Chapter 422

Without a moment’s hesitation, Jack and Orvak collided at the very center of the shelter.

Claws met axe with a thunderous clash.

BOOOOM!

The ground split apart beneath them.

The surrounding air rippled violently.

For a brief moment, they disengaged.

Each leaped backward, calmly studying the other.

A grin slowly spread across Orvak’s face.

Then—

He lunged.

From that moment onward...

The battle became nothing but a blur.

Had there been anyone left inside the shelter to witness it, they would have realized something terrifying.

Neither combatant was moving at a speed ordinary human eyes could hope to follow.

Only afterimages remained.

Along with the relentless clang of claws colliding against steel.

Jack moved with a speed that made teleportation seem slow.

Claws and axe collided in an endless storm of sparks.

Every impact shook the earth.

Every exchange sent violent shockwaves tearing through the air.

Missed strikes cleaved the atmosphere apart.

Buildings collapsed like towers of cards.

Neither of them remained in one place for more than a heartbeat.

They danced across the battlefield.

A deadly performance.

Sparks erupted with every collision.

To an outsider...

It looked less like a fight...

And more like two master dancers performing a lethal routine.

Unrelenting.

Unshaken.

Every movement of their hands, feet, and minds flowed together as one.

Both knew the truth.

One clean hit...

One single mistake...

Would end the battle.

Jack fought with flawless elegance.

His eyes never left Orvak’s body.

Every twitch.

Every shift in muscle.

Every microscopic movement.

Nothing escaped his attention.

His attacks were economical.

Precise.

Not a single movement was wasted.

Orvak, on the other hand...

Fought with refined savagery.

Every slash of his claws.

Every whip of his tail.

Every strike...

Existed for one purpose.

To kill.

Unlike most ability users, Jack hadn’t relied solely on the power he was born with.

Since the age of ten, he had trained relentlessly in the art of weapon combat.

Sword.

Spear.

Hammer.

Halberd.

He mastered every weapon he could find before finally discovering the one that perfectly complemented both his fighting style and his ability.

The axe.

Elegant...

Yet devastating.

Once again, Jack ducked beneath a sweeping tail before swinging his axe upward.

A dozen blazing white slashes burst from its edge.

Orvak instantly kicked backward before twisting his body in midair.

The attacks missed him by mere inches.

Jack didn’t stop.

He exploded forward.

His axe carved diagonally through the air.

Orvak pushed off the ground again, narrowly avoiding the strike.

The instant the attack missed...

The head of Jack’s axe erupted with blinding white light.

A condensed sphere of energy shot forward at breakneck speed.

This time...

Even Orvak was too slow.

BOOOOOM!

The sphere struck him head-on.

A deafening explosion echoed throughout the shelter.

The force blasted Orvak backward so violently that he tore through an entire building.

The upper half of the structure collapsed moments later.

Jack casually spun the axe once before stepping forward.

Then—

He vanished.

Determined to deny Orvak even a single second to recover.

His weapon trailed behind him as he vaulted over a pile of rubble.

Suddenly—

Every hair on the back of his neck stood on end.

"Have you forgotten?"

The voice came from directly behind him.

Jack’s pupils contracted.

He was still suspended in midair.

His axe already raised above his head.

"The more we’re injured..."

"...the stronger..."

"...and faster we become."

Orvak’s grin widened behind him.

WHOOOSH!

A vicious claw strike rocketed toward Jack’s back with terrifying speed.

Gritting his teeth, Jack spun around like a released arrow.

The claws grazed his side, tearing through his coat.

Fortunately...

His flesh remained untouched.

Kicking off the air several times, Jack retreated before landing effortlessly against the side of a nearby building as though gravity no longer applied to him.

Across from him, Orvak landed atop the pile of rubble Jack had vaulted from earlier.

The sinister grin never left the Aberrant’s face.

"Why aren’t you going all out?" Jack asked, raising a brow.

Orvak tilted his head.

"I’m not going all out, yet you’re already looking pale."

A chuckle escaped him.

"Who are you trying to impress? Me?"

Jack frowned slightly.

Resting the head of his axe toward the ground, he briefly glanced at the sky.

The sun still shone brightly overhead.

With the destruction of the massive mothership, nothing remained to block its light.

"Besides..." Orvak continued.

"You have no right to accuse me of holding back when you’re hiding your own cards."

Jack looked back at him.

"Hm?"

"Oh, don’t play dumb."

A grin widened across Orvak’s face.

"I know your family very well."

"I fought them once."

"So?"

"So..."

"I know exactly what the Kyre Family is capable of."

His yellow eyes narrowed.

"You’re still not using your true power."

"Why?"

"..."

Jack slowly spun the axe once before resting it upon his shoulder.

A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Wouldn’t it make for a better story..."

"...if I could brag about defeating a Six-Spined Aberrant..."

"...without even going all out?"

"Hm..."

Orvak nodded.

"I suppose I could say the same."

His grin widened.

"So then..."

"Let’s dance."

BOOOOOM!

The building behind Jack exploded apart as he launched forward.

For the briefest instant...

His figure remained visible.

Then—

He seemed to step through space itself.

Vanishing.

Only to reappear directly behind Orvak.

His colossal axe descended with enough force to cleave the Aberrant in two.

Yet...

Orvak never moved.

Blood continued dripping from the wound the earlier sphere had carved into his chest.

Without so much as turning around—

His tail lashed backward like a striking viper.

It shot straight toward Jack’s throat.

’Damn.’

Forced to abandon his attack, Jack shifted half a step backward while instinctively bringing his axe before him.

CLAAANG!

The sharpened tip of Orvak’s tail slammed into the back of the axe.

A violent shockwave rippled across the battlefield.

The earth trembled beneath them.

The instant the collision ended—

Orvak spun around violently.

His claws carved through the air toward Jack’s side.

Jack reacted immediately.

Launching backward, he narrowly escaped the slash.

Orvak only smirked.

Then...

He disappeared.

The moment Jack’s boots touched the ground over a dozen metres away—

Orvak materialized directly in front of him.

His claws were already halfway through their swing.

Jack bent low beneath them.

At the same time, he lifted his axe just high enough to intercept a crushing knee strike aimed at his face.

CLANG!

Steel met flesh with explosive force.

Before Orvak could withdraw—

Jack extended a single finger.

It lightly touched the Aberrant’s thigh.

A faint crackle echoed between them.

Then—

BOOOOM!

A condensed sphere of white light erupted at point-blank range.

Blue blood burst into the air as the attack tore into Orvak’s leg.
