The New Eidolon Priest sat confidently on the bent-over Eidolon beneath him, his face still twisted with rage. He had just ascended from the lowest of the low to a height he hadn’t even been able to dream of until recently.
Yet instead of being revered and feared, he was being treated like an insignificant insect, tossed around like any other Eidolon.
He clenched his fists. The humiliation still burned inside him, but then, just when he thought there was nothing he could do about it, an opportunity presented itself.
The human relic they had been using as a siege weapon was moving across the battlefield, and coincidentally, there was a familiar group of humans standing atop it.
A dark grin slowly spread across his face.
He had no intention of challenging those scary humans himself.
Instead, he raised his cleaver and without hesitation, ordered hundreds of Eidolons to converge around him.
The horde immediately responded.
They rushed through the snow from every direction, surrounding the New Eidolon Priest as they prepared to launch another attack.
He pointed his cleaver towards the moving siege weapon.
"Let’s kill them all".
The horde moved like a giant mass of white snow through the thick smoke of the battlefield, making it difficult for Daisy to distinguish them from the surrounding wasteland. By the time they were close enough to attack, she finally realized they weren’t just moving towards the siege weapon.
They were surrounding it.
Daisy immediately turned towards the others.
"Guys, we’ve got company."
Yuri jumped down to the lower level and placed both hands against the metal. She glanced up at them.
"Jump."
They immediately obeyed.
The moment they were airborne, Yuri released a short burst of electricity through the metal structure. The current travelled across the surface of the siege weapon, stunning the first Eidolons that attempted to climb over it.
They collapsed onto the ground, only to be trampled by the siege weapon and, moments later, by their fellow Eidolons.
The Priest scoffed and ordered them to intensify their attacks. Keeping pace with the siege weapon and climbing aboard it wasn’t going to be easy, and he knew there was no way he could simply jump onto it himself.
Fighting Andrea had already given him a painful reality check.
So instead, he relied on stepping over his fellow Eidolons, using their bodies as footholds until he managed to get himself and a small group onto the moving siege weapon.
Yuri activated her Dormant Ability and bolted towards the top. The moment her feet landed, however, she nearly fell as the weapon suddenly came to an abrupt stop.
Malik was standing near the edge and almost fell into the Eidolons below, but Camila managed to grab him in time and pull him back.
"Guys, they’re in front of us too."
Malik announced dreadfully as the Eidolons finally managed to bring the siege weapon to a complete stop.
"Shit." Yuri cursed, which made Daisy look at her strangely.
The New Eidolon Priest snickered darkly, blood still dripping from his wounds as he messed around with the mechanism of the siege weapon. Soon, Yuri and the others noticed the runes across its body beginning to glow brilliantly, even more brightly than they had before.
Malik was convinced of one thing right about now: he needed to find an escape route. He tried jumping over the side, but Camila caught him again and pulled him close.
"Stay still, damn it. I can’t protect you if you keep jumping to your death." She turned towards the others. "How do we stop them?"
Yuri really wanted to curse again, but Daisy was already looking at her strangely, so she kept her expression cool.
"Let’s jump to our deaths."
Without pausing, she ran over the front of the weapon and jumped straight down into the mass of Eidolons. Her Dormant Ability immediately reverberated through them, spreading from one body to another as a chain reaction activated. Electricity jumped from one Eidolon to the next, and dozens of them suddenly convulsed and collapsed into the snow.
Camila lifted Malik over her shoulders and followed once Yuri had cleared a path for them. Daisy’s expression said more than she could, and as she looked back at the Eidolons still pouring towards them, she could only sigh to herself.
She instantly took off into the air and landed beside the others. The moment her feet touched the ground, her thin chain whipped out and shot into the crowd of Eidolons.
The blade at its tip punched through the chest of the first Eidolon and kept going, piercing straight through another before burying itself inside a third. Daisy yanked the chain back violently, ripping the blade free and dragging the three bodies towards her.
She didn’t bother releasing them.
With another swing, she sent the corpses crashing into the Eidolons rushing towards them, knocking several of them aside. The chain immediately lashed out again, the blade stabbing into another body before Daisy pulled it sideways, carving through the formation and tearing another opening through the horde.
The New Eidolon Priest looked towards them in dismay. He couldn’t understand why they were abandoning the weapon after going through so much trouble to take control of it.
But he also didn’t care, his weapon was already active.
The faint glow that had spread across the runes suddenly intensified, bathing the ancient metal in a brilliant light. One rune after another ignited across its enormous body, forming lines of energy that travelled towards the massive barrel.
The entire weapon began to vibrate.
A deep mechanical rumble rolled across the battlefield as something inside the ancient structure came to life. The ground beneath it trembled, and the enormous barrel slowly began to rotate.
The New Eidolon Priest watched with widening eyes as it turned towards the battlefield.
The runes surrounding its mouth burned brighter than the rest, and the air in front of it began to distort from the immense energy gathering inside.
The New Eidolon Priest’s expression twisted into a vicious grin.
"Die, everybody dies, hahaha".
