Her sovereign eyes travelled over his white clothes, and the divine calm within them trembled before longing surfaced; quiet, disciplined, and painfully clear through their bond.
She wanted him near her:
She wanted the tenderness of him he gave to her soul returned to her, even briefly; Sienna wanted proof that the night had changed more than their souls. Perhaps she simply wanted him to cross the hall and look at her without distance.
Phei’s chest tightened as Sienna lowered her gaze toward her cup before anyone else could understand.
Dravenna understood.
Naturally.
Melissa saw Dravenna a moment later before their history entered her voice, carrying irritation, camaraderie and arch-nemesis, old affection, and enough threatened violence to season the entire table.
"Bitch!"
Dravenna’s smile bloomed. "Little chaos enabler."
Phei slowed but Maddie’s eyes lit up; breakfast had discovered entertainment.
Melissa inspected Dravenna’s grey sports top, exposed stomach, open hoodie, and relaxed trousers with growing suspicion.
"Why are you dressed like that?"
Dravenna glanced down at herself. "Because I look excellent."
"You plan to join the kids."
"What gave it away? The clothes, the shoes, or my physical presence at breakfast?"
"You were never invited."
Dravenna spread her hands dramatically. Her hoodie opened wider, displaying more of her toned waist. "What? You thought everyone would go out and leave me here bored?"
"They certainly did," Roxanne said from the table.
Phei glanced between them; the familiarity in Roxanne’s voice revealed an old acquaintance immediately.
’Of course they know each other.’
Every woman in his life seemed connected through an old camaraderie, private grievance, shared secret, threatened murder, or expensive bottle hurled during a disagreement. His romantic circle had developed enough hidden history to require its own archive.
Dravenna turned her jade eyes toward Roxanne. "If the mother-in-law can join, why should the girlfriend remain behind?"
The table froze and revery gaze moved toward Phei who immediately embraced innocence with magnificent commitment:
A quiet hum left him as he continued walking toward the table, studying the breakfast dishes as though nothing more controversial than fruit arrangements had been announced.
Maddie stared after him. "Do not walk away like she did not just call herself your girlfriend."
"I heard her."
"And?"
"I am hungry."
Yuki raised her brows. "An elegant defence."
Patricia’s lips curved. "A shameless retreat executed with admirable confidence."
Nastya nodded. "Tactically sound."
Maya covered her smile as Eira doubled over above Phei’s shoulder, kicking her tiny feet through the air in silent delight.
Cassiopeia could see the fairy as well. The faint curve of her mouth betrayed her enjoyment.
Eira wiped an imaginary tear from her eye. "Master, your innocence is appalling. I have watched criminals appear less guilty while holding the weapon."
Phei offered no reaction; encouraging Eira would only lengthen his execution.
Melissa’s attention remained locked upon Dravenna.
"Girlfriend?"
Dravenna leaned back, thoroughly pleased with herself. "Yes."
"Since when?"
"Oh, Melissa, spare us the theatre. You know he is my mate."
Melissa’s eyes widened:
"You certainly do not mean..."
"Exactly that."
Understanding arrived and outrage followed immediately.
Melissa stared at Dravenna for one suspended heartbeat, then laughed without warmth.
"Shameless bitch."
Dravenna’s smile sharpened. "Look who is talking; a pot calling a kettle black!"
Roxanne lowered her cup to enjoy the spectacle properly, Maddie on the other hand appeared ready to applaud while Amber looked between them with the delighted horror of someone discovering breakfast had become premium entertainment.
Victoria stared at her mother, then at Dravenna, and quietly decided several questions deserved safer surroundings.
Phei concluded that movement remained his finest defence; he crossed to Ashford Madam first. The Goddess regarded him with serene authority, though pleasure warmed her eyes as he approached.
Phei bent, touched her cheek gently, and kissed her good morning.
Their kiss carried tenderness, reverence, and enough lingering intimacy to announce their closeness across the entire table.
Her smile deepened when he withdrew:
"Elusive boy."
"I had a crowded morning."
Her gaze drifted briefly toward Melissa and Delilah.
"Clearly."
Delilah nearly swallowed her own soul.
Phei moved to Elena next.
She lifted her chin with pride, preserving her composure despite the expectation glowing behind her eyes. Phei took her hand and kissed her with ceremonious care, allowing his mouth to remain against hers until warmth began loosening the proud control in her expression.
When he drew back, Elena’s eyes had darkened.
"You still owe me, honey." she reminded him quietly.
"I remember."
"You had better."
The complaints erupted behind him.
"Excuse me?" Maddie demanded.
Sierra crossed her arms. "Open favouritism before breakfast."
Valentina touched her lips. "Should the rest of us form a queue?"
Catrina looked personally betrayed. "Some of us also possess mouths."
Patricia raised one eyebrow. "That sounded more jealous than necessary."
"It was exactly as jealous as intended."
Patricia sighed. "The standards of public conduct have collapsed before the first course."
Amber tilted her head. "I have registered the unequal treatment."
"That was a complaint," Yuki said.
"It was an observation."
Maya spoke softly. "I had no intention of joining the complaint, but continued silence may create the inaccurate impression that I do not also want one."
Phei looked at her; pink entered Maya’s face.
"I was being administratively clear."
Sierra smiled lazily. "She wants a kiss."
"I certainly do."
Emily hid her laughter against Lydia’s shoulder.
Victoria remained silent, though the slight narrowing of her eyes suggested she had registered the inequality too.
Delilah muttered, "He is going to become unbearable."
Melissa settled into her chair and reached for her tea. "Become?"
Laughter travelled down the table.
Phei’s gaze returned to Sienna.
She had remained silent.
Her pale hands rested near her cup, framed by deathly green sleeves. She watched the kisses and complaints with divine calm, a convincing mask for everyone outside the bridge joining their souls.
Phei felt the longing beneath it, the restrained ache and the quiet uncertainty hidden within her pride.
She wanted him to cross the last distance. Asking in front of the table would expose too much of the vulnerable girl still living inside the returning goddess.
’I will definitely spare an hour or two for you love, before this night ends.’
Their eyes met.
Phei smiled gently.
Sienna’s violet gaze trembled.
She looked away first.
Dravenna saw everything.
The jade-eyed menace leaned back with quiet satisfaction, storing the moment among her growing collection of future weapons.
Phei reached the head of the long table and pulled out his chair.
"Everyone sit. I’m starving."
Maddie dropped into the nearest seat. "You are always starving."
"I am a growing dragon."
Roxanne looked over the rim of her cup. "Growing into what?"
Eira floated above the table and grinned. "A diplomatic catastrophe with excellent abdominal definition."
Maya coughed into her hand while Cassiopeia’s smile widened.
Phei glanced upward.
Eira waved brightly.
He returned his attention to breakfast and allowed the table to become his latest refuge.
Servants began unveiling silver dishes while complaints about unequal kisses continued around him. Melissa watched Dravenna with murder wrapped in years of companionship. Dravenna lounged in grey athletic clothing, her toned stomach displayed with shameless confidence. Sienna sat beside her in deathly green, silent beneath sovereign violet eyes. Elena pretended her lips carried no lingering warmth, while Maddie, Yuki, and Amber immediately began debating which dish deserved to reach Phei first.
Around them, Maya, Sierra, Emily, Catrina, Valentina, Patricia, Victoria, Nastya, Lydia, Cassiopeia, Roxanne, Melissa, and Delilah filled the long table with beauty, tension, affection, jealousy, and the restless promise of an unforgettable day.
The Empyrean Dining Hall had enjoyed nearly twelve minutes of peace before Phei arrived.
A respectable achievement.
Then Phei Ryujin Tiamat entered dressed in white, surrounded by his women, and peace quietly surrendered its table.
