"Finally" hung in the corridor like it had been waiting years to be said.
Kagetsu didn't hear the second half of it.
His own view of Corridor Seven thinned to a suggestion, a ghost image behind glass, while the other one — Kushina's, low, close to the ground, looking up at his own face — burned in bright and solid and undeniable.
He could feel his knees against the floor.
Except his knees weren't on the floor. He was still standing. Orochimaru's grip was still locked on his shoulder. It was Kushina who'd gone down, and Kagetsu was somehow living it from inside her instead of watching it happen six feet away.
He tried to pull back into his own body the way he'd have pulled his hand off a hot stove, instinct before thought, and found nothing to pull against. There was no edge to grab. No seam between where he ended and where this new, borrowed view began.

[Talent Card: Divergent Expression — Live Analysis]
World: Bleach
Quality: Epic
Status: Critical
Finding: Kagetsu's marked signature is now registering partial overlap with Kushina's own (11% and rising, previously 0%). This is NOT the mark's Ch. 338 decoy overlay — that remains at 60%, unchanged, targeted at external detection. This is new, involuntary, and internal.
Recommendation: Sever point unknown. The colony cannot identify what to disconnect without risking disconnecting the wrong thing.
---
"Eleven percent," Kagetsu said, and his own voice sounded distant to him, secondary, like someone else's mouth was doing the talking while he watched from behind it. "It's not the decoy. Something new is stacking on top of it."
I know, the figure said through the mark, and there was no performance left in it at all. I felt it start the second the two of them spoke together. I think that's what "Finally" meant. Not for you. For this.
"For what."
I don't have a clean word for it. The closest I can give you is that the vessel and the doorway-thing aren't fighting to hurt either of you. They're fighting to finish something the overlay interrupted back in Ch. 338 — and the overlay is the only thing standing between "partial" and "complete."
"You said the overlay was a decoy. You never said it was also a wall."
It's both. It always was both. I told you what it did. I didn't tell you what it was holding back, because I didn't think anything would ever get close enough to test it.
"And now something has."
The figure didn't answer that directly.
Kagetsu. However this goes, I need you to hear this now, while you can still hear it as yourself: none of what you're about to feel is a verdict on you. Whatever it takes from either of you, it isn't choosing based on anything you did.
Kagetsu felt Kushina's fear as clearly as his own, folded in under it like a second heartbeat, and he understood with sudden, sick clarity what "complete" meant without needing the figure to spell it out.
---
Orochimaru's kunai found the doorway-thing's shoulder and passed through exactly the way the first one had, no resistance, no mark left behind. He didn't waste a second flinching over the miss — just reset his stance, already calculating the next angle, because a fighter who stopped to process failure mid-fight was a fighter who didn't survive the next four seconds.
"Physical contact isn't the answer here," he called out, not taking his eyes off it. "Kagetsu — if this is about the mark, can you close it from your end?"
"I don't know where 'my end' is anymore." Kagetsu's hands weren't steady. Neither, he realized distantly, were Kushina's — he could feel the tremor in fingers that weren't his, a foot lower than his own would be. "It's not open like a door. It's open like a wound. I don't think you close those from the inside."
Minato had planted himself directly between Kushina and the vessel now, closer than tactics alone would justify, Hiraishin kunai forgotten in his hand. He wasn't looking at the enemy. He was looking at his wife, on her knees, eyes open but somewhere else entirely.
"Kushina. Kushina, look at me."
She didn't. Couldn't. Her eyes were open, fixed on nothing, and Minato's free hand hovered near her face without landing, afraid of what touching her might interrupt or accelerate. Kagetsu felt the exact moment she tried and failed — the sensation of reaching for her own body's controls and finding someone else's hand already on the wheel, faint, distant, an echo of Kagetsu's own presence bleeding the wrong direction across the same connection.
"She's trying," Kagetsu said, and the words came out wrong, half his voice and half hers, like they were fighting over which throat to use. "Minato, she can hear you. She just can't answer yet."
Minato's composure cracked for the first time all arc — not into panic, into something rawer, quieter, a man watching the one thing he'd built his entire approach to tonight around slip past what he could actually protect.
"Then tell her I'm still here," he said. "However you're saying it. Tell her that."

[Talent Card: Divergent Expression — Alert]
World: Bleach
Quality: Epic
Status: Critical, escalating
Finding: Overlap now 19%. Rate of change is accelerating, not linear — consistent with a feedback loop rather than a steady drain.
Recommendation: If this reaches parity with the Ch. 338 decoy overlay (60%), the colony cannot predict which signature — Kagetsu's or Kushina's — will remain dominant. Immediate external intervention required. The colony has no method to provide it.
---
"Nineteen," Kagetsu said, and this time it came out as barely more than a breath. "Orochimaru. It's not going to slow down on its own."
"Then give me something to cut."
"There's nothing to cut. It's not a technique, it's not a seal, it's not sitting still long enough to have an edge." His own vision — the real one, the one that was actually his — was almost gone now, Kushina's view crowding it out entirely, and through it he watched his own body sway on its feet from an angle he'd never see himself from again if this didn't stop. "I can feel what she's feeling. I don't think that's supposed to go both ways yet, but it's starting to."
Orochimaru's next question was quieter, aimed less at Kagetsu and more at the corridor at large.
"Whose fault is that supposed to be."
The vessel's voice cut through the corridor, almost gentle, almost sorry.
"You keep asking the wrong person to stop it."
Every head turned.
It wasn't looking at Kagetsu. It wasn't looking at Kushina.
It was looking at the split-faced figure.
"You're the one holding the door open," it said. "You have been since the day you decided the mark was worth the risk. If you want this to stop, you already know what it costs. You've just been hoping nobody asked you to pay it twice."
The figure went very, very still.
For the first time since Ch. 337, it didn't answer at all.
Kagetsu, from somewhere behind Kushina's borrowed eyes, watched the figure's silence stretch a full three seconds — long enough for Orochimaru to reset his stance again, long enough for Minato's hovering hand to finally settle on Kushina's shoulder, long enough for the overlap reading in the back of Kagetsu's mind to climb one more percentage point without anyone announcing it out loud.
Twenty.
