The Eidolon Chief looked down at his new Priest with disgust. Before the Priest could even speak, the Chief kicked him.
It looked like an ordinary kick, but the force behind it was enough to send the massive Eidolon flying across the snow.
The Priest crashed heavily into the frozen ground before forcing himself back onto his feet. Blood covered his face, and his body trembled from the beating he had just received.
"Chief, please show mercy."
The Chief sighed helplessly.
"Go focus on commanding the army. I will deal with the invaders."
The New Eidolon Priest lowered his head, swallowing his pride as he struggled to stand properly.
The Chief looked away from him.
He knew the New Eidolon Priest was nowhere near powerful enough to face the humans. At this point, even an ordinary human could probably kill him within a few moves.
...
"Don’t you dare drop me!"
Yuri snapped at Daisy as she hung loosely from the end of her thin chain. A short burst of electricity travelled through the chain and entered Daisy’s body, causing her entire body to jolt.
She yelped in pain.
"Watch it, zappy."
At this very moment, Daisy was at the very top of the overrun siege weapon, while her chain was attached to Yuri’s waist. She was desperately holding on, using the chain to keep herself from being dragged down by the Eidolons beneath them.
It was a horrifying sight.
Hundreds of Eidolons rushed towards them from every direction, completely covering the massive weapon. Their bodies crawled over one another as they climbed higher, claws scraping against the ancient structure as they tried to reach the two women.
Yuri’s position was especially dangerous.
She was hanging above the weapon with nothing beneath her except the endless mass of Eidolons. If the chain snapped, she would fall directly into the horde.
Yuri’s eyes suddenly flashed.
She twisted her body, loosening the chain around her waist before grabbing it with her free hand. Using the momentum of her movement, she swung around the nearest Eidolon, her body passing around the creature as she used the chain to carry herself through the crowded battlefield.
The Eidolon tried to reach for her, but Yuri had already moved beyond its grasp.
Daisy grunted as she held onto the chain, her arms tightening as Yuri continued moving.
She knew one mistake from her was all it would take.
If she lost her grip, Yuri would be dragged down with her.
And with hundreds of Eidolons surrounding them, there would be no second chance.
Yuri suddenly threw her blade.
The weapon shot away from her hand, but instead of continuing in a straight line, it suddenly changed direction. Yuri activated her Dormant Ability, using the electricity to control the movement of the blade as it curved around the massive siege weapon.
What followed was a spectacle.
The blade moved around the entire structure, cutting through the Eidolons that had completely overrun it. Dozens of creatures were struck down as the weapon passed through them, its path constantly changing as Yuri guided it around the siege weapon. The blade eventually completed its arc and returned directly towards her hand.
Yuri caught it without hesitation.
She immediately used the opening she had created to move, landing somewhere closer to the bottom of the siege weapon.
Daisy’s eyes lit up. She suddenly remembered that she could do something similar.
In fact, hers was even more precise.
The moment Yuri released the chain, it immediately began moving through the air like a snake. The dagger attached to its end acted as its head, constantly changing direction as Daisy controlled its movement.
The chain swept through the surrounding Eidolons.
The dagger pierced through their bodies, punching holes through their flesh before continuing forward. Some of the creatures were left hanging from the chain, their bodies being dragged along as though they were nothing more than grotesque puppets.
Daisy continued controlling the weapon, using the chain to carve through the Eidolons surrounding them while keeping herself out of their reach.
Yuri wasn’t risking her life for nothing.
She had already realised that the only way they were going to make it out of there in time was by activating the siege weapon itself and using its immense power to blast open the thick Eidolon formation surrounding them.
She quickly fought her way towards what she believed was the activation panel, but when she finally reached the location, her expression quickly soured.
It wasn’t really a panel, there were no buttons, switches, or controls of any kind. Instead, there was only a string of runes glowing faintly across the surface of the ancient weapon.
"Where’s Hannah when you need her?"
Yuri began tapping randomly across the runes, hoping that one of them would somehow activate the weapon. None of them responded immediately, but the siege weapon certainly reacted to her attempts.
All the runes covering its massive body suddenly became brightly lit.
A faint tremor travelled through the structure, causing the ancient weapon to shake beneath Yuri’s feet. Then the temperature around it began rising drastically, the cold air surrounding the weapon becoming noticeably warmer within moments.
The Eidolons nearby immediately noticed the change.
They roared in rage and attacked simultaneously, their massive bodies rushing towards Yuri from several directions.
Yuri had no choice but to run.
She jumped away from the approaching Eidolons, narrowly avoiding their claws as they crashed into the place where she had been standing.
Before she could land properly, Daisy’s chain suddenly shot towards her.
Yuri grabbed it. Daisy immediately pulled, using the chain to drag Yuri back towards the top of the siege weapon.
"No luck!" Daisy yelled.
Yuri’s breathing was noticeably heavier after the sudden rush.
"I can’t operate the weapon."
Daisy stared down at her.
"Did you try pressing all the buttons?"
Yuri’s expression remained completely blank.
"Yes, Daisy. I tried pressing all the buttons."
Daisy’s muscles bulged as she lifted Yuri higher into the sky, saving her from becoming Eidolon food. She desperately searched for an opening for their next attack, but the Eidolons had once again covered every square inch of the weapon and the ground around it.
There was barely any space left to move.
Yuri suddenly noticed something strange.
"I think the weapon is doing something."
"Huh?"
Daisy narrowed her eyes as she looked over the massive structure. She had noticed something as well, but it wasn’t the appearance of a concentrated beam of energy or any sign that the weapon was preparing to fire.
Her expression suddenly changed.
"Yeah, it’s moving. Why is it moving?"
Daisy was right to be worried.
The enormous siege weapon had begun shifting across the frozen ground, its massive structure slowly moving in the direction of Malik and Camila. The ancient weapon groaned as it advanced, crushing Eidolons beneath its enormous base as the creatures desperately tried to get out of its path.
Daisy’s eyes widened.
If nothing was done to stop it, the weapon was going to reach Malik and Camila.
Yuri looked up at Daisy.
"Throw me towards Malik and Camila."
"Okay, hold on tight."
Yuri raised a brow.
"You didn’t hesitate for even a second there."
Daisy shrugged.
"Do you want me to throw you or not? I’m not exactly built like a mammoth like the rest of you."
Daisy wasn’t wrong. She was severely lacking in physical prowess, even more so than Damien, who complained heavily about his own lack of physical strength.
The difference was that Damien was already superior to the majority of the Dormant-ranked Awakened in the Tower of Mysteries. He simply had the unfortunate habit of comparing himself to high-level monstrosities, which made his own strength seem insignificant in comparison.
Daisy rotated her thin chain rapidly, building momentum before suddenly releasing it.
Yuri’s body was flung through the air towards Malik and Camila.
Below them, Camila had formed a barricade around herself and Malik using the weapons of the surrounding Eidolons. The barricade itself wasn’t particularly strong, since much of it was made from wood, but the iron spikes attached to the clubs were what Camila had manipulated, reinforcing the structure and making the makeshift barricade considerably stronger.
Malik remained crouched down on the snow behind it.
Whenever the barricade shook from another impact, his head immediately snapped around, his eyes searching frantically for whatever had caused it.
Camila continued watching him, waiting for any sign that his ability had finally activated.
"Anything yet?" she yelled in his direction.
"No, not yet. I still need a little more time."
Camila cursed inwardly.
Then she noticed something in the distance.
A small figure was growing larger in her field of vision, rapidly approaching their position. Electricity crackled faintly around the figure as it moved through the air.
Camila’s eyes widened.
It was the same person she had helped reach the siege weapon. What was she doing back here?
Camila now really wanted to curse out loud.
Yuri landed gracefully beside her, seemingly unconcerned by the roaring Eidolons outside the barricade. She raised one finger and pointed towards the direction she had come from.
Daisy followed her finger. Her expression changed immediately, this time, she said it plainly.
"Fuck me."
