"Master was subtly leaking his intent at his hidden position. The use of the killing intent was not only to distract me but also a reminder and the key to finding a Master. I was so focused on using my sight that I had forgotten my other senses. To find the intent was to find the intangible that the master spoke about since there was no real body to speak of. If not for the master’s advice I would have surely failed." Rei kowtowed once again in reverence.
"Good, good. Now it’s Shin boy’s turn." Karn spoke satisfied with her explanation as he turned his body towards Shin. Rei jumped a tiny bit knowing that this old demon’s tests were not simple. She prayed for Shin’s good fortunes.
"Yes Elder!" Shin was amazed at her big sister’s accomplishment. She was truly a genius beyond rival. Shin knew if he could not do something as impressive as her sister he would not be allowed into the Elder’s tutelage.
Shin walked up to Karn cautiously, wondering if the test had begun already somehow. The test from before had truly made him think a test like the one her sister had handled was awaiting him.
Karn had no such machinations in play. He opened his system inventory and simply took out a dagger obtained from the bandit camp earlier.

Shin walked up to the elder and bowed once again, afraid to offend Karn in any way.
The elder in front of him removed a dagger out of his wide sleeves.
Shin was ready, he had figured the test would involve some sort of combat as he watched the dagger.
Karn gave the dagger to Shin and simply introduced the test without the slightest bit of emotion in his voice.
"Shin, your test is to see as I do. Failure will result in you not being accepted."
"WHAT!?!" The one who had said in surprise wasn’t Shin but Rei herself.
The implication was clear. The dagger and the task. He was told to stab his eyes out himself and become blind just like the old monster.
To tell one to stab his own eyes was tantamount to telling one to commit seppuku in the world of cultivation.
Silence...
One could see Shin’s forehead precipitate with sweat that ran down all the way to his chin.
"Shin stop right now, don’t listen to him." Rei spoke with the coldest tone. Fury could be seen burning wild in her eyes as she looked upon the old man she called master moments ago.
Shin’s eyes wavered. The hint of determination and fury from before had been sizzled out completely.
"Is this as far as your determination to protect your big sister goes little Shin? Will you settle with the status quo or will you change yourself and the heavens themselves?" Karn spoke but his attention was on Shin. Rather his attention was on every muscle, they were being observed by Karn to the smallest twitch or motion using God’s Eye.
Truthfully, Karn had no need of God’s Eye to understand Shin’s thoughts currently. The reason he was watching so intently was a different reason altogether.
Those words spoke to Shin’s very soul. The embers of the fire that represented his determination and fury suddenly changed once more. The memories and the feeling of weakness and anger that surrounded him every day in that bandit camp resurfaced once more.
Just like flint to tinder, the flame burned once again more brightly than ever before.
Then came the fear like water to the flame. His hands shook.
"Truth be told I’m afraid. More afraid than any day in that jail with those men. More afraid than any day in that orphanage with Rei." Shin spoke with a look of helplessness loosening the grip on the dagger.
"But if... If I stop here, then when will I ever be proud of the man I am. A man who sits and lets his sister protect him at every corner! A man who lets his sister suffer to protect his weakness!" Shin tightened his grip on the dagger until his hand ached. Tears and sweat mixed together at the base of his chin.
"Master, I truly thank you for this opportunity. I will not waste it." And so Shin moved his arms that held the dagger and shoved them into his eye.
"SHIN NOO!!!" Rei screamed and ran towards Shin with tears running down her face, she watched in terror the most horrifying scene in her life.

Far outside Crane Village lay the Dragon’s Rest City. Considered to be a headquarters of the Dragon Meteor Sect widely regarded as one of the top four sects in the province.
Currently, a chess match is occurring between two young masters in the inner courtyard of the Dragon Meteor Sect.
On the left, a young master known as Xiao Feng. The young man had bright red hair and a muscular body that exuded unparalleled strength in the same rank. Scars could be seen on every inch of his body, in fact many had whispered that it would be more interesting to find a spot that didn’t have a scar.
On the right, sat the young master also known as Xiao Chen. The young man had blue hair and a slender body. The eye slits of the man were so thin that a straight line could be used to represent the man’s eyes perfectly. A snake was wrapped around his neck like a scarf.
The game of chess had already broken into the mid game. Pieces looked like they were scattered everywhere but the main focus of the players wasn’t on the chess pieces but on each other.
"Xiao Chen, I heard one of your people tried poaching the third elder onto your side yesterday. I suppose I should return the greeting as well then." Xiao Feng gestured to the servant beside him.
The servant standing nervously understood the message and ran towards the carriage outside the courtyard to obtain the ceremonial box.
The servant hurriedly returned and placed the box beside the chess board in front of Xiao Chen.
Xiao Chen moved his hand from the chess to the box and opened the box in an unhurried manner. The rotten smell from the inside suffocated the surroundings instantly.
Xiao Chen knew what it was. The head of the man he had sent to poach the third elder of the inner sect of the Dragon Meteor Sect.
"Truly your arrogance knows no bounds Xiao Feng, do you think just because father’s health is perilous you can run rampant in the sect and attain the sect head seat? Foolish brute." Xiao Chen said emotionlessly. The snake on his neck snarled in contempt alongside its master.
