My Taboo Harem!

Chapter 1178: Sinister Danton’s Plan for Melissa

None of the men spoke.

The cold wind moved between them, carrying the smell of wet stone and distant pine.

Danton’s smile widened as he continued, "That is why you will not allow him to see you in the day you will spent on this mission. You will follow the plans as we already prepared, remain outside every perception and wait until the household is divided. Once the principal threats are drawn away, you will enter, take the women and leave behind enough confusion to delay pursuit. I do not care how many servants, guards or bystanders must disappear to preserve success of this mission within the coming days."

The scarred man nodded. "Understood."

Danton lifted one finger, and six tiny points of golden fire appeared above his palm.

They burned silently, each flame small enough to rest upon a fingernail yet dense enough to make the surrounding cold recoil. The lights moved toward the men and sank beneath their skin one after another, leaving faint golden marks beneath their throats.

"These will conceal you from ordinary detection and allow me to find you wherever you flee with your target," Danton explained, his voice losing its amusement. "They will also burn through your souls if any of you attempt to betray the plan, warn a target or abandon the island."

One of the men swallowed.

The mark beneath his throat brightened in response.

Danton looked at him and smiled until the man lowered his gaze.

For a brief moment, Danton considered using the Shadow Blades of the Romano Family instead.

Their reputation had been built upon impossible assassinations, silent abductions and the careful removal of enemies who believed money could purchase safety. They would have been more efficient than these and far less likely to panic once the operation crossed into real confrontation with Phei.

But the Romano patriarch was notoriously unreasonable when asked for favours, particularly favours involving his best killers.

’Worse, I have just robbed his family.’

Inviting Romano into this conspiracy while their ancestral treasure had been carried away by Void-Djinns would have been arrogant even by Danton’s generous standards.

’There is another complication.’

The Romano girls had spent the day clinging to Phei with enough enthusiasm to offend Danton from a distance. Their behaviour did not prove their father had entered a secret alliance with the Dragon enough to discard his deal with the two families, but it raised the possibility.

A patriarch who permitted his daughters to circle an enemy might be courting influence, purchasing protection or preparing to change sides before the old alliance finally collapsed.

No. Danton would not involve them.

The Romanos were still necessary for awakening their Original Progenitor, and until that purpose had been fulfilled, uncertainty was more useful than open hostility.

The secret would remain between the Maxtons and Heavenchilds.

No third family needed to know which blade had been chosen for Phei’s heart.

Danton gave the six men a slight nod. "Go."

They disappeared without answering.

The golden marks beneath their throats flashed once, their bodies blurring into thin distortions before the night folded over them. Leaves at the forest’s edge trembled as they passed, yet no footsteps followed.

Within moments, even their scents had vanished beneath the cold.

Danton watched the darkness where they had stood and felt no concern for their lives.

They were tools.

Tools were valuable only while completing the work they had been selected to perform.

He had not allowed confidence to make him reckless, however.

Sending them into Phei’s place of residence was merely the opening movement.

The harder task belonged to Danton himself.

He needed to pull the Dragon’s strongest protectors away, stretch Phei’s attention across enough crises that even his growing senses could not hold every thread at once, and make Maya Scarlett choose between restraint and expulsion.

For that, Danton required height.

His body lifted from the precipice.

The next the earth cracked beneath him as he launched into the heavens; he rose like a star hurled backward.

A pillar of golden fire ignited around his body, narrow at first before widening into a blazing tail that cut through the black sky. The forest bent beneath the pressure and ice along the rocks evaporated.

Hell’s Paradise Lake recoiled in broad circular waves as though some immense beast had struck its surface from below.

Danton crossed thousands of metres in a breath.

The city’s tallest towers sank beneath him, their artificial lights gathering into a glittering map while the island spread outward in dark, sovereign immensities. He stopped high above everything, suspended without wings.

Golden flames folded themselves into his body until only a faint crown of fire remained around his shoulders.

The wind came with the fury of high altitude, sharp enough to flay ordinary skin and cold enough to freeze a mortal lung before the first breath finished. It struck Danton’s face, robes and hair, yet his body did not move. The Saint Stage had long since separated him from such harmless inconveniences.

Weather could touch him, but it could no longer command a reaction.

He closed his eyes and allowed his senses to unfold.

The island opened beneath him.

He felt the Endless Forest breathing through roots older than human history, each tree exchanging slow whispers through soil and fungal veins. He heard the lake pressing against its shores, countless waves folding into one another beneath the darkness. He sensed animals hiding in burrows, people moving through illuminated streets, engines humming along distant roads and the faint pulse of formations sleeping beneath Legacy estates.

Nature possessed a sovereignty no family had ever truly conquered.

The forest watched and the wind travelled everywhere and belonged to no one.

Danton drew one deep breath, taking the cold into himself as though drinking from the island’s soul. Golden light moved beneath his skin, following the lines of his veins until his entire body glowed faintly from within. For one immense moment, the night appeared to revolve around him.

Clouds bowed from his position, the winds divided rather than strike his body and the darkness itself carried the impression of a throne beneath his feet.

This was the terror Danton rarely bothered showing.

His power was comparable to a Divine Lord being and might have been restricted by Earth’s Laws, but even the Saint Stage foundation beneath it was enough to make mountains reconsider remaining upright.

He could hear a heartbeat from across the city, smell blood through sealed windows and watch spiritual energy currents moving beneath buildings as clearly as rivers beneath glass. If he wished, his Flames of Beginning could turn the night into dawn and leave half the island praying beneath a sky made of fire.

He did not wish it.

Not yet.

Danton opened his eyes and looked across the distance toward Phei.

The Dragon remained with his entire entourage, surrounded by laughter, women and the bright stupidity of people who believed happiness had become permanent. Even from this height, Danton could see him clearly.

Phei was the centre of his gathered circle as always pulling attention toward himself without appearing to try, every smile deepening someone’s affection and every careless touch fastening another invisible chain around a woman’s heart.

Danton’s mouth curved.

’Phei’s arrogance truly possess no equal.’

He had taken the most important woman in his life, placed her inside a tower full of mortal walls and human servants, then run away with the others as though the world had forgotten how to take things from him.

He had left her behind beneath the illusion of safety, trusting the hotel, its height and his reputation to protect what he loved most.

’How tenderly foolish.’

The world did not spare what men treasured.

It merely waited until they looked elsewhere.

Danton turned his gaze toward Infinity Chaos Hotel.

From this distance, the colossal building should have appeared no larger than a dark needle among the city lights. To Danton, it stood as close and clear as though he floated outside its windows. His vision passed over glass, steel, walls and floors, reading heat, movement and life through the entire tower.

He heard conversations separated by hundreds of rooms, the opening of doors, the quiet steps of attendants and the soft mechanical breath of elevators climbing through the hotel’s spine.

Then his senses found the woman who would become the centre of their entire plane thank to his father’s suggestion; something that could really hurt Phei:

’Melissa.’

She moved inside the hotel unaware that her bastard Saint son was watching her from beyond the city. Her heartbeat reached Danton with perfect clarity, steady and warm beneath the layers of stone and glass.

Beneath it, protected inside her body, another rhythm whispered.

’Small. Unborn. Alive... the purest Dragon only equal to its father.’

Danton’s golden eyes brightened as the truth of his father’s suggestion unfolded completely before him.

Melissa and the child.

Take his mother and father, and Phei would bleed.

"Take Melissa and the unborn life with her, and the wound would become something no healing ability could close."

Danton’s smile deepened until the cold wind itself appeared to shrink from it. "Hello, Mother,"he murmured to the distant woman, his voice too quiet for anyone below to hear.

"I almost feel sorry for you." Golden fire stirred around his fingers.

"You are about to lose a second child to this bastard son of yours."

The flames brightened as the Endless Forest watched from below, the lake held its breath and the city continued glowing in beautiful ignorance.

"Oh, dear Mother."
