg-sweep to force the giant wolf to step uncalculatedly to the side, and the beast lost its balance for just a fraction of a second.

That was all Saile needed.

With a massive burst of Level 10 speed, Saile dashed toward a thick black oak tree.

He planted his boot firmly against the rough bark.

He executed a flawless wall run, running three quick steps straight up the trunk of the tree to gain height.

He launched himself off the wood, diving backward through the air.

"Finish it!" Naicul yelled.

Saile spun his body into a rapid aerial twist kick.

The spinning motion generated incredible, terrifying momentum.

Gripping the rusted harpoon tightly with both hands, he brought it down with his entire might.

Boom!

The rusted iron pierced directly through the top of the wolf’s skull.

A massive, circular shockwave exploded outward from the brutal impact.

The violent force ripped the dead leaves right off the surrounding trees.

The wind pitched loudly as the beast landed hard on the dirt floor.

The ground trembled one last time, and then the forest went completely silent.

Saile pulled the harpoon out.

He stood over the dead beast, breathing heavily, with sweat dripping down his forehead.

His muscles burned with a dull ache, but he felt a strange sense of pride.

He had not used a single drop of dark mana.

He had fought cleanly.

He had used real technique.

"Better," Naicul said softly in his mind.

The ancient God actually sounded slightly impressed.

"Your footwork is still complete garbage, and you hold the weapon like a farmer holding a shovel, but... your timing was acceptable. We can work with that."

"Thank you," Saile said, panting as he wiped the sweat from his eyes.

"Do not thank me, boy," Naicul said coldly.

"I am not teaching you to be nice. I am teaching you so my host body does not get ripped to shreds by wild dogs. Now, claim your reward."

Saile nodded.

He stepped forward and placed his bare hand directly onto the massive body of the dead Level 12 Forest Stalker.

A hot, buzzing energy rushed through Saile’s arm.

The beast’s body began to dissolve rapidly. It melted away into glowing blue and gold orbs of light.

The beautiful orbs floated up into the air and rushed directly into Saile’s chest.

Golden System screens popped up in front of his eyes.

[EX-Rank Talent: Endless Devourer Activated.]

[You have slain: Forest Stalker (Level 12).]

[EXP Gained: 300 EXP.]

The warm energy flooded his veins, instantly soothing his tired, burning muscles.

It was an incredibly addictive feeling.

He could feel his raw power growing inch by inch.

He did not level up this time, but he knew he was getting closer.

Then another item dropped from the fading light of the beast.

It was a jagged, heavy piece of dark gray metal.

It floated gently into Saile’s waiting hand.

[Loot Drop: Weapon Fragment (1/10) acquired.]

"A weapon fragment," Saile said softly.

He turned the cold metal over in his fingers.

It felt incredibly dense and heavy.

"Keep collecting those," Naicul instructed smoothly.

"That rusted piece of trash you are holding right now will snap in half the second you face a real opponent. When you gather enough fragments, the System will forge something that can actually handle our power."

Saile pictured the dark metal vanishing.

It instantly melted into golden light, storing itself safely inside his System inventory.

He looked down at his rusty harpoon.

He knew Naicul was completely right.

The weapon was already chipped and bent from hitting the thick bone plates.

He needed better gear, and he needed it fast.

"Are we done resting?" Naicul asked sarcastically.

"Because I can sense at least twenty more monsters hiding in the dark ahead of us."

Saile tightened his grip on the wooden handle.

He looked deep into the terrifying shadows of the Blackwood Forest.

He did not feel afraid anymore.

He just felt determined.

He was going to hunt every single beast in this forest.

He was going to embrace this brutal grind until his body was strong enough to rival the Saints.

"We are not resting," Saile said firmly.

He stepped forward, walking deeper into the dark woods.

"We are just getting started."

"Good," Naicul laughed darkly.

"Then let us go paint the trees red."
