Chapter 465
"You will die."
"....?!"
"Wha—What?!" Ray asked in a quiet voice as he looked at the man across from him.
Raze didn’t rush to reply as he instead studied the boy some more before letting out a sigh.
"Well, that’s what humanity wants. They want you to be publicly executed because you are a threat they don’t want to face right now.
I mean, you should understand, though. We are at war at the moment, and we can’t be worrying and looking over our backs and wondering when you will stab us in the back. We just can’t have that now."
Ray looked at the man for a few seconds before shaking his head with a little chuckle.
"Too bad for you all, it’s not time for me to die yet."
"Hm? What makes you so sure?"
Ray smirked.
"I can’t die yet till I have completed my aim."
"Which is?"
"To vanquish this world, this galaxy of all Abberants. Till I slay each and every single one of these Abberants, I won’t die. I will make sure they pay for all I have suffered.
Even if it means becoming public enemy number one or a threat in the eyes of those cowards at home, I will be. I will make sure I kill all Abberants and only then will I die peacefully."
The corner of Raze’s lips twitched for a moment as he looked deep into Ray’s grey eyes to see the stern conviction and determination hidden within them.
"You really hate them, huh?"
Ray didn’t give a reply as if the answer was glaringly obvious.
He turned his head to the side.
Raze let out another sigh.
"You do know that you are hated and feared across both remaining walls, right? I read the comments on the news daily, and millions are calling for your death.
If—IF you were saved and not killed, how will you safely accomplish your goals without worrying about being stabbed in the back?"
Without looking at the man, Ray opened his mouth.
"Even the Big Four Legacies, as great as they are, are hated by some and if the opportunity presents itself, these people would kill them and take over their position. So who am I again?"
Raze was about to reply when Ray cut him off.
"... Besides, if I wanted to worry about what those keyboard warriors thought about me, I would have worn a skirt and danced around the street instead of joining the Corps and potentially revealing what I can do in front of them all.
I did what I did to save my friends and I don’t regret a bit of it."
Turning to look at Raze, Ray’s eyes slanted dangerously with lightning crackling within their depths.
"... If I go back in time right now, knowing what will happen if I reveal my secret, I will still reveal it without a second thought. My friends are important and so are their lives.
I don’t give two cents about a bunch of strangers who don’t know my history. All I care about are my loved ones, and I won’t let those blasted ape creatures take my loved ones from me again."
"....."
"...!!!"
The corner of the Captain’s lips twitched into a small, knowing smile as he looked at the boy.
Something stirred within the man’s chest, but he didn’t allow it to show at all.
"You really hate the Abberants with passion, huh?"
"And so do you. We all do."
A minute later, Ray’s eyes lit up.
"My—My friends. How are they?"
"..."
Raze shrugged.
"They are definitely not being held in a cell, and they are being fed, but some refuse to eat for obvious reasons. They all eagerly await what decision will be made concerning you."
Ray lifted a brow.
"For the past how many weeks, how has a decision not been made yet?"
Raze cocked his shoulders.
"Do I know? I just came back after three weeks because we got a report that Abberants were sighted on a planet, so we went to take care of them. Though...."
"Though what?"
Raze smiled and stood up from the chair while rubbing his neck.
"Something has been decided. A way to determine what to do with you."
Ray’s heart skipped a beat once before immediately calming down as he tried his best to maintain his composure while looking at the Captain standing before him.
"Yeah? What is it?"
Raze paused for a few seconds before turning his back to the boy.
"In a week, you will be tried in front of the Commander and the jury to determine if you are going to be a threat to humanity or not. This trial will be broadcast live to humanity.
"If it is determined that you aren’t a threat, you will be set free."
"And if I was a threat?"
"...."
Raze turned his head around to look at the boy for a second before heaving another sigh.
"For your sake, I hope it doesn’t come to that. Otherwise, there are some new scientists that want to run their hands through some experiments here and there."
Without saying anything more, Raze began walking towards the door.
"I didn’t know that you hadn’t been fed in three weeks. I will send someone now. Kindly don’t attack them, otherwise you will be executed on the spot without any trial whatsoever."
Ray stared at the Captain’s back before a low growl escaped his throat.
"I won’t be dying. I will make sure of that. And I will get into the Vanguard Order in order to slay all Abberants. Mark my words!"
Raze paused in front of the door and knocked on it thrice.
Tak. Tak. Tak.
The sound of locks shifting could be heard from the other side before the door slowly began opening.
A small smile rested on the man’s face.
But as he turned to look in Ray’s direction, the smile was wiped off.
"For your sake, I hope you do survive."
Raze stared at Ray for several seconds.
"You have good friends, Ray Dawson. They impatiently await your return and have been doing everything in their strength to get you back safely.
"But the same way you have good friends, you have a lot of enemies who are about exploiting this in order to get rid of you. I wish you the best of luck in this coming week."
And with that, Raze stepped out of the room.
The door began closing behind him, slowly sealing Ray inside the darkness once more.
For several seconds, Ray remained silent.
Then—
**THUD!**
The door slammed shut.
Darkness swallowed the room once more.
