Kessa trembled under him, taking every drop, tail weakly curling around his wrist.
For several long seconds, the only movement in the room was their breathing and the slow drip of excess seed down Kessa's thighs onto the ruined sheets.
Outside, the street commentary had gone quieter, more speculative.
The half-sheep woman's voice rose one final time, hoarse with pure frustration.
"I am adding a damage deposit to your bill, barbarian! And if I hear one more bed slam before sunrise, I am coming up there myself!"
Kane slowly pulled out.
A messy trickle of his release followed, running down over Kessa's swollen folds and the curve of her ass. She collapsed fully onto her stomach, unable to hold herself up any longer, face turned to the side, eyes half-lidded and dazed.
He looked toward the corner.
Griselda was still watching. Her pussy shone wetter than before. A clear droplet had reached the cot beneath her. Her yellow eyes met his again, dark with want she refused to act on.
She finally managed to close her thighs, but the scent of her arousal stayed thick in the air.
Kessa managed a weak, satisfied laugh into the mattress.
"She lasted the whole time without touching herself. Impressive. Cruel, but impressive."
Kane reached down and stroked one hand along the length of her spine. Kessa shivered under the touch.
"Tomorrow," he said quietly.
"Marisa comes back. Grathak sends for me. And the whole street already knows exactly what kind of human walked into their empire."
Kessa turned her head just enough to look at him with one glassy eye.
"Good. Let them know. Now shut up and hold me until I can feel my legs again."
Kane pulled her limp body against his chest.
Outside, Berakamon kept murmuring. Inside, the three of them finally settled into exhausted silence.
Eventually, even Griselda's breathing evened out. Kane kept one arm around Kessa and one hand near Mjoldr, and let the night end.
Morning light filtered through the warped shutters in thin, dusty bars.
Kessa woke first, sore and thoroughly smug.
She stretched slowly on the ruined bed, wincing when certain muscles protested, then grinned at the ceiling like she had won something.
Griselda was already awake and dressed, sitting on the edge of the cot with her wings tightly folded and her expression carefully blank.
Kane sat up, rolled his shoulders, and began pulling on his clothes with the same pragmatic efficiency he applied to everything else.
Kessa watched him lace his trousers and gave a low, pleased hum.
"You look too calm for someone who broke a ranked beast in half last night."
"I'm calm because the alternative is listening to you gloat all morning."
"I earned the right to gloat."
She sat up carefully, striped hair a wild mess, and reached for her wrap.
"My legs still don't feel completely attached. That's a compliment."
Griselda stood without comment and moved to open the shutters fully. Fresh air and the noise of the waking street poured in. The moment the window opened, several beastkin below looked up toward their room with open interest.
Kane ignored them and finished dressing.
Mjoldr settled across his back with a familiar weight. The three of them left the room together.
The half-sheep innkeeper was waiting at the bottom of the stairs, woolly arms crossed and face set in deep disapproval. She held out a wooden tally stick covered in aggressive marks.
"Damage deposit. Noise complaint fee. Early-morning disturbance fee. And an extra charge for the floorboards that are now creaking in a way they did not creak yesterday. Total is sixty-two gold."
Kane looked at the stick, then at her.
"That's more than double what the room cost."
"You're lucky I'm not charging for the emotional damage to my other guests. Pay, or I call the street wardens and have you thrown out by the scruff."
Kane counted out the coins without further argument and dropped them into her waiting hand. The half-sheep woman blinked, clearly having expected a fight. Her ears flicked in confusion as she clutched the gold.
"You're… just paying?"
"I used the room. I pay for the room."
Kane stepped past her toward the door.
"Next time I'll break the bed on purpose so the charge makes sense."
Kessa snorted with laughter as they walked out into the morning street. Griselda followed in silence.
The entire avenue already knew.
Beastkin of every stripe and build turned to watch them pass. Nostrils flared openly when they caught Kessa's scent, sex, Kane, and the unmistakable mark of a female who had been thoroughly claimed the night before.
Whispers moved ahead of them like a wave. Some of the looks were hungry. Some were assessing.
A few of the higher-ranking females gave Kessa short, respectful nods.
They had almost reached the turn toward the residential district when a mid-ranking male stepped directly into Kane's path.
He was broad, wolf-marked, with a fresh scar across one cheek and the confident posture of someone used to winning small challenges.
"Human," the male said, loud enough for the street to hear.
"You made a lot of noise last night with one of your own. Some of us are wondering if you actually have the right to use her that publicly, or if you just got lucky while she was in heat."
Kessa's ears angled forward. Her voice stayed light, but the edge was clear.
"Careful. You're talking about me like I'm not standing right here."
The wolf-marked male kept his eyes on Kane.
"I'm talking to the one who was doing the using. If he's strong enough to back up that kind of claim, he can prove it. If not, he should keep his cock to himself in our streets."
Kane looked at him for a long moment, then handed Mjoldr to Griselda without a word.
The fallen angel took the axe and stepped back. Kessa moved to the side, arms crossed, watching with open interest.
The wolf-marked male grinned and rolled his shoulders.
"No weapons. Just hands. Let's see what the loud human is actually made of."
Kane didn't answer with words.
