Chapter 433
So far, the Aspirants were doing a wonderful job in the war.
Unfortunately, that was what this was called...
...A war.
And in war, there were bound to be casualties.
Though the enemy had lost far more men than they had expected from a bunch of Aspirants, humanity hadn’t come out without losses either.
So far, ten Aspirants had lost their lives.
Even though Ray was helping by giving them the locations of the Abberants’ hearts, they still had to deliver the finishing blow, and that wasn’t easy.
Especially with the fact that the more they injured them, the stronger and faster the creatures became.
They were simply a menace.
And they even had the height advantage over the puny humans.
Even though most of the Aspirants were solid this year and could hold their own against most foes, not everybody could become a Trisha, Kai, Caster, Berg, or even Ray, who had suddenly joined the top brass in terms of strength.
...A weak, poor brat who had been terribly injured by a weak Grade 2.4 Meta-human in the early days of their time in the Corps was now facing off against Abberants head-on without an ounce of fear.
How was he doing it?
Nobody had any idea.
Not like they could even check at the moment, as every single person was occupied with their own problems.
With time running out and the number of Abberants dwindling, Ray became more aggressive and active in the fight.
Even if it meant stealing kills, he was doing it.
Anything for the experience points and the chance of filling his counter.
He wanted to see the special reward the system would give him for this.
Whenever the reward was full of question marks, Ray was sure it would be something good.
As he was consumed by his selfish desires, the Aspirants who were in their near-death moments were thanking him for saving them.
They thought the boy was going from battle to battle to save his "comrades" from certain death.
They couldn’t have been farther from the truth.
They could all die for all he cared.
The reason he had even been relaying information about where the creatures’ hearts were was because, despite how strong he and his friends were, they couldn’t take down hundreds of Abberants alone.
They needed help.
So if the others could assist by stalling the Abberants or, miraculously, defeating them, Ray was content.
So far, twenty minutes had passed since the invasion began, and the number of Abberants had fallen from over two hundred to maybe a measly hundred.
And even still, Ray’s cohort wasn’t taking it easy.
They were going just as hard as they had from the start.
It was as if they had unlimited energy or stamina.
Ducking beneath a swing from an Abberant, Trisha’s eyes turned cold as she fired a dozen ice spikes toward the creature.
The attack forced it backward.
Trisha immediately moved.
She slipped beneath its arm and maneuvered around its side just as Ray’s message came through, revealing the location of its weakness.
With a precise swing of her sword, she cut into the creature’s lower back, tearing open the rocky flesh and revealing its heart.
Her sword plunged directly into it.
Whether their bodies were covered in steel or rocky armor, the One-Spined Abberants’ durability was no match for a King-rank weapon.
An Advanced-rank weapon could struggle against their durability.
But definitely not a King-rank weapon.
Trisha landed smoothly on the ground, sliding a few inches forward just as the creature’s body crashed into the earth behind her.
She dragged in ragged breaths and wiped her face with the back of her hand.
Crimson droplets rolled down her cheeks.
Her wrists were slashed, blood trickling down her arms.
But despite her injuries, they did little to diminish her cold beauty.
Kai sidestepped just in time as the Abberant’s fist crashed into the spot where he had been standing.
He immediately kicked off the ground.
Crystal spears formed in his hands as he danced between the creature’s heavy punches.
His face was covered in dust, with a few specks of blue blood mixed with his own.
Yet even with all that grime and blood covering him, he still looked almost...
...Radiant?
If Ray were here, he would have been biting his tongue again.
Or would he?
The Tribrid’s looks could rival even the handsome Legacy now.
Kai parried another heavy arm to the side before plunging his second spear forward.
The crystal weapon pierced the creature’s chest, sinking deep into its body.
Before the Abberant could counterattack—
CLAP!
Kai was suddenly nowhere to be seen.
Instead, Felix appeared in his place.
His feet swung forward, smashing into the butt of the crystal spear and sending it tearing deeper through the creature’s chest.
Even after that, the Abberant retaliated.
Its claws slashed through the air toward the Werewolf.
Felix vaulted off the spear.
His body twisted into a fierce spin before he unleashed a barrage of claw strikes toward the Abberant.
The creature took half a step backward before meeting the attacks with its own claws.
Claws collided.
Sparks flew.
"Nape."
The information came through.
Whoooosh!
An arrow tore through the air at tremendous speed, aimed directly at the back of the creature’s neck.
Pure instinct kicked in.
The Abberant lifted a hand behind its neck.
The arrow sank deep into its forearm.
Beep!
Beep!
Beep!
BOOOM!
The back of its hand exploded.
The creature released a pained roar as blue blood sprayed through the air.
Chloe could be seen standing atop a building, her bow still aimed downward.
With one hand extended, she seized control of a heavy vehicle.
The vehicle lifted off the ground.
Then—
WAM!
She hurled it forward.
The massive vehicle smashed into the Abberant’s head, forcing its body to bend forward.
And that was all the opening Trisha needed.
She descended from above in a beautiful, icy dance of steel.
Her sword flashed.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
The Abberant’s neck was torn open.
Trisha twisted her blade and drove it deeper.
The weapon ripped through the creature’s body and pierced its exposed heart.
Blue blood sprayed through the air as the Abberant’s towering body finally went limp.
