My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 410: A Great Invasive IntroductionChapter 408
Hands tucked inside his pockets while his coat fluttered gently behind him, Jack’s eyes remained locked on the Aberrants before him as they immediately shifted into battle-ready stances.
The Head of the Kyre Family descended gracefully onto the shattered ground.
Not even the slightest bend appeared in his knees.
Not a single muscle twitched.
He landed so effortlessly that it seemed as though gravity itself had chosen not to affect him.
His coat slowly settled back over his shoulders as if an invisible hand had straightened it for him.
Standing before well over a hundred towering Aberrants...
The lone human appeared no bigger than an ant before a colony of monsters.
Yet...
Not once did his expression change.
There wasn’t the slightest trace of fear.
Nor caution.
Nor even excitement.
Only complete indifference.
A short distance away, the helicopter gently landed while its blades continued rotating overhead.
Jack casually adjusted the glasses resting upon his nose.
The Aberrants fixed their gazes upon the calm human.
Moments earlier...
This same man had erased one of their comrades with a single attack.
...Even though it had technically been an accident.
His attack had originally been aimed at the mother ship.
One unfortunate Aberrant had simply gotten caught in its path.
Well...
A kill was still a kill.
"Seriously? Hang on... You don’t look like a member of the Corps. Who are you?" one of the Aberrants demanded, narrowing its yellow eyes at the unusually composed human.
The creatures continued studying him.
Again.
And again.
No matter how they looked at him...
They simply couldn’t believe a lone human would willingly confront them by himself.
Who would be foolish enough to challenge over a hundred Aberrants alone?
Unless...
He possessed the strength to justify such confidence.
And judging from what they had witnessed seconds earlier...
Perhaps he did.
Not far away...
The man trapped beneath the collapsed rubble slowly forced his eyes open.
Pain coursed through every part of his body.
Yet despite that...
His attention was immediately drawn toward the lone figure standing before the monstrous apes.
He repeatedly examined the man’s face.
Searching his memories.
Trying desperately to recognize him.
But nothing came.
The problem with the Big Four Legacies was simple.
They rarely appeared before the public.
Aside from the Military Commander, who also happened to be the Head of the Blade Family...
The remaining three leaders were practically legends.
Most ordinary civilians barely even knew their names.
Let alone their faces.
So...
The trapped man had absolutely no idea who currently stood between humanity and destruction.
"You definitely don’t look like Captain Raze, nor do you look like the Commander. Who are you, wea—"
The instant that final word was about to leave the Aberrant’s mouth...
Jack’s brows furrowed.
The atmosphere changed.
The air surrounding his fingertips visibly distorted.
Tiny ripples spread outward as overwhelming energy condensed into a single point.
His head tilted slightly.
His emotionless eyes pierced straight through the towering creature.
One hand slowly emerged from his pocket.
He raised a single finger.
Pure white energy gathered around its tip, humming softly with terrifying density.
Without a hint of anger...
Without raising his voice...
He calmly stared at the Aberrant.
"Maybe this will jog your memory."
Bang!
The sound was astonishingly small.
Almost insignificant.
The Aberrant merely blinked.
...
It never blinked again.
A beam of blinding white light pierced straight through its skull before anyone could even perceive the attack.
Its head simply...
Vanished.
Not exploded.
Not shattered.
It melted.
The intense energy instantly vaporized flesh, bone, and armored plating alike, leaving nothing behind but a smoking neck.
SPURT—!
Blue blood erupted into the air like a geyser.
The towering corpse remained standing for a brief moment.
Its gigantic body swayed lazily from side to side...
Before finally crashing onto the ruined street with an earth-shaking thud.
BOOOOM!
A massive cloud of dust rolled across the battlefield.
"....."
Silence descended across the battlefield.
Every pair of eyes shifted between the headless Aberrant lying motionless on the ground...
...and the lone human casually adjusting the glasses resting upon his face before slipping one hand back into his pocket.
Not a trace of emotion could be seen on him.
The silence stretched longer.
Heavier.
Around them, the surviving Corps members immediately sprang back into action.
Ignoring the overwhelming pressure radiating from the battlefield, they hurriedly dug trapped civilians out from beneath collapsed buildings.
Some carried the wounded over their shoulders.
Others dragged survivors away before the inevitable clash began.
No one dared linger.
High above...
The mother ship continued drifting through the sky like a drunken beast.
One of its primary wings had already been blasted apart.
Smoke poured endlessly from the damaged section.
Its enormous body listed from side to side as sparks showered from the exposed machinery.
It fought desperately to remain airborne.
But everyone present could tell...
Its crash was only a matter of time.
Whoooosh!
Several reconnaissance drones rapidly flew into view.
They spread across the ruined shelter, silently recording every second of the unfolding battle.
The Aberrants spared the drones only the briefest glance before returning their full attention to the lone human.
’Flashy clothing... overwhelming aura... glasses... and now that strange white energy...’
One of the Aberrants silently pieced the clues together.
Its pupils slowly contracted.
Recognition finally dawned upon it.
Across from the creature...
The corners of Jack’s lips curled into a knowing smile.
"Seems you’ve figured out who I am. I already know the Aberrants have intel on us."
"Oi! What happened? Who are we up against?" another Aberrant demanded while tightening its stance.
The creature beside it instinctively took half a step backward.
Fear...
Something rarely seen among the towering monsters...
Had quietly surfaced.
Jack ignored them completely.
Instead...
He slowly lifted his head toward the blazing sun hanging high above.
For a brief moment...
He simply basked beneath its warmth.
Then...
He disappeared.
There was no sonic boom.
No flash of light.
No distortion in the air.
Even his overwhelming aura vanished alongside him.
It was as though he had never existed.
The battlefield remained deathly still.
Then...
Whooom—!
Two Aberrants simultaneously grabbed their throats.
Their eyes widened in disbelief.
Thin streams of blue blood seeped through the gaps between their fingers no matter how desperately they tried to stem the flow.
A second later...
White flames erupted from inside their severed necks.
The intense heat instantly consumed their heads.
They melted away like butter beneath a blazing furnace.
BOOOOM!
Their gigantic corpses crashed onto the ruined street one after another.
The impact shook the entire shelter.
Dust surged skyward in towering clouds.
Cracks rapidly spread through the already shattered streets.
The terrified civilians hiding beneath the ruins instinctively curled into themselves.
They couldn’t see what was happening outside.
Only hear it.
Only feel the relentless tremors ripping through the ground.
"He... he’s part of the Big Four Legacies!"
One of the Aberrants shouted while desperately scanning the battlefield.
"...The Head of the Kyre Family!"
The words had barely left its mouth...
Before Jack appeared directly in front of it.
Hovering effortlessly in midair.
Completely defying gravity.
A calm smile rested upon his face.
Floating lazily around his fingertips were several crescent-shaped blades of brilliant white energy.
Each one hummed softly...
Yet the surrounding air visibly warped from the overwhelming heat they emitted.
"Thanks for the introduction."
The Aberrant reacted instantly.
Its massive hands shot toward Jack’s head with astonishing speed.
But...
They suddenly stopped.
Slash.
A single white crescent quietly swept across the creature’s neck.
There was almost no resistance.
Its colossal head slowly slid from its shoulders before crashing onto the broken street.
A heartbeat later...
Its body followed.
BOOOOM!
Blue blood flooded the ground.
That single death...
Finally shattered whatever composure remained among the Aberrants.
Roars erupted from every direction.
The gigantic creatures exploded into motion all at once.
Some leapt into the air.
Others swung their tails wildly.
Many launched attacks toward empty space, hoping to strike the elusive human.
The problem was...
How exactly were they supposed to defeat someone they couldn’t even follow with their eyes?
Jack wasn’t simply moving quickly.
From their perspective...
It looked as though he was teleporting across the battlefield.
One moment he stood dozens of metres away.
The next...
Another Aberrant would simply collapse without ever realizing death had already reached it.
