Instead of answering with words she reached back, grabbed his hand, and placed it deliberately on her thigh.
Phei understood at once.
He lifted her leg high, changing the angle so he could drive even deeper while still pounding into her without mercy. The new position made every thrust hit harder, the thick head punching against her deepest point while her raised leg trembled in his grip.
"Yes," Sienna cried, the word breaking apart against his name as she clung to him, overwhelmed by everything moving through her at once. "Mark me. Make me your woma..."
Her violet eyes widened faintly, almost startled by what her own heart chose next:
"...your wife for eternity, Phei."
Phei froze for the smallest moment.
The change in his face made Sienna’s chest tighten. All that hunger in his eyes softened at once, replaced by naked disbelief and something far warmer, almost painfully grateful. A Goddess had just willingly chose to become his, not merely his woman, but his wife, and for once the shameless Young Dragon seemed to have forgotten how to speak.
Sienna realized what she had said at almost the same time.
’Wife?!’
Her cheeks burned.
She had meant to say woman, at least, she thought she had, yet when Phei looked at her like that, eyes shining with a happiness he seemed almost unable to believe belonged to him, she found she did not want to correct herself.
Phei leaned over her and pressed a long, soft kiss to the nape of her neck, the tenderness of it almost reverent... he had stared at her as though he needed another second to understand that he had truly heard it, and Sienna saw the exact moment the meaning reached him.
His eyes softened until all that fierce hunger became almost unbearably tender, their brightness suddenly glassy beneath the dim light.
She had expected triumph from him, perhaps one of those shameless smiles and a teasing remark about finally surrendering.
Instead, Phei looked almost shaken:
"Sienna..."
Her own expression changed, well, she had surprised herself too.
The word had simply escaped.
Wife.
Somewhere beneath the nervousness, the desire and everything she had spent so long trying to put into careful sentences, that was apparently what her heart had decided she wanted to be.
Sienna swallowed, her cheeks burning as she whispered, "I meant woman."
Phei continued staring at her.
She lasted perhaps two seconds, her gaze slipped away.
"No," she admitted softly. "I didn’t."
Something inside Phei broke open.
He leaned over her and gathered her against him with such sudden tenderness that Sienna’s eyes widened. His mouth found the nape of her neck, but the kiss he pressed there carried none of the earlier teasing. It was long, warm and almost reverent, his lips lingering against her skin while his arms held her close enough for her to feel the unsteady breath leaving him.
"My wife..." he whispered against her skin.
Sienna shivered but her arms tightened around him:
"Mm," she breathed, closing her eyes. "Your wife."
She kissed him before either of them could ruin it by speaking again, holding him close as the strange finality of her choice settled warmly between them.
Whatever tomorrow called them, whatever titles the world eventually gave them, Sienna had already chosen hers.
He thrust so deep her foot left the pond floor for a moment. A sudden, intense warmth bloomed just above her navel. His dragonic Mark flared to life on her skin—glowing, permanent, binding—searing itself into her flesh as he continued to take her.
The moment it fully settled, a powerful new bond snapped into place between them, stronger and deeper than the one they already shared.
Sienna gasped sharply as she felt it flood through her: his presence, his pleasure, his raw emotions pouring into her as clearly as her own while he kept fucking her through the marking, claiming her completely with every hard, relentless stroke.
He held her tighter, one arm wrapped around her waist, the other still supporting her raised leg, and kissed the glowing Mark on her skin as he buried himself to the hilt once more—tender even in the midst of the claiming, never once easing the powerful drive of his hips.
****
The dragon Mark that had seared itself into her skin just above Sienna’s navel, was different once again, the crimson light spread beneath her pale flesh before gathering into the familiar shape of a winged dragon.
Phei had seen the Mark change once before.
Originally, it had resembled little more than an exquisitely detailed tattoo, beautiful and unmistakably supernatural, yet still something that appeared painted upon the skin. Its first evolution had happened with Roxanne, at the same time his Healing Touch underwent its own transformation, and afterward the little dragon had become far more than simple lines and color.
It was still seared into the skin rather than drawn upon it, its scales matte black, the undersides of its wings blood-crimson, its tail curled like a whip before ending in a small vicious barb, but everything about it had gained depth.
Tiny muscles seemed to flex beneath those scales, its wings shifted naturally, and its movements no longer looked like ink sliding across flesh:
It resembled an actual miniature dragon resting beneath the surface, breathing, stretching, curling its tail and occasionally turning its head as though reacting to whatever happened around the woman carrying it.
The marking itself had always been unnervingly quick.
Wherever the woman chose to carry it, the System respected that choice, and once she accepted the Mark, the entire dragon burned itself into place in less than two heartbeats. There was also that that final little flex when the last line closed, almost like the creature drawing its first breath.
It always marked itself whenever the woman pleased.
Phei had realized Mark truly had a certain life inside it.
Now, upon Sienna, it evolved again.
The dragon grew until it was roughly the size of a rose, larger than any Mark Phei had seen before without looking excessive against her pale skin. Its matte-black scales became even more distinct, every tiny plate seeming individually formed, while the blood-crimson beneath its wings remained as fierce as ever.
Except now something new had entered that crimson. A soft pink hue threaded through the undersides of the wings, faint at first before settling naturally through the darker red, strangely delicate against the little creature’s otherwise fierce appearance. Even the barb at the end of its curled tail seemed sharper, and when the dragon flexed after the final line closed, its body shifted with such natural weight that Phei could almost believe an actual miniature dragon had curled itself against Sienna’s stomach.
Then Phei noticed its eyes.
The good ol’ obsidian slits were gone.
In their place were eyes identical to his own.
Phei stared.
The tiny dragon slowly lifted its head. Its tail shifted against Sienna’s skin, one wing opened slightly, then both gave a slow, almost lazy flex before settling again. Those familiar eyes remained fixed upon him the entire time, carrying an awareness the previous Marks had never possessed so plainly.
The first evolution had made the Mark more alive.
This one made it look as though something of him had finally awakened inside it:
