Things had progressed to this point, and now Shin didn't know what to say to these two.

He continued, "You think this is some grand romance, don't you? Your current situation reminds me of something."

"Let me guess… it must be something like this."

"Lucy is the princess, and this 'butler' here is a knight, sworn to protect her. Am I right?"

Seeing she had been completely exposed, Lucy simply nodded.

"And your father would never approve of your relationship."

"I know the story. Lucy, I'm guessing you don't have a mother, do you? Don't bother with the details. I think my guess is pretty accurate."

"Without a mother, and with a distant father, you grew up. And just when your father finally realizes he has a daughter, perhaps because your mother's death was related to you, he fell into despair. But now he's come to his senses."

"And you won't accept him, will you?"

Lucy was stunned. This man was infuriating, but everything he said was true. Still, to think he possessed such terrifying power...

She said slowly, "So what if you're right? That's exactly what happened."

"And that's why I hate him. I hate him so much."

Shin's eyes narrowed. He knew this tired old story without even having to guess, but he hadn't expected to be right.

It seemed reality was even more absurd than fiction.

"And this guy is your childhood sweetheart, the one you grew up with, right? He's the one who convinced you to run away. But did you know he's been lying to you, too? There are some things I really shouldn't have to be the one to tell you."

Just then, the young butler jumped to his feet.

"What are you talking about? I don't understand! How could I ever deceive Lucy? I love her more than anyone!"

"You're right, I told her to run away. If she didn't, she would have been married off to the neighboring kingdom."

"And the king never even asked if she agreed."

Shin just smiled and looked at them. "You really have your story straight."

"I don't care what you've been thinking, kid. But since you've been using me, I think it's only fair I expose your ugly truth."

"Lucy, do you know Jack's real intentions? You just followed him blindly. Do you have any idea what you two will face?"

"And what's this secret you're carrying? I can't figure out why so many people want what's inside you."

Lucy seemed to snap out of her daze, looking at Jack.

"Is all of this true? We'll just run away, and then we can do whatever we want."

Shin was speechless. Even now, Lucy was still deluded.

"The king sent assassins, but they were here to kill him. Because he's a spy from another country, the Dark Empire."

"And your body holds something that everyone desires. I'm not sure what it is yet."

"But it must be something important. Something that grants power, right?"

"That Jela was brought in by your butler, to snatch what's inside you."

"And then he would abandon you. But by then, your only goal would be to avenge him."

"As for his side of the plan, I've pretty much figured it out."

"After stealing what's yours, how would the butler escape? To keep you from suspecting him..."

"Jela was supposed to pretend to kill him, which would allow him to escape."

Lucy was stunned. She looked at Shin and said, "You must be working for my father too! If you're going to capture me, then just do it! Why do you have to slander my Jack? I'll kill you!"

Shin almost laughed. What a moron. He had made everything so clear, yet she still didn't get it. He said slowly, "Actually, there's one major problem with all this. Why did Jela really kill the butler? It seems our young butler here didn't know. He thought he wasn't really going to die."

"And my revival of him became a joke."

"But Jela really did kill the butler. So what was he planning? He wasn't working for the Emperor, was he?"

"That means he was working for the king. The butler didn't know him, just paid a neutral guild member."

"But have you ever considered that if he gave that information to the king, he'd get a lot more gold?"

"I think anyone would know which side to choose, right?"

"Then you would have been killed, the princess would have been taken back, and that would have been the end of the story. But Jela never expected me to show up."

"And here's the fun part. Because Jela thought I was hired by you, and your father probably thinks the same..."

"I ended up taking the blame for everything. And now, you're going to lead me on a wild goose chase, not to the capital, but out of this country, with me as your unwitting companion."

"I'm just a pawn in all this."

"How ironic."

Now that everything was out in the open, the butler dropped the act and said pleadingly, "Benefactor, since you could save me once, you can surely save me again."

"We truly have nowhere else to go. The king really is trying to capture the princess. We'll never see each other again. But that's not the main point. The point is… she's being forced to marry someone she doesn't even know."

"That's why I came up with this desperate plan. Please, benefactor, protect us on our journey. We will never forget your kindness."

Shin just wanted to laugh. Using him as a tool...
