Chapter 407

Shooting through the air was Van’s completed masterpiece.

He had spent an entire week tirelessly perfecting the design.

His mechanical arms had always exposed a major flaw in combat.

He was always the support.

He couldn’t engage directly, and sooner or later, he would end up severely injured, forcing Ray to abandon whatever battle he was fighting just to come rescue him.

He hated that.

He didn’t want his best friend constantly risking his life because of him like he was some helpless damsel in distress.

So, he spent days locking himself inside the workshop, barely sleeping as he refined countless blueprints before finally arriving at a single conclusion.

Instead of armor protecting only his arms...

Why not create an entire suit?

The idea itself wasn’t the problem.

Powering it was.

His meta-force simply wasn’t sufficient to keep such a massive machine running for long.

Luckily...

He already knew the perfect power source.

Beast Cores.

Unfortunately, even Advanced Rank Beast Cores weren’t enough to supply half the energy the suit required.

He needed something far stronger.

Thankfully, Ray had gifted him two King Rank Beast Cores after returning from the Forgotten Lands.

Those cores...

Were more than enough.

And now...

Soaring through the air toward the mother ship...

Was Van’s completed mech suit.

The towering machine stood well over fifteen feet tall.

Its body was predominantly white, covered in sleek, overlapping armor plates that blended durability with elegance.

Dark metallic joints connected every limb, exposing intricate gears, pistons, and mechanical components that moved with flawless synchronization whenever the suit shifted.

Embedded in the center of its chest rested a massive glowing blue core.

Its brilliant light pulsed rhythmically like the heartbeat of a giant.

The head possessed a compact, helmet-like structure with a dark visor stretching across its face.

Behind it extended two long antennae that constantly adjusted themselves, receiving and transmitting signals faster than the human eye could perceive.

Rocket thrusters beneath its feet roared continuously, keeping the enormous machine suspended effortlessly in midair.

Pointing both robotic hands forward...

The countless mechanical spiders detached from the armor.

Like a swarm acting under a single command, they rapidly rearranged themselves around his forearms.

Click!

Click!

Click!

Within seconds...

Twin massive cannons had formed.

Their barrels spun rapidly while glowing blue energy condensed deep inside.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

Blazing beams erupted from the cannons like meteors streaking across the heavens.

Each beam screamed through the air before colliding against the mother ship.

The vessel immediately abandoned every other target.

Every emitter pivoted toward the approaching mech.

Before the gigantic cannons beneath the ship could even discharge...

Van’s beams reached them first.

BOOM!

One emitter exploded into countless fragments.

BOOM!

A second followed immediately after.

Chunks of burning metal rained from the sky.

But the mother ship possessed dozens more.

Without hesitation...

The remaining emitters unleashed an endless barrage of crimson laser beams.

The sky instantly became a deadly web of destruction.

Van’s fingers danced across invisible controls.

No...

He wasn’t controlling the suit.

He was communicating with it.

Every movement felt natural.

As though the mech itself had become another part of his own body.

It rolled.

Twisted.

Spun.

Dove between laser beams with astonishing precision.

One moment it climbed vertically.

The next...

It spiraled sideways before accelerating beneath another barrage.

Any ordinary pilot would have been vaporized within seconds.

Funnily enough...

Van hadn’t even trained with the suit once.

His ability completely eliminated that necessity.

He didn’t simply operate machines.

He understood them.

He could communicate with every mechanical component, breathe life into cold steel, and command machinery as though it were merely an extension of his own will.

While weaving effortlessly through the barrage...

He continued firing.

Beam after beam blasted from his cannons.

From the ground below, the artillery vehicles synchronized perfectly with him, bombarding the mother ship from another angle.

Forced to divide its attention between the sky and the streets...

The mother ship slowly began losing control of the engagement.

That was the explosion Ray had heard moments earlier.

His eyes remained fixed upon his best friend.

Thanks to his extraordinary eyesight, he could clearly observe every movement of the massive mech despite the distance separating them.

The rocket boots beneath its feet continuously adjusted their output, allowing Van to hover, accelerate, brake, and weave through the air with unbelievable agility.

For a brief moment...

Ray’s attention lingered on the battle above.

That tiny hesitation...

Was all the Aberrant needed.

With a savage roar, the towering creature violently twisted its body.

Its gigantic heels scraped across the broken street, generating enough friction to shower sparks into the air.

Its enormous arm swung toward Ray with terrifying speed.

The force behind the attack distorted the air itself.

Ray’s eyes widened.

The incoming blow almost sent him hurtling through the air.

Fortunately...

His instincts reacted first.

[LOL]

A brilliant golden lasso materialized from thin air.

Whoosh!

It lashed forward with blinding speed before tightly wrapping around one of the Aberrant’s massive wrists.

The creature instinctively covered the back of its neck with its free hand.

It had already realized the human had discovered the location of one of its vital crystals.

If those crystals shattered...

Its hidden heart would be exposed.

The golden rope tightened around the creature’s arm.

Using the tremendous tension...

Ray swung downward before releasing his grip.

He landed lightly upon the broken street with perfect feline grace.

Grinding his teeth with fierce determination, Ray dug his feet deep into the shattered earth.

The asphalt cracked beneath his boots.

Muscles bulging, he pulled with every ounce of strength his body could muster.

The golden lasso stretched taut.

For a brief moment...

The towering Aberrant actually slid forward.

Its massive feet carved deep trenches through the broken street.

Then...

The creature let out a furious snarl.

Its remaining hand shot forward, grabbing the glowing lasso with crushing force before yanking it with all its might.

"....."

For a single heartbeat...

It looked like Ray had resisted.

His boots remained planted firmly against the ground.

But the next instant...

BOOM!

The earth beneath him exploded.

His body shot through the air like a missile, hurtling straight toward the Aberrant with a look of astonishment flashing across his face.

’Right... It’s injured.’

The realization dawned on him too late.

Within a second...

He was already directly in front of the towering creature.

Its gigantic fist swallowed his entire field of vision.

There was no room to dodge.

[Halo of Protection]

A radiant sphere of golden light instantly enveloped Ray’s body.

BOOOOOOM!

The Aberrant’s fist collided with the barrier.

A deafening shockwave erupted from the point of impact.

The street beneath them caved inward as chunks of asphalt, concrete, and rubble blasted into the air.

Although the barrier absorbed most of the force...

The remaining impact still sent Ray hurtling backward like a cannonball.

CRAAASH!

His body smashed through the outer wall of a nearby building before crashing through several rooms.

Glass exploded outward in glittering fragments.

Concrete crumbled.

Steel beams bent violently before finally bringing him to a stop beneath a cloud of dust.

The Aberrant grinned wickedly.

Taking only a single step forward...

It suddenly paused.

Pffff—!

’My na—’

Instinct screamed.

The creature instantly spun around, swinging its remaining arm toward the back of its neck to protect the exposed crystal.

It expected another human to exploit the opening.

Its attack hit nothing.

A blur of pale blue flashed beneath its arm.

Trisha.

She slipped underneath its guard with astonishing precision.

Her expression remained as cold as ever.

The crimson katana traced a perfect arc through the air.

Slash!

Both of the Aberrant’s remaining arms were severed cleanly from their shoulders.

Blue blood erupted like fountains.

Its exposed nape was left completely vulnerable.

"Wha—?!"

The word never left its mouth.

An entire volley of razor-sharp ice spikes filled its vision.

They descended like a frozen storm.

Without hesitation...

The Aberrant kicked violently against the ground.

BOOM!

Its colossal body launched backward.

The ice spikes slammed into the street where it had stood, covering the entire area in jagged pillars of ice.

The creature crashed back-first against a nearby building.

The entire structure groaned under the impact before beginning to lean dangerously.

Dust drifted through the air.

The ground beneath its feet suddenly trembled.

A strange vibration spread across the cracked street.

Instinctively...

The Aberrant glanced downward.

That single moment...

Was all Sergeant Lincoln needed.

By the time the creature lifted its head again...

Lincoln was already standing before it.

His expression was calm.

Both hands gripped an enormous earth-forged war hammer.

With a powerful roar...

He swung.

BOOOOOOM!

The hammer smashed diagonally across the Aberrant’s face.

The impact shook the entire street.

Windows shattered for dozens of metres.

The ground collapsed into a massive crater beneath Lincoln’s feet.

The towering creature was lifted completely off the ground before being hurled straight through the weakened building.

CRAAASH!

The entire structure collapsed upon it in a mountain of concrete and steel.

Silence lingered for only a second.

Then...

The rubble shifted.

Chunks of concrete were violently thrown aside.

The Aberrant slowly rose back to its feet.

Blood trickled from its split lips and battered face.

Despite everything...

It still refused to die.

But...

Pffffffffff—!

It reacted a fraction too late.

Trisha had already appeared behind it.

Her movements were silent.

Almost ghost-like.

Her katana shimmered with dense frost.

Crack!

Crack!

SHATTER!

The blade pierced straight into the exposed nape.

The ice-coated crystal surrounding its hidden heart instantly froze before exploding into countless glittering fragments.

Without slowing down...

The katana continued its path.

Cleanly slicing through the creature’s neck.

Its enormous head separated from its body.

The colossal corpse remained standing for a brief second before toppling forward with an earth-shaking crash.

Trisha didn’t spare it another glance.

Using the falling body as a foothold...

She kicked off gracefully.

Her icy gaze was already locked onto another Aberrant.

Leaping effortlessly from rooftop to rooftop...

She disappeared into the chaos of the battlefield in search of her next kill.
