The System’s ellipsis lingered long enough to become insulting before the blue window finally shifted.
[Detailed Explanation for Host:At the moment of physical contact, Hunger Touch first overwhelms the target’s senses before penetrating deeper into the mind. The skill seizes the target’s purest and most private lusts, including fantasies never spoken aloud and desires the target may refuse to acknowledge even within themselves. Lust Reality is capable of reconstructing those desires into a fully realized, self-sustaining reality.]
Phei’s earlier amusement faded as he read the explanation twice. The wording was clearer now, and somehow that only made the ability sound even more outrageous.
"So basically, once the construction of this dream is complete, the target’s soul is forcibly torn from their physical body and sealed inside the new reality the skill created?"
[Affirmative, Host!]
Phei leaned forward slightly. "Okay. What happens to the body?"
[The physical body remains behind as an empty vessel while the target’s soul is trapped within Lust Reality. To the target, the created world is indistinguishable from reality. Every sensation experienced within it is perceived as genuine, and the reality continuously adapts itself according to the target’s own hunger, fantasies and desires.]
Phei’s eyebrows climbed. That was far nastier than the first description had made it sound.
Wasn’t this the most overpowered ability he’d ever had then?
The ability did not simply trap someone inside a pleasant dream:
It reached into the deepest corners of their mind, found whatever they had spent years wanting, regretting, denying or secretly imagining, then handed it back to them with enough detail that their own soul accepted the counterfeit world as reality.
For someone lonely, perhaps it created the perfect lover. Someone drowning in pride might find themselves surrounded by endless worship, while a conqueror could wake inside a world where kingdoms already knelt at their feet.
’Lust, after all, does not necessarily begin and end in a bed.’
People lusted after beauty, power, attention, possession, victory, revenge and a thousand other things civilization had simply given more respectable names.
Phei rubbed his chin. "So how long do they stay there in that reality? And I also want to know how this works between different targets. There has to be some difference depending on strength, willpower and cultivation, right? I seriously doubt some random mortal and a World Transcendent are spending the same amount of time trapped."
[Duration may range from four hours to indefinite imprisonment. In extreme cases, a soul that remains trapped may eventually perish within Lust Reality through prolonged spiritual overload.]
Phei’s expression twisted. "Yeah, that’s nasty."
’Too much of anything eventually became poison.’
Apparently even having every desire fulfilled could become torture if the universe refused to let you wake up afterward.
He looked back at the glowing text. "But four hours minimum?"
[Affirmative. Once Lust Reality has completely formed around a captured soul, no target can escape in less than four hours regardless of cultivation.]
That made Phei straighten. "Regardless?"
[Regardless.]
Now that mattered.
[Individual resistance begins to matter after the first four hours. Powerful souls, exceptional willpower, unusual mental defenses, Soul Realms and certain spiritual abilities may shorten the remaining imprisonment. Weaker targets may remain trapped longer and die eventually.]
The System paused briefly before continuing:
[However, strength alone does not guarantee rapid escape. Lust Reality is constructed from the target’s own buried desires. A being may possess overwhelming cultivation and still remain vulnerable if the created reality fulfills something they have craved deeply enough.]
Phei slowly nodded. That made considerably more sense. A World Transcendent could probably shatter mountains by accident and still spend centuries carrying one stupid little desire nobody knew about.
Immortality did not cure people of wanting things.
’If anything, living for several thousand years probably gives them more time to build an impressive collection of unresolved problems.’
"So even someone ridiculously powerful might realize something feels wrong but still hesitate to leave because the world is giving them exactly what they’ve wanted for ages?"
[Correct, Host.]
"Damn."
He could already imagine how cruel that could become.
A prisoner might eventually understand that the world around them was false and still find themselves unwilling to break it, because escaping meant voluntarily abandoning the only place where everything they had ever wanted actually existed.
Evil, definitely, although Phei could hardly deny how useful that particular evil might become tonight.
He stared thoughtfully at the ability before remembering the other part of his question. "Okay, what about gender? And also the other thing I asked."
The System remained silent for half a second.
[Host previously stated that Host was not a fool.]
Phei blinked.
[The System has already answered the important portions of Host’s questions.]
His eyes narrowed. "Hey. Nobody likes a smartass. Answer me."
Another pause followed, suspiciously deliberate this time.
[Sigh. So much for Host not being a fool.]
Phei’s mouth opened. "You sighed? You sighed you fucking motherfu..."
The next notification appeared before he could finish abusing the metaphysical software responsible for his life.
[Lust Reality functions regardless of gender. The skill targets desire and the soul rather than biological sex.]
Phei pointed accusingly at the window. "See? Was that difficult?"
[Additionally, Host is strongly advised to reserve this ability for enemies and hostile targets.]
That caught him. "Why?"
[Because Lust Reality currently possesses no harmless function.]
Phei’s expression settled as another explanation followed.
[Host cannot reduce the skill into a recreational dream for lovers, friends or family. Once successfully activated, Lust Reality attempts to seize the target’s soul and imprison it within the constructed reality. The minimum confinement and spiritual risks remain present.]
Phei gave a slow nod.
That answered the question he had been circling around.
There would be no letting one of his women experience some perfect fantasy for ten pleasant minutes before pulling her back out laughing. The ability had apparently skipped every reasonable setting between harmless fun and spiritual kidnapping.
"Fine. Rivals only."
[Recommended.]
"That’s all you had to say, you dimwit."
[...]
Phei stared suspiciously at the three dots. "Why? Are you developing a personality now?"
The System responded immediately.
[The System is sentient.]
Phei’s eyelid twitched.
[Furthermore, prolonged adaptation to Host has resulted in certain conversational adjustments.]
"Conversational adjustments?"
[Host’s shameless personality appears to have been mildly contagious.]
Phei placed one hand against his chest as though deeply wounded. "You’re blaming me for corrupting an all-powerful System?"
[Correct.]
"That is slander."
[Recorded evidence suggests otherwise.]
"You ungrateful bastard."
[Host should reflect upon Host’s behavior.]
Phei sighed and dismissed the argument before he somehow ended up losing a debate against floating blue text. Fantastic.
Even his System had begun developing attitude, and at this rate Eira would eventually start getting along with it, leaving Phei with two invisible nuisances discussing his life decisions from opposing shoulders.
He returned his attention to Lust Reality, and the comedy gradually drained away as its true value settled properly inside his head. One touch could guarantee at least four hours of imprisonment, and against enemies sitting fourteen cultivation stages beyond him, four hours might as well have been four years.
The entire Coffer operation suddenly looked different.
Danton would still be a nightmare, naturally. Phei doubted anything involving that bastard could ever become convenient without violating several laws of fate. The World Transcendents accompanying him, however, were the true wall surrounding the Coffer. Ten of them, perhaps more, each one so far beyond Phei’s present cultivation that fighting them directly would amount to an extremely elaborate suicide note.
Lust Reality changed that mathematics, provided he could actually touch them.
