Chapter 439
"I swear, I will kill you for making us late if the invasion is over!"
A young woman could be seen barking at a young man who was tinkering with his camera.
His hands trembled slightly at the threat from the beautiful woman.
She wore a tight-fitting pair of pants and a shirt that accentuated her curves.
Even though she was dressed professionally, she still looked seductive, especially with her beautiful cat-like eyes and brown hair that cascaded down to the back of her neck.
She held a microphone in one hand.
Behind them, the sound of blades slicing through the air could be heard.
It was obvious that they were inside a helicopter, moving toward the battlefield where the Aspirants were fighting.
And judging by their current position, they were almost there.
Quickly placing the camera onto its stand, the young man swiftly put on a pair of transparent glasses.
To anybody else, the white-tinted lenses looked completely plain.
But through the man’s eyes, they displayed something entirely different.
The battlefield.
Click.
He tapped the glove on his hand.
Immediately, four drones rushed out of the helicopter.
The moment they spread out, his vision changed.
The glasses connected to the drones, allowing him to see the battlefield from multiple angles at once.
Below them, chaos stretched across the city.
Buildings had been reduced to rubble.
Smoke rose into the sky.
Blue blood stained the streets.
And towering Abberants continued to clash with humanity’s young warriors.
Johnny turned on the hand camera.
He waited a few seconds.
Then he gave the young woman a thumbs-up.
’It seems the battle is still ongoing. Good.’
Bonny immediately raised the microphone.
"Good afternoon, beautiful people of Alcatraz. It’s me again, Bonny Green, and I’m with my cameraman, Johnny Crimes. We are here live, bringing you the reports of the invasion."
Johnny nodded while observing the battlefield through his glasses.
Every single person in Alcatraz—from Wall Steel to Wall Diamond—was tuned into the same channel.
The only livestreaming news channel that actively traveled from planet to planet to show humanity the war.
The other channels were simply too afraid to take the risk.
Why would they fly directly into an active battlefield?
For what?
Ratings?
Money?
Bonny’s channel was different.
It was the only one consistently giving the people what they wanted.
And today, they were here once again to show humanity the events unfolding before them.
Unfortunately, they had no idea where the other battlefield was.
So they couldn’t cover it.
For now, they were stuck with the Aspirants’ battle.
".... As you can all see, the future warriors of tomorrow are putting their lives at stake to stop this invasion. It’s not an easy feat, and judging by the number of corpses I can see, it seems these kids are strong enough to hold their own."
Bonny paused briefly.
"Humanity still has hope, guys."
Johnny’s drones panned across the battlefield.
He carefully controlled their movements, making sure they didn’t get too close to the towering Abberants.
One wrong move could cost him one of his precious drones.
Still, he kept them close enough to capture clear images of the battle.
The drones swept across the battlefield.
They captured the exhausted faces of the Aspirants.
The towering bodies of the Abberants.
The destruction surrounding them.
And the countless corpses scattered across the battlefield.
Soon, comments from the viewers began flooding in.
Johnny’s eyes immediately flickered toward them.
[Viewer 123: Damn. These kids look tired. How long has this been going on?]
[Bonny’s Lover: Forget how tired they look. Can you count how many of these dead Abberants there are? I count fifty.]
[Jimmy_Parker: And yet look how many are left. Over fifty. Shoot! I don’t know about you all, but these kids are brave as hell. I can’t do this even if I was paid a million credits.]
[Proud Hater: What’s with all the dick riding? These folks are all so weak. What the hell are they doing? Look at that foolish blue-haired girl. That’s not how you stick a sword.
Oh gosh. Who sends an arrow in such a direction? Damn, these kids are all amateurs.]
[Viewer 123: As if you could do any better.]
....
The comments continued pouring in.
At the same time, the viewer count kept rising higher and higher.
A widened smile slowly spread across Johnny’s face.
Being an independent livestreaming duo wasn’t as easy as people thought.
It had taken a lot to get where they were today.
There had been countless obstacles they needed to overcome.
Initially, they had worked for a powerful news station.
But the station had vehemently refused to let them cover anything related to the war.
The owners’ words had been simple.
They had said:
"If you die, where the hell am I going to get a news anchor as beautiful as you are? In case you don’t know, it’s because of your beauty that you’re this famous. And you—if you die, where will I get a good tech guru as good as you are?"
Bonny had pushed as hard as she could.
She kept arguing that the people needed to see what they were fighting against.
"The people need to see what they are kicking against."
That was what she kept saying.
The man refused for months.
He wouldn’t budge.
Until Bonny had enough.
She called it quits.
Resigning from the station, she walked away from the job.
To Johnny’s own surprise, he followed her out.
For some reason best known to him.
Gathering the funds they had saved from working at their previous job, the two managed to set up their own independent livestreaming outlet.
With Johnny’s small amount of technological knowledge, they were able to figure out a way to get paid doing what they loved.
And with Bonny’s beauty, it didn’t take long for them to pull more than half of the viewers from her previous job back to her.
After all, just like their former boss had said, the viewers weren’t only there for the news.
They were there for her beauty too.
So wherever Bonny went, they followed.
Like lapdogs.
"Hang on. What do I see there?" Bonny exclaimed into her microphone.
Johnny immediately reacted.
He zoomed in on one of his drones.
The image sharpened.
And soon—
Ray could be seen charging across the rooftops.
He was heading toward the area where Lincoln was battling the Two-Spined Abberants alone.
So far, Lincoln had taken down three of them by himself.
But now, he was beginning to get overwhelmed.
Injuries were accumulating across his body.
Blood stained his clothes.
And the Abberants weren’t giving him even a moment to recover.
Instead of sending themselves at him one after another, the creatures had changed their approach.
Three at a time.
They refused to give the Sergeant even a second of breathing room.
Now—
Lincoln was in deep trouble.
A claw came from the side.
He parried it away.
Another came from above.
Lincoln vaulted backward.
Then—
BOOM!
A massive foot stomped down on his position.
The ground quaked.
Lincoln tumbled backward, barely keeping himself upright.
He had no time to recover.
Another foot was already shooting toward his head at an astonishing speed.
Lincoln’s eyes widened.
He couldn’t dodge in time.
At the last possible second—
A golden lasso shot forward.
It wrapped tightly around the Abberant’s foot.
The massive limb suddenly halted.
Only a few inches from Lincoln’s face.
A gust of wind brushed across his skin from the sheer force behind the halted attack.
Then—
BANG!
Something.
Someone.
Shot past in a blur.
The figure leaped into the air without hesitation.
His fist drew backward.
Then—
BOOOOM!
His fist slammed directly into the face of the Two-Spined Abberant.
A violent kinetic discharge erupted from the impact.
The creature’s head was blown apart.
Its massive body was lifted completely off the ground and hurled backward.
It crashed into another Abberant.
The two towering creatures went tumbling together.
