My Weekly Refreshing Mentor Spirit
Chapter 785 - 448: Xue Dili Unaffected_3"Calm down, your crying now will only gradually sap your strength, and even the last hope of survival will vanish," Xue Dili said.
The noble lady stopped crying, her tears smudging her light makeup, making her appear more fragile. She wasn’t a girl born on 21st century Earth, unable to utter senseless words like "Why couldn’t you protect us better?"
She understood that the only way to survive was to cling tightly to this priest’s leg.
Because he was the strongest among their group of newcomers and a noble magic user.
A magic user... Perhaps it was no longer so unattainable for her in the past, but now, she was merely someone else’s plaything...
The atmosphere became extremely quiet all of a sudden. Even though they knew their destiny, they didn’t know how to counter it.
They felt unbearably uncomfortable with their fate being in someone else’s hands, out of their control.
"Priest, may I come closer?" the noble lady asked.
"You may," Xue Dili replied, offering a comforting word, "Things haven’t reached the worst point yet. I swear in the name of God, you will survive."
For some reason, when Xue Dili uttered this sentence, the noble lady inexplicably believed it, as if a contract guaranteeing her life had been established.
She had a feeling that, no matter what, this priest would ensure her survival.
"Thank you, priest," she said, her body instinctively drawing a bit closer, seemingly greedily craving this sense of security.
Until there was only a foot of distance between them, she stopped moving closer, maintaining that neither too far nor too close distance.
"Priest, actually I didn’t tell the whole story earlier. I am indeed a princess, but that was long ago, of a small country that the Empire destroyed..." she said, slowly revealing her past.
"Hmm..." Xue Dili quietly listened, occasionally responding to indicate he was paying attention.
But, was she really a princess?
The Cursed Blood extracted a fragment of her skin scraped from the cracks in the wall, and after testing, it showed she was not a virgin.
Nonetheless, Xue Dili patiently listened to the story of the woman who claimed to be a princess of a fallen country.
"After my country was destroyed, I was captured by the leading Duke, became his trophy, and his... mistress..." she said, revealing her identity, the soft glow of the Holy Light Ball reflecting in her eyes.
It was early morning now, yet from her, Xue Dili felt a sense of relief emanating.
It seemed as if revealing the deepest secrets to someone she had only known for a day brought her a sense of relaxation.
She wanted to see Xue Dili’s expression, to see if he would look at her with pity, contempt, or regret...
But when she raised her head to look at Xue Dili, she found no emotion on the young priest’s face, as if he had just heard a simple comment like "Did you eat today?"
No pity, no contempt, no regret, just a calm response.
"Oh."
She smiled, perhaps the most genuine smile since her country fell.
"Thank you for not looking at me differently," she said, even distancing herself from Xue Dili a bit, to keep from sullying the kind-hearted priest.
Yet, Xue Dili just silently took out some bread and water, saying, "Have some food, daylight will completely break soon, and we still need to explore this island together and uncover the secrets of the prophecy."
Xue Dili casually made up a reason and handed her the freshly made bread and water.
He also tossed a portion to the baron.
"Hmm, freshly baked bread? How is this possible?" As she received the bread, its softness akin to down feathers, her eyes widened instantly.
"The Bread Technique, the last Divine Art I know, can transform wood into bread and water, just like it came straight from the oven," Xue Dili said, taking a bite of the Divine Tree Brand bread.
"Regain your energy. I estimate we’ll be safe for the time being until tonight."
