Chapter 435

The moment Drey gave the confirmation, Captain Jake and his Militants began rushing toward the building where the supplies were being stored, desperately trying to refill their gas cartridges in time.

Noticing the humans retreating for some reason, the Abberants assumed they were finally gaining the upper hand.

They were ready to pursue them when Drey launched into the air, his mechanical gun already poised toward one of the creatures.

He unleashed a barrage of shots.

The energy rounds struck the Abberant’s body as ice immediately began creeping over its neck like a spreading virus.

"Cover Captain Jake and his men!" Captain Drey shouted before firing several more precise shots at an approaching creature.

"You heard the Captain?! LET’S GO!"

The sound of guns blaring filled the battlefield as the Iron Corps members danced between deadly attacks while unleashing one shot after another.

Sliding beneath the legs of an Abberant, one of the Corps members dropped something on the ground before immediately jumping into a nearby building.

Beep!

Beep!

BEEEP!

BOOOM!

The grenade detonated with tremendous force, ripping chunks of flesh from the monster’s legs.

Laser beams hurtled down at the Abberants as the Iron Corps, led by Captain Drey, pushed forward with everything they had.

But even as they fought with all their might, the Abberants continued reaping human lives.

An Abberant lifted a hand in front of its face, swatting several shots aside before bolting forward with terrifying speed.

Its jaws opened wide.

Then—

SNAP!

Its teeth clamped down on a Militant.

Crimson sprayed into the air.

"Don’t falter!" Drey commanded as he kept his finger on the trigger, sending another volley of shots toward an Abberant.

But it seemed as though most of their attacks did little to the creatures aside from activating and strengthening their passive traits.

An Abberant lowered its head for a moment before swinging its massive arm forward.

BAM!

Two humans were smashed out of the air.

By the time the creature’s hand passed, only crimson smears and a rain of droplets remained.

Meanwhile, Jake and his crew had landed on the rooftop where the supplies were being delivered.

"Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Once you’ve switched your cartridges, get back to the battlefield!" Jake commanded, remaining with his men while occasionally glancing toward the ongoing battle.

Unlike the battle with the Aspirants or the Abberants at the Wall and Shelter, the force sent here was considerably smaller.

Where the others numbered in the hundreds—emphasis on the s—the force sent to protect the factory consisted of only a measly hundred men.

Yet somehow, they seemed even more ferocious.

So far, since the twenty-minute mark when the battle began, only about forty Abberants had lost their lives.

And it seemed as though the battle was drawing closer and closer to the factory.

Captain Jake had been trying to lure the creatures away from the food factory, but they were rapidly approaching.

It was only a matter of time before the factory fell.

Whether they lost a hundred men or whether every single one of them lost their lives, the war wouldn’t be over.

They would only lose the moment the factory fell.

That was their objective.

...Protect this place.

"Come on, come on! File out!" Jake barked as the sounds of gunshots and cannon fire grew increasingly intense.

...

Weaving to the side just in time, Drey landed on the roof of a building.

BOOM!

An Abberant came crashing through the structure, sending the entire building crumbling around him.

Shards of glass sliced across Drey’s cheek, drawing blood.

His AK-47 was out of reach.

Quickly sliding his hand downward, Drey pulled out a pistol and rained down shells on the creature, forcing it to stay back.

The Captain landed on the ground.

He began running in a zigzag motion with his pistol poised upward, ready to fire at a moment’s notice.

Leaping from side to side, the man occasionally avoided tail strikes that came hammering towards him with enough force to shatter buildings.

One by one, Jake’s men began rushing forward after refilling their gas cartridges.

The battle was tilting towards neither side.

It was as if the battle here had reached a complete standstill.

Even still, they all fought with vigor.

POW! POW! POW!

Drey unleashed four precise shots into the leg of an Abberant, causing it to collapse onto its knees.

Sprinting forward, Drey grabbed a destroyed building support beam.

He spun it around for a moment before bashing it into the jaw of the creature, sending its head flinging backward.

Vaulting into the air, Drey reached out for his mechanical AK before firing two laser beams directly into the creature’s eyes.

The beams tore through its retinas before reaching its brain and melting it from the inside out.

"Haaaa.... Haaa...."

The man panted heavily but still didn’t stop.

Landing on the head of the dead creature, he pushed off again, cutting through the air almost like an arrow.

Tilting to the side, he saw an open palm reaching out for him.

Two shots sent the arm jerking backward, giving one of Jake’s men enough time to send a dozen earth spikes ripping through the limb.

They then proceeded to keep the creature at bay.

Landing on a pile of rubble, Drey’s eyes flickered across the battlefield for a second.

Then he lunged forward again.

Refusing to give his body even a moment of rest.

’Jake has always been looked down upon for a while amongst all the Captains. But it’s amazing how he managed to hold his own with such little men for dozens of minutes. And I just arrived about five minutes ago, yet I’m being overwhelmed here. Damn.’

Kicking off a building, Drey was about to shoot down another Abberant when his gaze suddenly sharpened in horror.

Snapping his head to the side, he saw another Abberant with its mouth wide open, ready to bite him out of the air.

He was too slow to react.

He had been focused on taking out the one in front of him and hadn’t noticed the other one coming from his blind spot.

Just inches....

.... Inches away from being torn in two—

A loud screeching sound suddenly rang out from above.

BAM! WAM!

An earth pillar crashed into the creature’s head with thunderous force, and within a second, it was ploughed into the ground.

Dust billowed into the air.

A shockwave blasted in all directions, almost knocking Drey out of the air.

But the Captain was quick enough to regain his balance and land smoothly.

His eyes widened slightly as he looked ahead.

Captain Jake was walking out of the dust, his longsword dripping with fresh blue blood.

"Thanks for the cover."

Jake gave him a brief nod.

"Don’t mention it. We still have a factory to protect."

Drey glanced around the battlefield.

The chaos hadn’t stopped.

Gunfire continued to thunder through the streets.

Abberants roared as they tore through buildings, while the Iron Corps and Aspirants desperately fought to keep them away from the factory.

Drey tightened his grip around his weapon.

"Then let’s finish this."

Jake’s lips curled into a faint grin.

"Now you’re talking."

The two Captains turned towards the battlefield.

And without wasting another second, they charged back into the fray.
