Just as the punch was about to connect, the Chief stepped to the side and used Elias’s momentum against him. He grabbed Elias by the arm and violently redirected his body, sending him crashing into the frozen ground with enough force to crack the ice beneath him. Before Elias could recover from the impact, the Chief was already on top of him, using his superior strength to pin his massive body against the ground.
Elias struggled beneath him, trying to force the Chief off, but the difference in their physical strength was still obvious. The Chief pressed him down with one arm while raising his other fist above his head.
"You should have ran with the rest of your kind."
The Chief brought his fist down against Elias’s face. The impact shook the frozen ground beneath them, and Elias’s head was driven into the ice as blood spilled from his nose. He gritted his teeth and tried to push the Chief away, but the Chief simply raised his fist again, preparing to deliver another punch.
However, before he could bring it down, a white blur suddenly tore through the air and forced the Chief to react. Andrea attacked, her sudden assault preventing him from continuing his attack on Elias.
The Chief glanced toward the New Priest and the Divine Priest, who were still nearby. They had seen everything, yet neither of them made any attempt to help. Instead, the divine priest conveniently pretended not to notice the Chief looking directly at them.
The Chief’s expression darkened as he realized exactly what they were doing. "You cowards!" he cursed at them, his voice echoing across the battlefield. "Are you all just going to stand there and watch?" Neither priest responded.
Before the Chief could say anything else, Andrea’s attack forced him to move. He released Elias and twisted his body away from the incoming strike, barely avoiding the enchanted blade as it swept past him. Andrea didn’t give him time to recover, immediately following with another attack that forced the Chief several steps away from Elias.
Elias finally had room to move. He rolled onto his side and pushed himself up from the cracked ice, his metal-like body covered in frost and blood. His face was bruised from the Chief’s punches, and blood continued to drip from his nose, but he was still standing.
Andrea kept her eyes on the Chief. "You alright?"
Elias wiped the blood from beneath his nose and looked at the Chief. "I’ve been better."
The Chief stared at the two of them, his blood-red halo still surrounding his body. Andrea raised her sword, while Elias stepped forward again, refusing to give him any chance to turn his attention back toward the other priests.
...
Yuri’s knees dropped into the snow. In front of her was a small, artificially made tunnel carved from inside the camp by Claire. With the advantage of her Dormant Ability, nobody had been able to notice it, allowing the tunnel to remain hidden beneath the snow.
A small black wire protruded from the entrance. That was what Yuri had come here to light.
She glanced toward the camp. In the distance, Elias and Andrea were battling the Chief, keeping him at bay while the army of Eidolons continued pouring in from all directions. The battlefield was becoming increasingly chaotic, with the creatures moving through the broken sections of the wooden wall and spreading deeper into the camp.
Yuri didn’t hesitate.
She activated her Dormant Ability and lit the fuse.
A small spark traveled along the black wire before disappearing into the tunnel. The burning fuse continued underground, following the hidden path Claire had carved through the camp and moving straight toward the first group of explosives.
...
The New Eidolon Priest felt compelled by a strange force. His grip tightened around his cleaver as he prepared to rush into the battle and help the Chief, but the Divine Priest suddenly grabbed him and held him back.
"What do you think you’re doing? You’re going to be used as cannon fodder. Look at them go."
The Divine Priest grabbed the Priest by the head and held it steady, forcing him to look toward the battlefield. What they were witnessing was truly a clash between monsters. Elias and the Chief were tearing through the battlefield with their monstrous strength, while Andrea moved between them with her sword, every exchange sending destruction across the surrounding area. Even the Divine Priest was certain he wouldn’t survive more than a minute if he stepped into the middle of it.
"I have to help the Chief."
The Divine Priest’s expression twisted. He was starting to lose his mind. He actually hated the Chief for treating him like crap, and a part of him wanted to see the humans kill him. He could only think that way because he was no longer bound to the Chief, unlike the New Priest.
The source of the New Eidolon Priest’s intelligence was still the Chief. The Chief’s death might not take that intelligence away from him, but as long as the Chief was still alive, that connection continued to compel him to help. Whatever happened to the Chief, the Priest couldn’t simply stand by and watch him fight alone.
The Priest pushed the Divine Priest away and charged toward the battle, cleaver raised in his hand. However, the moment he got close enough to enter the fight, a stray ice boulder came flying through the battlefield and collided directly with him.
The impact sent him flying backward through the snow.
The Divine Priest’s expression became hollow as he watched the Priest disappear into the distance. He had expected as much.
Andrea shot up from the ground and collided with the Chief, the force of the blow knocking his jaw upward and creating an opening for Elias. He immediately took advantage of it, grabbing the Chief and lifting his massive body into the air before violently slamming him back down onto the ground.
"Get off!" the Chief roared.
But before he could even finish the command, Andrea landed directly atop his forehead. Her eyes were closed as she raised her blade above her head, then drove it downward toward his eyes.
The blade struck, and the Chief’s roar of pain echoed across the battlefield as his body began spasming uncontrollably beneath them.
