"So, these kids insisted upon joining you, even though you had never met them before?" Max’s grandfather asked.

"Yes, that is true." Max nodded his head.

Everyone in the room looked at the old man. The faces of the parents and guardians revealed an ugly state of anger. They all knew exactly what had transpired yesterday evening. It was their kids who had insisted upon joining him, not just once, but multiple times. They had not left him alone until he agreed to join. Because of this, their demand to expel Max from the Academy had suddenly become weak.

"Mr. Bransford, what are you trying to imply here? Even though our kids were the ones who invited him out of kindness, that does not deny the fact that some assassin is constantly tailing your grandson. This will definitely put the other students in danger." Standing up, Gina’s grandmother threw out a logical argument as to why Max was supposed to be removed from the Academy.

"I believe my grandson saved your granddaughter, even when an experienced Healer failed to save her," Max’s grandfather spoke again, looking toward the old lady and the others.

"Moreover, this is the No. 1 Academy in the Capital. I believe the Head Teacher will assure the families that they will protect the students inside the Academy, as well as outside if any journeys are to be made. Your claim that your kids will become collateral damage only applies if my grandson and your kids were to go out together again. I assure you, that will not happen again. I advise you to warn your kids not to invite unknown persons to eat with them hereafter." Max’s grandfather provided a logical explanation, dragging the Academy's name into the matter.

However, the logic he stated was indeed true. The students would be 100% protected inside the Academy. Even if the students were to go out for an Expedition, their safety was guaranteed because a multitude of Teachers would go along with them. Aside from the regular Teachers, a few other security measures would also be taken. Hence, their safety was completely guaranteed.

"Our kids invited your grandson out of kindness. They were not aware that they had invited death. Until he gets expelled from the Academy, we parents will not sleep peacefully at night. Even though the Academy gives a 100% guarantee regarding the safety of the students, I hope the Head Teacher will make a good decision on this matter for the safety of our kids," the first girl's father said, looking toward the Head Teacher.

The Academy Head Teacher silently listened to the parents' arguments. This issue did not place any pressure or a bad name on the Academy. Because the incident had happened under normal circumstances and not while the Academy supervised the students, the Head Teacher faced less pressure to make the right decision.

However, this incident definitely placed a lot of pressure on him from the other wealthy and politically strong families. What guarantee could the Academy give that these things would never happen again to one of their heirs?

Thus, expelling the kid who was the target of the assassination would be the right thing to do to appease the others. Yet, that action would place the Academy in a bad light. The other academies would viciously start a campaign regarding how an innocent student had been expelled and the incompetence of the Academy to protect its kids. Utilizing this opportunity, they would degrade the Academy’s name in order to become the No. 1 Academy in the Capital.

"Mr. Simon, thank you for your report. I hope you will continue to investigate to find who did this hideous thing." The Head Teacher spoke to the Guard, asking him to dig deep into the incident.

Hearing this, the Guard nodded his head and left the room.

Afterward, the room fell into utter silence. All of the parents were eagerly waiting for the Head Teacher to speak.

"Kids, you can all leave. Class has already started," the Head Teacher said.

Hearing this, the students cast a quick look toward their parents. With a polite bow to the Head Teacher, everyone left the room.

Max, however, quickly whispered something to his grandfather before leaving. Seeing this action, the expressions on the other parents' faces changed.

When Max stepped out of the Head Teacher's room, the others were standing outside.

"Max, sorry for the trouble. We explained everything that had happened and told our parents not to blame you, but they acted on their own, putting you under the carriage," Gina said once Max came out of the room.

Max cast a mocking look at the girl. As for the others who stood beside her, their faces displayed sadness and regret over the things that had happened in the room.

However, upon seeing the expression on Max’s face, everyone was taken aback.

"I already know who placed the poison in the food," Max said with a casual smile.

"What... What are you talking about? You already know who the culprit is? Then why did you not tell the Guards? They would have captured them!" Gina urgently said, her facial expression rapidly shifting from sadness to agitation.

"Everyone, please stop. The acting is good. However, you should try harder to fool me. I know you were the ones who placed the poison in the food." Max directly revealed the identity of the culprits to everyone.

He had already guessed this outcome after the Guard revealed the report. Since everyone in the shop was proven innocent after being checked by a Truth Seeker, how could his food have been poisoned? Well, what if the poison had been placed there by these very people?

But why?

The initial argument failed in Max’s mind. Who in their right mind would want to get poisoned by themselves, especially by that vicious [Laigaran] parasite-type poison?

If it were a normal Young Lord, they would have felt pity toward these people, not accuse them of being the culprits. However, who was Max? He was a below-average talented Young Master with a great mind for gathering knowledge.

Thus, he started to formulate a few scenarios regarding the reason and who the culprits might be. After going through all the scenarios from yesterday evening until now, he came to a conclusion. These people were indeed the culprits who had placed the poison in his food.

But why?

To expel him from the Academy, brand him as a failure, and drag his name through the mud.

The truth was, they never intended to let Max get poisoned; that would be bad for their plan. All they wanted was to expel him by accusing him of putting the other students in danger.

But why again?

It was to snatch the title of Grand Duke from his family. However, would killing Max not be an easy way for them to snatch the title?

No, that was wrong. If Max were to die, his father would become the sole ruler until he died. Since he was still young at 55 years of age, he could have another child, and that child could potentially be a genius in their Class. That outcome would throw every possibility of snatching the land into the abyss.

Therefore, to prevent this from happening, some clever people had devised a plan to make Max a laughingstock. This action would create a low opinion in their political surroundings and among the people of the West. After all, who would wish to be ruled by a weak ruler? Even the King would take a strong decision to change the ruler of the Land of the West.

To achieve this, their initial plan involved expelling him from the academy by manufacturing and disseminating fake news throughout the kingdom. It was a clever strategy, one that would be difficult for an ordinary person to see through. However, Max possessed extensive knowledge regarding the kingdom's history and its past rulers.

He recalled one particular incident concerning the Seventh King. The Seventh King possessed a mediocre son. When the time came for the son to inherit the kingdom, his siblings orchestrated a mutiny. They spread rumors that the Seventh King’s son was entirely incompetent to rule due to his average abilities. As the news circulated far and wide, the populace and the Lords exerted immense pressure, forcing the Seventh King to step down and crowning his brother's son as the Eighth King.

Currently, this group intended to replicate that exact historical scenario on him. Naturally, Max had no intention of letting that happen.

Although he harbored little interest in ruling the land, he intended to secure the position solely for his father’s sake. Should anyone attempt to ruin that, he would resort to extreme measures, casting aside all courtesy.

“What are you blabbering about?” Gina asked, her expression turning dark and completely devoid of color. The group standing behind her exhibited the exact same reaction.

“I already know your plan, and I have informed my grandfather about this matter. He will handle everything. I wish you a good life. See you,” Max stated as he walked right past them.

Prior to his departure, Max had relayed his speculations to his grandfather so that he could prepare and act accordingly. If the situation unfolded exactly as Max predicted, blood would inevitably be spilled across these people's families.
