Although the Half-Elf’s death left this small team in disarray, they all wanted to seize the opportunity during the day to find some clues, at the very least clues that would allow them some peace of mind.
Yet for Xue Dili, he merely observed all this in silence, like a cold-blooded animal.
"Why don’t you tell them the truth? You’re not the type to enjoy watching others caught in fear, are you?" The Mimic Venerable King seemed to start again, initiating his philosophical and human nature interrogation.
Xue Dili really thought that perhaps the Mimic Venerable King had been invincible for too long, which is why he idly indulged in trolley problems, interrogations of human nature, and dark future questions like a madman.
Despite always following in the footsteps of the former Venerable King, it seemed that his philosophical thinking had become somewhat deranged.
"There’s no reason why, it has nothing to do with human nature, it’s simply unnecessary. If I don’t tell them, they will continue along their original path, but if I disclose it, numerous unpredictable futures could arise due to various reasons." Looking at the Mimic Venerable King, Xue Dili said,
"I think you’re just idle, it’s only when you’re idle that you think so much. When often you don’t have any room for hesitation or procrastination, and if you hesitate or procrastinate for even a second, thousands of people will die. You must consider between a bad future and even worse one, as if you can’t wait another second, there won’t be such leisure time to ponder these mundane matters."
Xue Dili’s words made the Mimic Venerable King fall into deep thought.
Though somewhat far-fetched, the Mimic Venerable King did not argue back this time.
"But this is somewhat cruel to them." The Mimic Venerable King said while looking at the anxious Baron and this noble maiden.
"Perhaps what I do is wrong, but I’ll ensure the ending is good, they’ll end up surviving, it will only be akin to playing an ultra-realistic immersive horror game." Xue Dili said, embarking on a seemingly meaningless clue search.
"The joy of surviving disaster, like a dreamlike experience, might perhaps reignite their confidence in the future."
A party of three prepared to wander around the island, searching for clues on this island.
...
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Four senior members used a mirror to eavesdrop on all their movements, including their conversations.
This was their power, obtained through items from previous death missions, including numerous rule-level artifacts. Even some entities that looked terrifyingly capable of world destruction, like Demons, could be affected by this rule-level-like artifact.
However, each of these items simultaneously seals a "eerie entity," and each time they are used, the eerie entity gets closer to permanent release.
The instant transfer of the Half-Elf from the Ancient Castle to the sea previously utilized an artifact named "Sea Vortex," which they acquired during their third death mission. The eerie entity of that mission wasn’t a specific monster, but rather the entire ocean.
The mission left them near death, all newcomers perished, and about half of the veterans died before completing it, earning them this rule-level artifact.
It can instantly transfer any entity to the nearest sea and be entangled by the eerie entity named "Sea Vortex" within the sea.
To correspond to the prophecy sequence of the deaths, they brought out all the items obtained from the first nine missions at once and used them at all costs, regardless of whether the eerie entity within would revive.
After all, this was their final mission; after it ended, they’d return to the real world, no longer daily struggling to survive in this eerie and Demonic realm.
It was just that the third mission’s high death rate scared them so tremendously; thus, afterwards they extensively used newcomers as bait, slowly surviving mission after mission until the last quest, where the captain fell at the hands of the butcher, giving them the final chance to return home.
And now, they even began to fantasize about the future after returning home.
"My home is by the sea, where there’s a village of our Fishmen. The entire ocean is black, yet its resources are immensely rich. I think, it must been long past." Said the Fishman with three rows of teeth, reminiscing about his hometown.
Although it’s an ignorant and backward place, many there look more like fish than people, only he resembled a person the most.
"Haha, I plan to reconnect with everyone after returning home, find one another, and get married." Another laughed, now the captain of this team, although originally just the deputy but naturally succeeded after the captain died. "And maybe I’ll see if I can fulfill my dreams."
But the woman he embraced thought, "I can’t let him find me, knowing I’m a woman who relied on selling my body for status... even sold my body just to survive the many previous death missions..."
The final woman, akin to a secretary, simply said, "Well then, congratulations on your endless happiness."
She pondered a lot too, about the state of her Empire during this time, and her father and crown brothers? How is their invasion of the neighboring Empire going? Did they die out there?
