Phei stared at his Status Window with a little more surprise than he expected, his attention immediately settling on the very first thing that had quietly changed while he was too busy collecting women and enemies.
[Race: Dragon]
The System had finally abandoned every awkward qualification that might have once followed the word. Somewhere along the road, without ceremony or even the courtesy of a notification dramatic enough for the occasion, Phei had apparently graduated into a full Dragon.
His eyes shifted one line lower and found something considerably less cooperative.
[Bloodline: Cosmic Dragon ???]
Phei stared at the three question marks for several seconds before his brows slowly pulled together.
"Seriously?"
Cosmic Dragon was clear enough for the System to confidently name his bloodline, but whatever came after it deserved three smug little question marks and absolutely no explanation.
Naturally.
’Why answer the person whose body actually contained the bloodline when suspicious punctuation could be left lying around instead?’
Unfortunately, his imagination needed very little encouragement.
’Am I secretly more than that?’
Phei rubbed his chin, studying the line as several possibilities began volunteering themselves.
His life had become strange enough that theories he would have laughed at months ago now required at least a few seconds of serious consideration.
"Hah. Wonder whatever the hell I am, then."
Hopefully he was not the reincarnation of some ancient Dragon bastard who had died twelve universes ago and was patiently waiting for Phei to finish cultivating his body before crawling out with a grateful smile and announcing that the preparation had been appreciated.
The thought alone soured Phei’s expression.
"Fuck that."
If some dead Dragon ever emerged from his soul claiming Phei had spent nineteen years preparing a vessel for it; they were both dying.
Phei would find a way to drag the bastard down with him before allowing an ancient grandfather with unfinished celestial business to inherit his face, his women and his life.
Thankfully, there were much less offensive possibilities:
Cosmic Dragon might simply be the first revealed layer of a bloodline that still had room to awaken, or the question marks might represent something the System itself could not properly classify yet.
Phei personally preferred the third explanation, which was that he had simply been born ridiculously overpowered and reality had finally run out of respectable terminology.
That sounded reasonable.
More importantly, whatever waited behind those question marks, he was still himself.
Phei felt strangely certain of that, with the deep instinctive confidence that came from somewhere beneath thought. Whether it was his bloodline, his soul or plain arrogance speaking hardly mattered.
His gaze moved lower.
[Power-Level Rank: Master Stage]
That almost made him laugh.
With everything currently sitting inside his Status Window, Master Stage was beginning to resemble a clerical mistake nobody had bothered correcting. His Soul Realm alone had no business existing anywhere near his present cultivation, while several of his newer powers appeared to have abandoned the mortal progression chart entirely and started constructing their own road somewhere in the distance.
Phei was hardly discouraged by that.
He was Master Stage today.
Whatever came next would arrive soon enough, and if his recent growth continued at anything resembling its current pace, he suspected there would eventually come a day when he looked back at cultivation realms people spent thousands of years struggling through and wondered why everyone had made the process sound so difficult.
His attention moved into the ability sections.
The DxD side had changed less dramatically, though one alteration stood out immediately. The old Tame Mark had disappeared from where he remembered it, replaced by Harem Mark, and beside the new name rested another addition that interested him far more.
[Harem Mark [Living Soul: First Step]
Phei stared at it thoughtfully.
"So you really do rename things whenever I change how I word them."
The System rewarded this magnificent observation with silence.
"Flexible bastard."
Still, the change made sense.
Tame Mark had belonged to an earlier version of both the ability and Phei himself.
Somewhere along the way, he had stopped thinking of the women carrying it as people he had simply conquered or tamed; they were his women now, his lovers, companions and family, bound into his life deeply enough that the old name no longer represented what the Mark had become.
Apparently the System had followed that change in him.
Living Soul remained another matter entirely.
The little dragon had already become increasingly alive upon the women carrying his Mark, and after Sienna, the System had formally acknowledged that evolution while refusing to explain what it would eventually become.
Magnificent fool.
Phei moved lower into his sexual abilities, where a surprising number of names stared back at him like old acquaintances he had accumulated too quickly to properly appreciate.
Charm Speech Lv.8 was perhaps the simplest example of how thoroughly some abilities had become him:
Once, he had consciously understood it as a power that made his voice smoother, more soothing and unnaturally convincing. Now he could barely separate Charm Speech from the act of speaking. There was no sensation of activation and no internal switch being flipped whenever he opened his mouth.
He talked, and the ability simply lived inside every syllable.
Then there was Taboo Multiplier Lv.2, which made Phei pause with a faintly suspicious expression.
That shameless passive ability had probably contributed far more to his romantic success than he had ever bothered calculating:
Its effect granted him a 40% increase in success whenever he entered situations the System classified as taboo, including forbidden family relationships, public intimacy, complicated differences in power or authority between the woman and him; women whose status should have made pursuing them considerably more troublesome, and the many other circumstances civilization had politely placed behind enormous signs reading Please Behave.
Phei had apparently spent much of his new life walking past those signs without noticing the writing.
More troublingly useful was the secondary effect. The more often he involved himself in such situations, the more Taboo Multiplier quietly fed additional percentage increases into his other seduction abilities.
The System never showed him exactly how large those accumulated increases had become.
Phei frowned at that.
How much had the numbers climbed by now? Ten percent would already matter. Fifty would be ridiculous. Two hundred no longer sounded completely impossible considering the past few weeks of his life.
Perhaps the System itself had lost count and was too ashamed to admit it.
The Perfect Addiction was considerably easier to understand.
Once a woman genuinely desired him then engaged and experienced intimacy with Phei, whether through deliberately seductive contact, kissing or something deeper, her body gradually began remembering him.
His touch, presence and even scent could become something she missed once enough attachment had formed.
That did not create love.
Phei had noticed that pattern across almost every one of these abilities.
The System could amplify emotions already present, sharpen attraction, deepen temptation and make his natural advantages outrageously unfair, but it never simply reached into an unwilling woman and manufactured feelings that had never existed.
Strangely enough, Phei found that reassuring.
The more his abilities developed, the less the System felt like some foreign machine stapled onto his existence and the more it seemed to reflect the same boundaries buried inside his own soul.
It helped him push doors already open, sometimes with all the subtlety of a Dragon kicking them off their hinges, but it did not build the door where none existed.
Perfect Addiction simply made walking away increasingly difficult once a woman truly wanted him.
She could consider her options, compare him with another man and spend several nights convincing herself that leaving would be wiser. Eventually, however, her body had an irritating tendency to arrive at a far simpler conclusion.
Go back.
Phei smiled faintly.
"Understandable."
Unlike most of the passive abilities quietly causing trouble in the background, Compelling Gaze actually required deliberate activation, and Phei could not remember using the damn thing even once.
That was probably for the best.
Compelling Gaze turned his eyes into something dangerously close to a gravitational well for existing desire. A woman already carrying attraction toward him would feel that attraction pulling harder once their eyes properly locked, while every seduction-based ability Phei possessed received an absurd two-hundred-percent amplification.
Phei still found that number offensive.
