She had blinked.

The loss of focus during the blink was used by Karn to complete ’Phantom Haze’.

Rei was confident she could see through the old man’s Phantom Haze if nothing had happened.

’Is this old man this good? Wasn’t he supposed to be blind? Was he really able to use that small timing to complete Phantom Haze? He must have gotten lucky!’ Rei reassured herself. It must have been a fluke. It had to be, or else she was dealing with a monster in front of her.

Karn was thinking as well. He had dismissed it without thought before but realized his mistake. How had Rei been able to comprehend and use Heavenly Thief Technique? The restriction on the martial art was clear.

50 Intelligence and 50 Agility requirements. Karn looked above Rei’s head again and it read ’Tier 3 - Warrior’ same as before.

Based on his experience with fighting Martial Warriors all day he had quickly realized the stats of a Tier 3. The same stats he started with 10 across the board. Tier 2 Warriors were twice as strong in stats and Tier 1 Warriors had 5 times the stats. Karn did not know how strong Peak rank warriors were yet.

No matter how you distribute Tier 3 50 overall stats it would be impossible to be able to use a restriction heavy martial art like Heavenly Thief Technique, leading to the current mystery about Rei.

’Were the restrictions higher for myself since I was able to learn the technique in an instant due to the system or was it Rei who was special enough to bypass the restrictions?’ Karn knew Rei did not have the stats necessary to use Heavenly Thief Technique, so it had to be one of the two hypotheses.

Before Karn could think about it any longer Rei gave an answer.

"Middle, the real body is in the middle." Rei said with a look of frustration.

"Incorrect, you have two more tries left" The middle and the right elderly figure dissolved into thin air.

Even if Rei had no clue whatsoever she had a 1/3 chance to guess correctly. Rei knew that and decided to just guess.

Rei opened her eyes wide and maintained focus as much as possible.

’Let’s try it, keke!’ Karn thought about the man who had taken both of his eyes in the war.

For a moment, the village disappeared.

He was no longer standing in Crane Village, he was back in Vietnam. The smell of smoke and the sound of gunfire. The hatred he had buried for decades resurfaced.

Suddenly an immense bloodlust and killing intent rushed out towards Rei.

Every instinct in her body screamed.

RUN! DEFEND! BLINK!

The fight or flight instinctively responded in Rei and so the body followed. Another blink.

Rei’s eyes opened wide once more but in front of her remained only 3 elderly figures.

"Keke, interesting. Something like that can be enhanced with Qi." Karn’s three bodies said in unison. Of course he was talking about killing intent.

’If an emotion like killing intent could be enhanced with Qi and spread outwardly could he not convey other things with Qi?’ Karn thought. He would have to understand the application of Qi later.

"Shit, th-that’s not fair!" Rei spoke in frustration. There was no way she was able to see through the technique with her getting distracted. She felt even more anxious as Shin was the next one in line to complete Karn’s test and if he guessed correctly she would have to stay behind as her little brother was taken away from her.

"Nothing in this world is fair young lady, the quicker you learn that the faster you will learn." The three Karn spoke while brushing their beards in an uncanny identical fashion.

"Shut up you old oaf, you think I don’t know that?" In fact who else would know that better than her. She was left at an orphanage with her little brother as early as she could remember. With no parental figure in her life to protect or provide for her she had to step up and do everything to survive for herself and more importantly for her little brother.

She had committed many crimes and hurt many people. If she was by herself her flame would have extinguished long ago. She had to keep going for Shin, her little brother.

"Keke, as loud as usual. Still got some spirit in you then." Karn spoke, chuckling lightly.

"The right one!" Rei spoke.

She had picked the middle once and Karn had appeared on the left. That would only leave the right figure untouched and subconsciously someone would gravitate towards that option. Rei reasoned with herself.

"Wrong again" Karn spoke from the left body again as the other two bodies dissipated into nothingness.

Rei’s face turned gloomier than ever before. She had one last chance left at becoming this monster’s disciple.

"Alright, last chance... Rei think about the intangible, not the tangible." Karn gave a piece of advice before he used killing intent enhanced by Qi again before employing Phantom Haze. Karn was confident Rei would be able to piece it together.

’Isn’t that the opposite of what I should be doing??’ Rei was perplexed. Her task was to find the real tangible body. How in the world was she going to find something that she can’t see?

Rei was stuck in a stupor and looked on and on. Her mind was running at max potential to figure out the puzzle the old man had given her.

’Could it be...?’ Rei thought, reaching an epiphany.

Karn was watching Rei while watching the three elderly figures that resembled Karn completely to the minute detail. This Heavenly Thief Technique was truly magical. Top tier in its own rank.

Suddenly Rei closed her eyes and a few moments later moved her feet.

------------

Shin was watching the whole ordeal.

Even though he wanted dearly to become the Elder’s disciple he was cheering on Rei just as much.

This was his older sister that he relied on for his whole childhood. If he wanted something she would move the world for him and she knew she was doing this test for him as well so he couldn’t imagine his sister failing here.

However, as soon as the test began her sister was wrong time and time again. He believed in her more than anything but he had started losing hope. He wanted to become this elder’s disciple and become strong enough to not need to put her sister’s life in danger due to his own weakness. He had realized this during his stay at the bandit camp.

He had seen the brutality of the cultivation world and understood his weakness more than anything.

Since the opportunity had shown he would do anything to become strong and protect her from danger.

Shin watched Rei as she closed her eyes. Shin looked at the 3 elderly figures and watched and saw nothing just like before. He had no clue whatsoever.

After a few minutes of complete silence Rei turned her body and moved forward and...

His big sister bowed profusely to the empty air in front of her.

"This disciple greets master!" Rei spoke.

Shin was befuddled. Why had her sister virtually given up on the test and instead bowed in front of the empty air.

"Keke, good good. I didn’t expect any less from my disciple" Karn appeared out of thin air in front of Rei as he deactivated myriad mirror martial art.

Shin watched in absolute jaw opening surprise.

"How did you figure it out Rei, pray tell your master" Karn spoke with a satisfied smile.

"Master dropped many hints, I am embarrassed to have taken so long" Rei spoke with a little triumphant smile on her face as well.
