My Tribrid System: More than a Monster

Chapter 406: Invasion: First Strike (4)

Chapter 404

"....."

Sucking in a sharp, deep breath, Lincoln’s eyes narrowed as he released it with a thunderous command.

"FIRE!"

A split second of silence followed.

Then...

The artillery batteries activated simultaneously, unleashing blazing spheres of condensed energy that ripped through the air as though nothing could impede their path.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

The deafening impacts echoed as the projectiles tore into flesh.

Their immense force ripped through the thick dust cloud created by the Aberrants’ landing.

The artillery never relented.

Volley after volley of blazing energy continued raining down upon the enemy.

Meanwhile...

The colossal mothership above continued dropping Aberrant after Aberrant onto the battlefield, making their numbers seem endless.

The Aspirants remained in position, weapons at the ready as they waited for Lincoln’s order to engage.

Whether the bombardment was working or not...

No one knew.

The dust obscured everything.

Then...

A thunderous roar shook the battlefield.

Its sheer force sent violent vibrations through the air, scattering the dust for a brief moment.

And then...

They emerged.

The source of humanity’s nightmare.

The sight alone caused many Aspirants behind Lincoln to instinctively hold their breath.

Towering creatures slowly came into view.

Each standing nearly nine metres tall.

At first glance, they resembled ancient apes...

But only at first glance.

Brown rock-like armour naturally covered their bodies, beginning at the tops of their heads before extending down their backs and ending at the tips of their long tails.

Even their feet were protected by the same rugged stone plating.

Their hands had evolved into enormous claws that looked capable of tearing steel apart with ease.

Their yellow slit-like eyes glared coldly at the tiny humans before them.

Protruding from each of their backs was a long bony spine that pulsed faintly with an eerie glow.

Their massive feet looked capable of crushing dozens of people beneath a single step.

It was immediately obvious...

These were no ordinary beasts.

They were monsters.

Nightmares given physical form.

And now...

Two hundred of those towering monstrosities stood before the Aspirants...

And Sergeant Lincoln.

One Aberrant alone possessed enough power to slaughter dozens of humans.

Yet...

Two hundred of them had already landed.

The next instant...

They charged.

Despite their enormous frames, they surged forward with terrifying speed—far faster than creatures of their size had any right to move.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

The thunderous rhythm of their footsteps pounded against the earth like war drums.

Several Aspirants swallowed nervously.

Buildings...

Streetlights...

Even skyscrapers crumbled beneath their overwhelming strength.

One Aberrant tore a streetlight pole from the ground with a single hand.

Holding it like a javelin...

It hurled the massive pole forward.

CRASH!

One of the artillery vehicles exploded in a ball of flames as the pole ripped straight through its reinforced armour.

Nearby...

Another Aberrant raised one enormous foot before slamming it into the street.

BOOOM!

The ground shattered beneath the impact.

Huge slabs of earth were thrown into the air.

Grabbing two enormous boulders, the creature effortlessly hurled them toward the military convoy.

The massive rocks tore through the air with such overwhelming momentum that the atmosphere itself seemed to tremble around them.

The Militants operating the artillery vehicles watched the incoming boulders.

Their breathing stopped.

For a brief instant...

The instinct to abandon their vehicles and flee flashed through their minds.

Before that thought could even fully form...

Lincoln shot forward like a missile.

Gliding through the air with the aid of his VMS boots, Lincoln shot forward at astonishing speed and landed in front of the armoured vehicles just in time.

His boots skidded across the ground as he shifted his stance slightly.

Instantly, the earth answered his command.

A towering wall of compact stone burst out from beneath the streets and snapped into place before the incoming attack.

BAM—! BOOOOM—!

The gigantic boulders crashed into the wall with earth-shattering force.

The impact echoed across the battlefield like thunder.

A massive dent immediately appeared across the centre of the earthen barricade, cracks racing across its surface.

Yet...

It held.

Barely.

Chunks of stone crumbled away as dust rained down from the damaged wall.

The charging Aberrants abruptly came to a halt the moment they saw the obstacle standing before them.

The cracked wall slowly collapsed like a tower of cards, revealing the lone human standing behind it.

In their eyes...

He looked no bigger than an ant.

Lincoln simply slid both hands into his pockets and stared ahead with an unreadable expression.

Like an immovable shield standing between humanity and destruction.

"Continue." Lincoln ordered calmly.

Without the slightest hesitation, another barrage erupted from the artillery cannons.

Blazing spheres of condensed energy streaked through the air before smashing into the Aberrants.

Blue blood splattered across their rocky armour.

Yet...

Not a single one looked close to dying.

If anything...

They appeared more irritated than injured.

The artillery shells that could demolish buildings seemed to them like nothing more than annoying mosquitoes buzzing around their bodies.

Nothing more.

One of the Aberrants finally lost its patience.

With a savage grin stretching across its monstrous face, it lunged forward.

Its enormous arms crossed before its face as the incoming artillery blasts bounced harmlessly off the thick rocky armour protecting them.

Step...

Step...

Step...

Each stride shook the streets beneath its feet.

The armoured vehicles rapidly grew larger in its vision.

Behind it, the remaining Aberrants continued advancing like an unstoppable tide.

Lincoln never moved.

He never flinched.

He simply watched.

The instant the creature attempted to take another step...

The earth beneath it suddenly surged upward.

Stone wrapped tightly around both of its legs like gigantic shackles.

The Aberrant immediately stopped in its tracks.

It glanced downward before letting out a savage grin.

With its monstrous strength, it prepared to shatter the restraints around its legs.

Then...

"Now."

Pfffffff—! Pffffff—! Pfffffff—!

Every Aspirant launched from the rooftops simultaneously.

Their VMS boots propelled them through the air like arrows released from fully drawn bows.

Lightning bloomed around Ray’s hand.

Flames engulfed Berg’s fists.

Landing atop the armoured vehicles almost at the same moment, Ray and Berg kicked off once again and shot forward side by side.

The hatred between them still burned fiercely.

Neither had forgotten what the other had done.

But...

That hatred could wait.

Right now...

They shared a far greater enemy.

One that had to die.

[Lightning Spear]

Crackling violet lightning rapidly condensed within Ray’s grasp.

In the next instant, it elongated into a dazzling spear of pure lightning.

Without hesitation...

He hurled it forward like a divine javelin.

At the very same moment, blazing fireballs erupted from Berg’s fingertips and surged after the spear.

The two attacks raced through the battlefield together.

Lightning and fire.

Different elements.

One destination.

As they converged...

The air crackled violently with overwhelming destructive force.

For the first time...

The Aberrant’s yellow eyes widened.

A flicker of horror flashed across its face.

BAM—! BOOOOOM—!

The combined attack struck with devastating precision.

The lightning spear pierced straight through the Aberrant’s abdomen while Berg’s flames detonated around the wound, ripping a massive hole through its torso.

Blue blood exploded into the air like a fountain as the attacks burst out through the creature’s back.

The gigantic body staggered violently.

Ray and Berg landed side by side before it.

Slowly straightening themselves...

They watched as the remaining Aspirants landed behind them one after another, weapons drawn and battle-ready.

The true fight...

Had finally begun.
