"What?? Y-You mean that one of the 4 young masters of the mighty Dragon Meteor Sect is at our village doorsteps?" The village elder said in surprise.
"I speak no lie village elder, a carriage bearing the Dragon Meteor Sect’s emblem stopped outside Crane Village and the carriage coachman informed me that the Young Master had come here personally." The young man replied respectfully.
Crane village was inside the territory of the Dragon Meteor Sect so naturally the villagers should be happy about the arrival of a young master of the sect arriving personally at their village. But instead the villagers started panicking.
The cause of this visit could not be anything good. The sect members of Dragon Meteor had no reason to come strolling to Crane village without reason. From experience contact with the sect had never turned out to be for the better.
"What should we do elder?" The young man asked hurriedly.
"We have no choice but to meet the Dragon Meteor Sect convoy..." The elder said, strengthening his resolve.
The village elder looked towards Karn and bowed.
"This humble one asks the savior for a favor. I request that in the worst case of the annihilation of the village please protect the children and the women of the village during your stay at the village." The village elder asked humbly knowing he had no power to ask Karn of anything after all he had done for them.
"I will do what I can." Karn said as he stroked his beard in interest.
’It seems this Dragon Meteor Sect is a pretty tyrannical entity.’ Karn thought as he observed the villagers’ reactions.
"Village elder I happen to be a wanderer that happened to come upon this village, while you meet the young master I would like you to dispatch one of your men to help me understand the situation in this region of the world." Karn said to the Village Elder.
"Understood savior, I will immediately send over one of the most knowledgeable villagers to help you immediately, now then please excuse me." The village elder whispered something to the young man beside him and went ahead towards the village entrance.
The village elder thought nothing much about the lack of knowledge of Karn. He had come upon many cultivators that were wanderers looking to broaden their horizons during his time as a village elder.
Karn made his way into the Village center, many villagers who were scared felt a little more assured as they saw Karn. This was the elderly man who had destroyed the Tier 1 Black Fang Bandits all by himself.
A middle aged man with a noticeable scar on his shoulder walked up to Karn and bowed respectfully.
"Greetings Elder, the village elder has dispatched me to come help you with any questions you may have." The man spoke.
"Good lad, come here and give me a general overview about the region and any important information you may know that might help me during my stay here." Karn spoke.
"Yes Elder, the Sichuan region currently inhabits four titanic sects that control the entire province. Each one of these sects are controlled by the Sect Heads and Grand Elders who are both Peak Tier cultivators. There is the Dragon Meteor Sect, who the Crane village is under the influence of. They have ruled these lands since before my grandfather was born." The middle aged man spoke.
"For that long...?" Shin said surprisingly.
"This is my first time hearing this as well." Rei said with a hint of surprise.
"Their composition is a combination of a sect and clan. They act mostly like a sect in which they hold a yearly test for talented individuals like my cousin from 5 years ago who was admitted into the sect as an outer disciple. They have the same hierarchy as you would expect in a normal sect but the top brass which consists of the Sect head, grand elder and young master position consists entirely of familial lineage." The middle aged man said.
"Does that mean...?" Shin muttered.
"Yes, the top stays at the top and the rest stay below them." Rei said in response.
"A meritocracy built under a monarchy then." Karn said deep in thought. Information about this world was truly quite interesting to Karn.
"They are not evil but they’re not saints either. Their tempers burn as hot as the flames they wield. If you disrespect the sect or bring shame upon its lands, even the kindest elder won’t show mercy. But if you live honestly and pay your respects, you’ll not find any trouble with them. As always there are exceptions." The middle aged man said as he looked towards the village entrance.
"As for the other three sects, I have little knowledge of them. They are known as the Frost Moon Palace in the north that inhabits mainly female cultivators, the exact opposite of the Dragon Meteor Sect which inhabits mostly men. There is also the Emerald Bamboo Sect hidden in the forests of the east and the Thunder Peak Hall in the West that safeguards the province from the beast tides." The middle aged man finished his explanation.
"They’re all ruled by Peak Tier cultivators?" Shin asked in surprise while blindfolded.
"They must be pretty strong then." Rei remarked together.
Karn nodded happily as well thinking about the many cultivators he could fight in this world.
"Has anyone ever surpassed Peak Tier?" Karn asked immediately.
"Peak Tier is the end of martial warriors... or so we’re told." The man replied respectfully.
"Thank you for the help young man, I won’t hold you up any longer." Karn spoke.
"No thank you Elder, the pleasure has been all mine."
Just then a man came running towards the Village center.
"The Dragon Meteor Sect young master has come to inquire about the one who destroyed the Black Fang Bandits!" The man said loudly.
"The young master of the Dragon Meteor Sect has come to seek Master?!?" Shin said in surprise.
Even Rei looked nervous.
"Koko, this is quite interesting. Well, let’s go meet the young man who makes this grandpa move his tired body to greet him." Karn spoke with a hearty laugh.
