The surrounding Eidolons looked at one another, then slowly turned their attention back towards Ryan. The human was still lying half-conscious on the frozen ground, blood covering his body as he struggled just to remain awake. His breathing was heavy and uneven, and one of his arms trembled slightly as he tried to push himself up.

Then several of them took a shaky step forward.

The sight of Ryan bleeding and barely able to stand had erased whatever fear they once had of approaching him. They had watched him fight the Chief, they had seen him send their ruler crashing through the battlefield.

But now he was vulnerable.

The Eidolons suddenly rushed forward together, their bodies bouncing across the snow as they prepared to tear the weakened human apart.

"Get backkkk! He is mine!"

The Eidolon Chief’s roar exploded across the battlefield.

The entire horde froze in place, with several Eidolons immediately stopping in their tracks, while others stumbled backwards in fear. None of them dared question the Chief. They quickly scattered away from Ryan, leaving the wounded human alone in the snow.

The Chief descended beside him a moment later.

The sheer force of his movement sent a violent gust through the area, kicking up snow and loose chunks of ice. Ryan’s already battered body was pushed even farther across the ground before finally coming to a stop.

The Chief slowly straightened his enormous body, his shadow completely covering Ryan.

He stepped forward, each heavy foot sinking into the fractured ice as his eyes narrowed on the bleeding human. There was no rush in his movements anymore. Ryan was already down, and the Chief clearly believed there was no longer any reason to hurry.

He looked down at him with open contempt.

"What did you think you were going to achieve with your measly strength?" All of you combined cannot best me."

The Chief tightened his grip around his enormous axe, the weapon resting against his shoulder as he stared down at Ryan.

"Not even the wretch that turned my dead against me, not even the wench that schemed against me... I am the overlord of this region."

The Chief’s eyes burned with pride as he looked over the battlefield and the humans fighting within it.

"And you pesky creatures will never have my city."

Ryan suddenly kicked at the Chief’s leg and used the force to slide away from him. He kicked off the ground and forced himself back onto his feet, his battered body still carrying the injuries from the previous exchange.

The Chief was already before him, swinging his axe down, but Ryan was also quick. He moved out of the way at the nick of time, the massive axe tearing through the ice beside him, and immediately swung towards the Chief’s side once again.

But the enormous body of the Chief actually turned in time and caught his fist.

The impact was tremendous.

A shockwave blasted the ice away from the ground and sent a strong tremor through Ryan’s body. His arm shook violently from the force of the collision, but he didn’t pull it back. The Chief’s massive hand remained wrapped around his fist, the difference in their size almost ridiculous.

Ryan’s eyes were bloodshot as he stared straight into the Chief’s goat-like irises.

"You rage and you prance about, acting like you’re invincible, but so fucking what? Even if I can’t beat you, then so fucking what? Even if I die here, then bloody what exactly? You will still lose this fight, and your race will perish on this battlefield... Because if there’s one thing we humans are good at, it’s killing shit."

Ryan punched out with his other hand.

He put the full force of his powerful physical body behind the attack, his muscles tightening as every ounce of strength he had left was poured into the blow. His bones creaked and cracked under the strain, but the force was enough to finally break through the Chief’s defense.

The Eidolon Chief was sent flying.

The massive creature roared as his body was thrown backwards, but even before he landed on the ground, he raised his axe and prepared to swing again.

Ryan was faster than he expected.

He closed the distance before the Chief could recover and drove another punch directly into his chest.

The impact was monstrous.

The Chief’s chest actually caved inward as his enormous body was sent flying backwards once again.

Ryan was relentless. He didn’t even bother evading anymore. He simply kept up with the Chief and punched like a madman, each blow forcing the enormous Eidolon farther through the cold air. His fists continued crashing into the Chief’s body without giving him enough time to properly recover, and Ryan followed every time the Chief was thrown back.

The Chief had enough.

He violently twisted his enormous body, the wind following his movement like a tornado as his sheer brute strength suddenly changed his trajectory. Instead of continuing backwards, his massive frame turned in midair and forced itself back towards Ryan.

His enormous legs crashed into the ground, creating a small crater beneath his feet as the ice fractured around him. The Chief barely had time to steady himself before Ryan was already coming at him again.

His axe fell at the exact moment Ryan attacked, Ryan’s small fist collided directly with the massive axe.

The impact was beyond brutal for Ryan’s small human body, his physical strength had always been comparable to Andrea’s, making him one of the most powerful Dormant-ranked Awakened in the quest. But regardless of how powerful he was, there was a limit to what his body could withstand.

The axe completely overwhelmed his punch.

Ryan was sent flying like a shooting star, his body disappearing into the distance as the bones in his hand shattered from the impact. Several broken fragments forced their way through his flesh, stabbing outward through his skin as blood sprayed into the cold air.

Ryan violently coughed up blood as his vision instantly went black.
