Yuri’s body vanished and appeared behind Daisy. With a quick flash of her katana, the hands of an Eidolon reaching for the top of the weapon were severed. The creature roared as it fell backwards, clutching the remains of its arms before disappearing beneath the mass of Eidolons climbing after it.
"A word of advice, Daisy... Don’t think about the future, because it looks really bleak from where we’re standing right now."
Daisy’s face twitched.
She looked towards the edges of the siege weapon.
The Eidolons had finally managed to climb over from behind the massive structure, and now they were charging recklessly towards them. There were so many that several creatures actually fell from the weapon before even reaching the two women, tumbling into the battlefield below.
Daisy looked at Yuri and smiled innocently.
"You go low, I go high."
Yuri’s expression remained the same bland, almost emotionless look. She didn’t bother responding. Her body suddenly flashed high into the air before she came crashing down with a massive surge of energy.
Lightning spread across the surface of the weapon.
The invisible current passed through the Eidolons’ bodies, stunning them for a brief moment as their muscles locked up. Yuri didn’t waste the opportunity. Her body blitzed through the frozen creatures, her katana flashing repeatedly as she tore through the formation.
Dozens of Eidolons fell from the weapon.
Some crashed onto the battlefield below, while others remained motionless on the structure, their bodies smoking from the electrical energy that had passed through them.
Daisy stared for a moment.
"All these top dogs are such show-offs".
She suddenly moved as well.
Her weapon followed the movement of her arms, the chain whipping through the air before the dagger carved through the nearest Eidolon’s neck. Daisy immediately changed direction, removing her weight as she shot sideways through the air and avoided another creature’s claws by barely a few inches.
She didn’t try to overpower them.
Every time an Eidolon approached, Daisy changed direction before it could make direct contact. She swung around the Eidolon’s, used her chain to alter her momentum, and struck whenever an opening appeared.
Unlike the high-level Dormant-ranked Awakened, Daisy didn’t possess overwhelming physical strength or durability. If one of the Eidolons managed to grab her, there was no guarantee she would survive the encounter.
But she didn’t need overwhelming power.
She simply needed to stay out of their reach.
And with Light Feather allowing her to move through the air, Daisy was proving that she could be extremely difficult to pin down.
...
Andrea looked away from Daisy and Yuri and towards the battlefield ahead. The Divine Priest and another unusually large Eidolon were approaching at breakneck speed, their massive bodies tearing through the snow as they closed the distance between them.
Andrea frowned lightly as she watched them approach.
"How is the Chief able to grant another Eidolon the blessing of his Dominion? The Divine Priest isn’t dead yet."
Andrea didn’t understand what had happened. What she failed to realize was that the Divine Priest had been cut off from the Chief the moment he consumed the flesh of the Storm Blizzard God. From that moment onward, his power and intelligence had become independent of the Chief, even though neither Andrea nor the other humans had any way of knowing that.
The ground exploded as the two Eidolons landed before her, sending snow and debris outward from the force of their arrival.
The Divine Priest immediately raised his hands and pointed towards Andrea, but before he could say anything, the new Eidolon Priest stepped forward.
"I am the Priest chosen to serve, and I am here to bring about your end."
The Divine Priest glared at the back of his head. He snorted and looked away, one of his loose, broken antlers swaying slightly from side to side.
Andrea raised a brow at the exchange. Then, a brilliant smile suddenly spread across her face, she lowered her head slightly in the Divine Priest’s direction.
"Oh my, you got a demotion. Should we have gone easy on you?".
The Divine Priest’s expression immediately darkened.
"My transformation was barely complete when you two ambushed me. Let’s go again, just me and you. Then we’ll know who’s truly superior."
Andrea chuckled lightly.
To the new Eidolon Priest, however, her laughter only made his already fragile self-esteem sink further. He hated how completely they were ignoring him, as though he wasn’t even standing there.
He was the Priest chosen by the Chief.
He was the right-hand man of the Eidolon Chief, the overlord of the Ruins of Humanity and ruler of the Eidolon race. Yet these two humans were treating him as though he didn’t even exist, they were more interested in settling their own dispute than acknowledging his presence.
He couldn’t stand it.
The new Priest suddenly roared angrily and pulled out his weapon. It was a giant cleaver, clearly forged by humans, with several runes engraved across its massive blade.
Andrea wasn’t sure where he had gotten it, but she didn’t care either.
Just as the new Eidolon Priest was about to attack, the Divine Priest suddenly reached out and grabbed his shoulder.
"Wait."
The new Priest immediately turned towards him, his expression twisting with anger.
"What!"
The Divine Priest felt helpless.
He hated the new Eidolon Priest, especially after being forced to serve beneath him, but he couldn’t simply allow him to throw his life away. They still needed to win the war.
Worse, the Divine Priest had already lost his ability to command and control the lower-ranking Eidolons. Whatever authority he once possessed through Dominion was gone, and there was little he could do to compensate for it.
He leaned towards the new Priest slightly, lowering his voice.
"Don’t let the smelly ape’s looks fool you. She’s dangerously strong."
The new Eidolon Priest immediately shrugged his hand off and snorted condescendingly.
"You think I’m as weak as you? The Chief has given me power beyond your understanding. This pesky little creature is far beneath me."
The Divine Priest’s expression darkened, but he didn’t argue further.
Andrea wasn’t in any rush.
She simply stood there and watched the two Eidolons argue over who would have the privilege of fighting her, her expression becoming increasingly amused as the new Priest’s arrogance continued to grow.
