The situation had become clear enough that there was no point in continuing to attack the Gorun formation directly. Every time I destroyed one of its projections, another simply took its place, while the runic circle above the battlefield continued producing increasingly powerful meteors.

Worse, the army below was not being depleted at anything resembling a meaningful rate. More Goruns continued emerging from the distant ranks, filling the spaces left by those we had killed until the army seemed almost as large as it had been when the trial began.

There was no end to them.

If we continued fighting this way, we would exhaust ourselves long before they ran out of soldiers.

I therefore stopped trying to break through the formation and focused entirely on defense. My attention shifted toward the meteors descending from the sky, and I began studying the Soul Force contained within each one rather than their physical structure.

With every wave, my perception expanded farther, spreading across the battlefield like an invisible tide until I could distinguish the individual streams of energy moving through the falling projectiles.

An idea formed almost immediately.

It was crude, untested and something I had never attempted before, but the principle behind it was simple enough. If the Goruns could continuously reinforce their attacks with Soul Force, then I could simply take that Soul Force away before it reached us.

I extended my perception until every meteor within range became part of my awareness.

Then I activated the skill.

"Eternal Consumption."

The moment the skill took effect, invisible currents of devouring force wrapped around every meteor simultaneously. Instead of destroying the projectiles, I reached directly into the Soul Force sustaining them and began extracting it.

The energy resisted violently at first, but the technique continued consuming it until the power contained within each meteor began dropping rapidly.

Fifty percent.

That was all I managed to strip away before the remaining energy became too unstable to consume safely.

Even so, the difference was enormous.

The next wave descended with half the strength it should have possessed, and the Saints immediately noticed. Their defensive Domains no longer needed to absorb the full force of the attacks, giving everyone a brief reprieve.

More importantly, the Soul Force I had consumed did not disappear.

It flowed directly into my Soul Sea.

A steady stream of energy poured into me with every passing second, replenishing what I spent on the technique and gradually increasing my reserves. I had effectively turned the Goruns’ greatest weapon into a source of nourishment for myself.

So I continued.

Wave after wave descended from the enormous runic circle while I devoured half of the energy contained within each meteor before it reached the expedition. The others destroyed what remained, and together we slowly endured the bombardment.

But endurance had its price.

Time continued to pass.

The clock above the battlefield moved relentlessly toward its final rotation, while the Saints around me became increasingly exhausted. Domains that had once covered kilometers began shrinking. Defensive techniques became slower and less stable. Several Saints were already covered in wounds, and even the strongest among us were visibly struggling to maintain their strength.

The Goruns, meanwhile, showed no signs of exhaustion.

Their numbers continued increasing.

When I looked toward the clock again, only a minute remained.

Around me, nearly half of the expedition was barely standing. Some Saints were kneeling, others were supporting themselves with weapons driven into the ground, and several had already exhausted most of their Soul Force. Everyone understood that the final minute would determine whether we survived.

I slowly stepped forward.

The ancient tablet behind me trembled as its enormous chains tightened against the heavens.

My perception spread outward once more, this time ignoring the meteors entirely.

I reached toward the army below.

Ten Thousand Goruns entered my perception at once including Saints. The Soul Force circulating through every one of them.

I smiled.

"Let’s finish this."

My Soul Force surged outward.

"Thousand Soul Blossoms."

The effect was immediate.

Ten thousand silver blooms manifested simultaneously within the bodies of the Goruns scattered across the battlefield. For a fraction of a second, they remained completely unaware of what had happened.

Then the flowers opened.

The bodies of thousands of warriors ruptured from within as their accumulated Soul Force was forcibly torn from their souls. Among them were several Saint-level Goruns whose expressions changed only moments before their bodies collapsed beneath the overwhelming force of the technique.

Their Soul Force erupted into the air and immediately reversed direction, rushing toward me in countless streams.

I opened my arms and allowed it to enter my Soul Sea.

The sensation was overwhelming.

Thousands upon thousands of souls had been reduced to pure energy, and every fragment of Soul Force they possessed was being drawn into me. My Soul Sea expanded beneath the sudden influx, waves of silver energy crashing against its boundaries as the reserves I had accumulated throughout the battle surged upward.

And above the battlefield, the enormous clock continued moving.

Only seconds remained.

The final second passed with the entire battlefield holding its breath.

The enormous clock hanging above the crimson sky reached the end of its final rotation, and the instant its hand crossed the mark, every Gorun froze.

The endless army that had filled the wasteland for an entire day simply vanished.

There was no explosion, no final attack and no dramatic retreat. One moment millions of bronze-skinned warriors stood across the horizon, and the next there was nothing but the barren battlefield they had occupied. The gigantic Gorun projection disappeared with them, and the enormous runic circle above the sky dissolved into countless fading sparks.

The sudden silence was almost disorienting.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Then the familiar sound of footsteps approached from behind us.

Macaco emerged from the empty air with the same cheerful smile he had worn when the trial began.

"Well done!"

He clapped his hands enthusiastically.

"That was considerably more exciting than I expected. Fifteen entered this trial, and only four of you failed to make it through. Considering what you were facing, I would call that an excellent result."

Nobody responded immediately.

We were too exhausted to celebrate.

Macaco, however, seemed perfectly happy to continue speaking.

"You should understand just how impressive that actually is. The Goruns weren’t designed to be defeated by a small group of Saints. Their formation was built to overwhelm an entire civilization through prolonged warfare, and you somehow managed to survive against an army that could replenish itself indefinitely."

His gaze briefly settled upon me.

"And I suspect that without certain individuals here constantly compensating for the weaknesses of the others, your casualty count would have been considerably higher."

He smiled again.

"But that is precisely why this was a trial of survival. Strength alone was never going to be enough. You needed people who could defend, people who could support, people who could adapt and, most importantly, people who could keep moving when everyone else was ready to collapse."

His hands returned behind his back as he glanced across the battlefield one final time.

"Regardless, the Second Trial is now complete."

The moment those words left his mouth, the ground behind him began to tremble.

A massive structure slowly emerged from the barren earth.

At first, only its enormous frame became visible, but within moments a gigantic door stood behind Macaco, towering hundreds of meters above the battlefield. Its surface was completely black, yet faint silver lines moved across it like currents beneath frozen water.

Macaco stepped aside and gestured toward it.

"Behind this door..."

His smile remained strangely casual.

"...is the Twelfth Soul Current."

The atmosphere changed immediately. Everyone’s attention locked onto the enormous door.

Macaco continued as though he were explaining the entrance to another room.

"Once you open it, the Current will be released from its confinement and enter this battlefield. After that, what happens is entirely up to you."
