The wall-seal breathed.
That was the only word for it. Not pulsed, not glowed — breathed, the ash-red grain running through the concrete swelling and easing in a rhythm too even to be anything but alive.
Kagetsu watched it from six feet back, his marked arm held rigid at his side.
The eye pattern had climbed past his shoulder an hour ago.
It hadn't stopped since.
---
"Talk to me," Orochimaru said. He hadn't moved from beside the wall since they'd arrived. "Numbers."
[Talent Card: Divergent Expression]
World: Naruto
Quality: Epic
Effect: Collective bio-processing intelligence, distributed across the colony
Status: Active — Tracking Corridor Seven wall-seal in real time
Report:
— Wall-seal structural completion: 71%
— Estimated time to completion: 41 minutes (rate increasing)
— Arm mark spread rate: 3.4x baseline (fastest recorded)
— Correlation between wall-seal activity and arm mark spread: 100%, zero measured lag
"Forty-one minutes," Kagetsu said. "Ten minutes ago it was fifty-eight."
"It's not slowing down," Kushina said. "It's speeding up while it fills in."
Minato hadn't taken his eyes off her since they'd walked into the corridor.
He hadn't taken his eyes off her since Ch. 333, really.
"Then we stop treating this like something we can wait out," Orochimaru said.
---
He crouched, studying the seal's outer ring at close range for the first time since confirming it hadn't existed a chapter of Corridor Seven ago.
Nested loops. Layered redundancy. The kind of structure that assumed someone would eventually try to break it and built in three more ways to hold anyway.
"Kushina."
"I see it."
"Same hand as your family's containment work."
"Not the same hand," she said. "The same grammar. Whoever's writing this learned the shape of Uzumaki work without ever being taught it properly — same as your suppression seal, but faster. Cleaner. Like they've had more practice since."
Minato's jaw tightened.
"Since when."
"I don't know," Kushina said. "That's the problem."
---
Orochimaru drew a single line of chakra along the seal's outer edge with one fingertip — not a strike, not an attempt to break it. A test. The smallest possible pressure he could apply and still call it data.
The reaction was immediate.
The ash-red grain flared white-hot along the entire outer ring, a shockwave of light racing inward toward the center in under a second — and Kagetsu's arm mark answered it, a line of fire tearing up from his shoulder toward his collarbone so fast he went down on one knee before he even registered the sound he'd made.

Alert — Immediate Recalculation
Report:
— Wall-seal structural completion: 71% → 84%
— Estimated time to completion: 41 minutes → 9 minutes
— Arm mark spread: now at collarbone, moving toward throat
— Assessment: External contact accelerates the seal. Confirmed, not theoretical.
"Nine minutes," Kagetsu said, through his teeth. "You just cost us thirty-two."
"I know." Orochimaru's voice was flat. Controlled. Furious at himself in the specific quiet way that meant he wasn't going to waste time being furious out loud. "It's not a lock. It's a wound. Every touch closes it faster."
Minato had Kushina's arm already, pulling her half a step back even though she hadn't moved toward it.
"Then nobody touches it again," he said.
"Somebody has to," Kagetsu said. "Nine minutes and it's finished whether we touch it or not."
---
Kushina stared at the door-shaped absence at the seal's center — the place where the lock-and-key structure resolved into something built to open, not to hold.
Built to open around her.
"It's not trying to keep something out," she said slowly.
"It's trying to let something in," Orochimaru said. "You already said that in Ch. 334."
"No — I mean it's not a door for whatever's on the other side." Her eyes hadn't left the shape. "It's a door shaped like me because it needs my hand on it specifically to open correctly. If somebody else forces it—"
"It fails the way your suppression seal failed," Kagetsu said. "Badly. Unpredictably."
"Or worse," she said. "That one was reverse-engineered from watching me use my own work. This one was built around the idea of me. It might not fail soft."
---
Kagetsu's knees buckled again. The mark had reached his throat, a thin ash-red line tracing up along his jaw now, warm instead of hot, which somehow felt worse.
[Talent Card: Divergent Expression]
Report:
— Estimated time to completion: 6 minutes
— New observation: arm mark and wall-seal grain now share identical micro-pattern at 94% structural match
— Hypothesis (unconfirmed): the two are not separately linked systems. They may be the same system, expressed in two locations.
"They're the same seal," Kagetsu said out loud, reading it as it updated. "Not connected. The same. My arm's the small half. That wall is the rest of it."
Orochimaru went very still.
"Then closing the source doesn't mean cutting your arm off," he said. "It means the door finishes with or without a wall to stand in, because it was never really about the wall."
"It's about him," Kushina said quietly. "About Kagetsu carrying half of it since Ch. 327 without knowing."
Six minutes. Then five.
---
"Kushina." Minato's voice had gone somewhere Kagetsu had never heard it go before — not commanding. Asking. "If you put your hand on it—"
"I don't know what happens," she said. "Nobody does. That's exactly why it has to be me and not a guess by someone it wasn't built for."
"That's not a plan. That's a bet."
"We have five minutes, Minato. I don't see anyone holding a better one."
Orochimaru said nothing. Which, from him, was its own kind of answer — the kind that meant he'd already run the numbers and didn't like where they landed either.
---
Four minutes.
Kagetsu forced himself upright against the corridor wall, one hand pressed flat over the mark now circling toward the underside of his jaw, and looked past all three of them to the door-shape at the seal's center — right as the grain along its inner edge shifted color for the first time since they'd found it.
Ash-red, bleeding into something darker.
And a voice came out of the wall itself, low, almost gentle, the same voice that had said Finally in Ch. 330 and Uzumaki in Ch. 333 — closer now than either time before, close enough that Kagetsu felt it in the mark itself rather than just his ears.
Three minutes.
The voice said its third word.
"Almost."
