Chapter 965: [965] : Preparations

"We’re definitely coming with you," the butler stated firmly.

"And I hope you don’t mind. My lady is a wanted woman now, so being by your side is the safest place for her."

"Besides, if you need to hire a carriage, you won’t know where to go. We do."

"So you really should take us with you."

Shin nodded. "Alright, I get it."

"Then let’s call it a night. Butler, get your lady settled. We can set out tomorrow."

But the butler just chuckled. "Since she is to be your fiancée, it wouldn’t be right for me to look after her anymore."

"I’ll go get my own room. You two can share. Don’t mind me."

With that, he scurried off, moving so fast that Shin was left speechless. He’d never seen anyone bolt like that.

Ignoring Lucy’s gawking expression, Shin simply flopped onto the bed without another word.

Lucy was practically sputtering. What was happening?

Why was she stuck in a room with this withdrawn man? But then she remembered how incredibly powerful he was. He wouldn’t just toss her out, would he?

She finally spoke, her voice soft. "Thank you for saving my butler, and for saving me. If it weren’t for you, I would have probably taken my own life by now."

Shin shook his head. "What are you talking about? You’re alive and well, aren’t you?"

"Don’t dwell on it. Some things are best left in the past. Now that you have a clear path forward, you just have to walk it. Don’t hesitate, or you’ll regret it."

"You need to believe one thing: you only get one life. Don’t ever think about suicide again. Even if you were... violated by that old king..."

"As long as you’re alive, there’s always hope, isn’t there?"

He gently patted Lucy’s head. "You know, you remind me of my sister. Though, she’s much more obedient than you are."

Lucy pouted.

"You have a sister? I wouldn’t have guessed. But I suppose you can’t judge a book by its cover."

"I’d love to see what the sister of someone so amazing is like. But she’s definitely not as cute as me."

Shin was at a loss for words. He was just now realizing her little flaw—she was incredibly vain. He’d never met anyone so conceited. Deciding he’d had enough, he didn’t bother replying.

He kicked Lucy right off the bed.

"Go find your own place to sleep. I’m going to bed now."

Lucy was stunned. What was happening? He had just kicked her out of the bed.

How unforgivable! But there was nothing she could do. She glanced at Shin and shook her head in resignation.

It seemed her plan to make things official was a non-starter. She stuck her tongue out at him, then left the room.

Only then could Shin finally find some peace. He’d been through so much since arriving in this world. Exhausted, he soon fell asleep.

Time passed quickly, and before he knew it, it was the next morning.

Shin, feeling well-rested, stepped out of his room to find Lucy and the butler already at a table, eating breakfast.

Because of what happened yesterday, Lucy was clearly holding a grudge and refused to even look at him, which made things a little awkward for Shin. He had saved them, sure, but he was currently living on their money. Kicking her out of bed wasn’t exactly his finest moment.

But that was just his personality. He knew he had to do it, or he never would have gotten a good night’s sleep.

He looked at Lucy and spoke slowly. "Lucy, I was out of line yesterday, but you can’t be like this. What if you starve yourself?"

"And what if some powerful enemy shows up, and I can’t fight them because I haven’t eaten? That would be on you."

"But I do know one thing—without me, you two wouldn’t last long." A small smile played on his lips.

"You people are really something else. Hiding all night without making a move. I’m almost impressed."

Lucy was completely lost. "What’s going on?" She glanced around and suddenly noticed ten strands of black aura floating gently in the air.

That’s when it hit her. Someone had been watching them all along. Their safety, once again, depended entirely on Shin.

Her anger vanished. "Brother Shin," she said sweetly, "I was just teasing you. Look! All the best food is for you."

"And please, hurry up and get rid of them. We still need to go to that garbage city and then the Imperial Capital."

"But I really didn’t expect... Jela is already dead, yet someone still dares to come here."

As if a thought struck her, she looked around in shock.

The butler reacted at the same time. "My lady, could it be... the King’s Four Heavenly Kings?"

"Hahaha, at least you have some sense."

In a flash, a black shadow materialized in the room. It radiated immense magical power, but Shin was unmoved.

This one was certainly a cut above Jela, but he posed no threat. Shin was dozens of times stronger than he had been back then, and this newcomer was only marginally better than Jela.

He’d come here just to die. Shin spoke nonchalantly, "What are you? State your name. If you behave, Grandpa might spare your life."

Shin saw no reason to be polite with someone like this.

The black shadow, hearing Shin’s insult, bristled. "Quite a sharp tongue. Let’s see if your skills are as impressive."

"Frankly, you don’t look like much to me. I can’t for the life of me figure out how you killed Jela. What a disgrace."

"But now that you’ve run into me, your luck has run out."
