"Dieeee... Everybody diesss!"
Andrea cut down the nearest Eidolon, but the sound of the siege weapon activating immediately drew her attention. Just as she was about to dash forward, the Chief’s giant axe came crashing down in front of her, forcing her to stop.
"You look like you were hit by a bus."
The Chief didn’t know what she meant, nor did he know what a bus was. But with these creatures, he’d learned to assume the worst.
His expression darkened as he stepped towards her, his towering body making her look like a doll in comparison. He tightened his grip around the enormous axe and raised it towards her.
"Look around you. You have lost this fight, and now... you will lose your life as well."
Andrea almost snickered.
"Why is it that the ones bound to lose always make the most ridiculous threats?"
She glanced past him towards the powering-up siege weapon. Yuri, Camila, Daisy, and Malik were already trying to make their escape, but the Chief had positioned himself directly between Andrea and them.
She closed her eyes for a moment before once more looking up at the Chief.
"You’re too tall."
The Chief’s brows rose and fell. He clearly didn’t understand what she meant, but he didn’t bother asking.
His axe suddenly came crashing down.
The attack was so powerful that the ground beneath Andrea exploded on impact. Ice was blasted into the air, covering her small figure as the force of the attack tore apart the frozen ground around her.
The Chief’s enormous body remained completely still as he held his axe down. When the mist faded, Andrea was still there.
Her small body had taken the brunt of the attack, but regardless of the force behind it, the Chief couldn’t push her back even an inch. She stood her ground beneath the enormous weapon, her blade locked against his axe as the two weapons continued grinding against one another.
Sparks flew from the collision, several of them landed against Andrea’s face.
"Huh." The Chief snorted and pulled his axe back.
He struck again almost immediately. This time, the attack was a sweeping move, the enormous axe cutting across the space in front of him with enough force to send anything caught in its path flying.
Andrea kept her cool.
She positioned herself carefully and brought her blade against the incoming weapon once again.
The collision was violent.
Unlike the first exchange, however, Andrea couldn’t completely resist the force behind the Chief’s sweeping attack. Her small body was launched backwards, flying through the air at breakneck speed as the force of the impact carried her away from him.
But Andrea wasn’t panicking.
She twisted her waist and turned herself around, allowing her to see exactly where she was heading. Her eyes immediately landed on Yuri and the others. That was where she needed to go.
The Chief had unknowingly given her the momentum she needed.
Andrea adjusted her body in midair, using the force of the Chief’s attack to redirect herself towards the others rather than simply being thrown away. Her body cut through the cold air as she twisted herself around, keeping her eyes fixed on the siege weapon in the distance.
The Chief watched her escape his attack, and his expression darkened even further, he was beyond enraged. So without hesitation, he threw his axe forward with all his might.
The enormous weapon spun violently through the air, its massive blade cutting through the battlefield with unparalleled speed. The Chief had thrown it at Andrea, but the axe passed just beside her, missing her body by a narrow margin.
Andrea’s heart went cold as axe didn’t stop.
It continued tearing through everything in its path, cutting through Eidolons as though their bodies were nothing more than obstacles in its way. Several creatures were sliced apart before the weapon finally reached the siege weapon.
The enormous axe collided directly with the ancient metal structure.
The impact was devastating.
The siege weapon shook violently, its massive body losing its balance as the force of the attack tore through its structure. The New Eidolon Priest and the other Eidolons standing on top of it were suddenly thrown from their positions.
The entire weapon began to tilt.
The New Eidolon Priest’s eyes widened as he lost his footing, his body tumbling away from the structure along with the other Eidolons.
The siege weapon began falling towards the ground.
Camila’s blood ran cold, she looked at the enormous structure coming down around them and immediately screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Runnnn!"
The weapon’s massive barrel was turning in their direction as the structure fell. Its enormous weight dragged it downward, while the barrel continued rotating until it was pointing directly towards them.
Daisy reacted immediately.
She shot into the air, but before she moved too far away, she sent her chain down towards the others.
Camila reached for it and she managed to grab Malik and pulled him against herself before catching the chain with her other hand.
Yuri wasn’t as lucky. An Eidolon suddenly blocked her path.
Her eyes narrowed as she raised her black katana and cut it down without hesitation. The creature collapsed at her feet, but the delay had already cost her precious time.
The barrel of the siege weapon was directly behind her and there was nowhere left to run.
Daisy’s chain was already stretched towards her, but the distance was too great, and the siege weapon was already in the process of firing.
The enormous weapon released a deafening roar as the energy gathered inside its barrel suddenly erupted forward.
Yuri was still able to turn and face her death.
Light filled her vision, as an enormous torrent of concentrated energy racing towards her at nearly the speed of light. There was no time left to dodge, and for the first time, Yuri genuinely believed this was it.
Then Andrea’s figure suddenly crashed down in front of her.
Without hesitation, Andrea raised her pristine white blade and turned its flat side directly towards the incoming beam.
The laser slammed into the sword, the impact was monstrous.
