Max was taken aback by this name of his. "Mr. Backdoor." What an ugly and uninteresting name they had given him. As far as he considered, it was a pathetic name. Regardless, since it was already widespread, he would have to embrace the name instead of insisting on changing it.

"Sorry for the disrespect. I will correct myself in the future. Please go ahead," Max said with a scared tone.

"Are you mocking me?" the tall, slim guy asked. He took a step forward, retracting his fist before bringing it down upon Max's face.

...

Level: 4

Exp: 7500/8500

Attributes: Strength 9, Agility 11, Endurance 8, Intelligence 6, Vitality 8.

Unallocated Attribute Points: 0

...

With his Level up to 4, Max had allocated most of his free points into Agility to help him move faster. Consequently, he could clearly see the punch coming at him. This guy must have placed all his points into Strength. It was a big mistake.

In a single second, Max's mind raced regarding what to do. Although he could beat these guys to a pulp, that action would place him in a hard position. Since fighting on academy premises was a taboo, it did not matter who instigated the fight; it simply should not escalate.

'Well, evade it is.'

With that thought, Max side-stepped from where he stood, easily avoiding the trajectory of the punch.

Shua!

The punch struck empty space. Immediately, the surprise on the guys' faces was apparent. They did not expect that Max could possess the speed to evade the punch without utilizing any fancy tricks. It was simply a side-step. This realization caused the surprise and anger in their hearts to boil more.

"You piece of shit," the tall, slim guy said with a dark face. He was simply embarrassed in front of his friends or lackeys.

Max, however, was a little surprised by the remark. You were the one incapable of landing the strike, yet you call me a piece of shit. What irony?

"Hey, come on, man. You did say not to talk in front of you, and you forgot to say to stay still when you punch me. You should give clear instructions instead of blaming others." Max revealed a mocking smile.

"You should know that attacking a fellow student is prohibited on the academy premises. Now that you have attacked me, you will definitely get into trouble for this." Max claimed that the other party would definitely be punished for instigating the fight.

"That only happens if the Administration receives a complaint. If you were to complain about what happened here, you will be beaten every day." The tall, slim guy revealed a smirk.

"You underestimate the authority and severity of the rules and regulations of the Number One Academy in the capital, possibly the top one in the kingdom. If I were to complain to the authorities, they will expel you from the academy. Then, how will you beat me every day?" Max explained the rules and the consequences of violence between students.

Suddenly, the spot fell into a deadly silence. Upon seeing their reaction, Max came to a conclusion. These people did not read the pamphlet regarding the rules. These individuals simply heard of the famous regulations and ignored the severity of the other rules.

"You two, hold this guy. I will pluck out every single one of his teeth. Then, we will see how he complains." The tall, slim guy ordered the two guys behind him.

Upon hearing the order, the two individuals, who were deep in thought, snapped back to reality. However, instead of rushing toward Max, they hesitated in their spots. The two knew that fighting was prohibited on academy premises, but the punishment was unheard of. Thus, they were a little reluctant to attack Max. What if what Max said was true, and they were to be expelled from the academy? Their lives would be ruined, and they would be killed by their families.

"What are you doing? Hold him quickly." The tall, slim guy shouted another order.

"Detlev, let's not rush to attack a fellow student. If we get caught, it will be an irreversible deed. Let us wait for a week until the first-year student leader competition concludes. Then, first-years can officially call for a Duel. At that time, we will put this loser in his place." His friend reasoned with him, realizing that the punishment would be severe if they were to get caught.

Hearing this, Detlev's face contracted. He could not control the humiliation that had happened just now. He wanted to beat Max to a pulp to vent his anger, but at the bottom of his heart was the matter of being expelled from the academy. Slowly, he came back to his senses and calmed himself.

What his friends just told him was a valid point. Instead of risking his life attacking him, he would wait for a week's time. Then, he could beat him officially.

"Just you wait for a week, you insolent fool! I will show you what humiliation feels like. Your name will be spread across all the capital as a fraud and an untalented bastard!" Detlev roared at Max. Following this, he walked away from the spot.

Max watched the guys walk away with a casual smile on his face. At the very least, they should have told him why they came to beat him. Now, Max was simply confused by that.

"Hey, what was the reason for you guys to beat me today?" Max yelled at the group. He just wanted to know why he was targeted, since there were plenty of reasons there.

"Is there any reason needed to beat an untalented bastard?" Detlev turned around, his face already devoid of anger. He simply spoke with a mocking smile.

"Don't call yourself untalented just because you missed one punch. You will improve your skills in the future," Max replied with the same smile on his face.

These guys were so dumb they had not even realized Max had evaded his punch just now. If anyone were to be considered untalented, it was them, not Max.

"You bastard, I will restructure your face today so that your mother will not be able to recognize you ever!" After hearing the casual insult Max threw at him, Detlev turned around and walked towards Max in big strides.

"Detlev, restrain yourself. He is trying to provoke you; do not get fooled by anger," his friends said, holding him by the hand to stop him from attacking Max.

"Is it my ranking that caused you stress?" Max asked. He could somewhat tell these guys were here to beat him because of his higher ranking on the Dungeon Expedition.

"Just you wait, you talentless leach! I will show you who I am in a week's time," Detlev declared, having once again cooled himself.

"I suggest you work hard, otherwise do not come looking for me to duel," Max said. Following which, he turned toward his dorm and walked away, as he was already late for his training.

Detlev stood there, his teeth making a grinding sound. His despise for Max had increased one level up after hearing what he said before leaving.

I will show you what despair feels like, just you wait.

At that moment, Detlev took an oath that he would make Max regret his arrogant speech in a week's time.

After leaving the spot, Max did not turn back. He directly went to his dorm, which was already open. Inside his room, his grandfather was already present.

"How did the meeting go, Grandpa?" Max asked as he entered the room.

"Not the way we want. Those people were from noble families from the Land of North. They were hell-bent on refusing the allegations, and we cannot legally impose the Truth Seeker condition on them without any proof. So, we may not find any justice on this incident," his grandfather explained regarding how things went at the meeting.

"From the Land of North. Are they trying to remove us in the West and trying to rule the whole West to North?" Max asked. He was surprised by the greediness of the people.

Although the Land of North was not as big as the Land of West, it was a very good place with dense forests, proper monsoons, and a dense population. It was a good place to live. Even with all those advantages, it was not enough for these bastards.

"We never know what greed does to people. Let us forget about that issue for now. So, how has your academy life been so far?" the old man asked.

"It has been good so far. I got a good ranking on the first Dungeon Expedition. I am planning to compete for the first-year leader heads." Max moved to prepare for the practice session.

"Very good. How is your training with class skills?" his grandfather asked.

"Not bad as well. I actually found a way to activate the class skills. Still, I have a long way to go until I perfect my skill usage," he said.

Currently, his skill proficiency was a mere 2%, some skill's increase to 5% after Dungeon Expedition. He would have to increase it until 99%, and he would have to break the bottleneck, which would require another 99% of skill proficiency. It would definitely take a lot of time, since he was trying to master different class skills simultaneously.

"Very well. Work hard and enjoy academy life as well; it will not come back once you miss it. I will leave for home now. I already told your father not to come, since there will be no use even if he comes." His grandfather said this and stood up from the cot.

"Tell mother and grandmother I am okay and doing well here. I will visit home during the vacation holiday at the six-month period," Max said as he strapped on his sword.

"Be careful. Things have changed now. People will actively target you hereafter." His grandfather nodded his head and gave his final words before leaving the place. With a blur, he disappeared out of the dorm.

"I will do that," Max muttered inside the empty room.
