Old Blind Man in a Cultivation World
Chapter 38: Disciple Rei vs Disciple Cai!A few moments later, Rei stood in front of Disciple Cai in the arena of the Martial Exchange Hall.
The disciples surrounding the arena whispered among themselves, their voices carrying through the hall.
"Disciple Cai is a peak Tier Three Martial Warrior while Elder Karn’s disciple has only recently reached Tier Three."
Elder Mu, who stood behind Xiao Yu’s faction, smiled faintly at her disciple’s comment. To her, the outcome of the battle was favorable either way.
If Cai won, the accusation against Shin would remain. The Fourth Young Master’s position would suffer another blow, while the Second Young Master’s influence would remain untouched.
If Rei won however that would mean the Second Young Master’s disciple had been caught attempting to frame the personal disciple of another faction.
Elder Mu’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Such a result would be disastrous for Xiao Chen.
Across the arena, Elder Wang seemed equally interested in the outcome, though for entirely different reasons. He was excited to see a fight between two true disciples of the elders. A disciple of an elder at the level of Tier One Martial Warrior was essentially a perfectly crafted ideal of their beliefs.
’Koko...’ Karn was listening to the commotion as well, understanding the way of cultivators while his blind eyes remained fixed toward the arena.
"Master, will Rei be alright?" Shin whispered from beside him, worried for his sister.
"Koko... you should be asking whether that fellow will be alright." His lips curled into a faint smile.
"Why?" Shin tilted his head.
"Because your sister is angry." Karn’s smile widened.
Inside the arena, Rei stared silently at Cai.
Her expression was completely different from when she had investigated the herb garden. There was no confusion or hesitation. Only cold determination.
Disciple Cai noticed it as well and spoke. "You really believe you can defeat me?" he asked.
Rei slowly lowered herself into a fighting stance without replying.
Cai looked at Rei’s posture and wondered ’Does she really think she has a chance? She is just a greenhorn.’
The surrounding voices immediately grew louder until Elder Mo raised his hand.
"Both combatants, prepare yourselves." His gaze swept over Rei and Cai.
"Remember the rules of the Martial Hall. The victor’s claim shall be recognized as the truth." The hall fell silent.
"Begin."
Disciple Cai steadied himself as he slowly drew his sword. His eyes scanned Rei, waiting for her to make the first move.
He had reached the peak of Tier Three. Among the outer sect disciples of the sect, this cultivation was enough to place him near the top.
Across from Disciple Cai, Rei stood empty-handed.
"Have you admitted defeat already?" Disciple Cai scoffed at the lack of seriousness from Rei.
Rei answered by shooting out. Her body moved with a speed incomparable with normal humans.
Cai’s pupils contracted but he remained calm.
’Fast!’ He thought about his opponent as he raised his sword to meet the girl head-on.
Rei twisted at the last possible moment changing her attack angle. The palm aimed at Disciple Cai’s shoulder.
The blade moved swiftly to counter the palm. As the two met the difference in strength became apparent. Rei’s palm reinforced with Qi was blown away.
Rei calmly used the momentum of the hand blown away to twist her body. The twist brought along with it a leg that moved much faster than expected landing squarely on disciple Cai’s arm.
The kick left a noticeable bruise, but Cai ignored the pain and used the opening to launch his own attack.
The sword moved towards Rei as she withdrew her leg back. The sword which should have landed was met with air.
Rei’s body turned into mist showcasing the Heavenly Thief technique. Disciple Cai’s eyes widened in surprise, completely wiping his smirk.
A fist struck the side of his stomach. Another, then another. Disciple Cai screamed in pain as he backed away in a panic but the flurry of fists and palm strikes did not slow.
Every time a fist came his way it dissolved into a mist before it hit him squarely in the body or face.
Each palm strike came with a cold anger that was being released from Rei with an emotionless expression.
"Sh-She’s learned a martial technique!!" Someone exclaimed. The elders and the remaining disciples were also shocked.
A tier three martial warrior was a greenhorn in the realm of cultivation. Martial techniques were advanced outputs of Qi that required a certain threshold of power to be able to wield them. Thus, only tier two warriors were able to use such techniques that took years to learn. A tier three warrior like Rei already learning and using a martial technique with such efficiency was very astounding.
Cai’s breathing became ragged, each breath scraping painfully through his chest. Every time his sword moved toward Rei, her body dissolved into mist. Every time he tried to retreat, she was already there.
He swung his sword horizontally.
Rei’s upper body bent backward unnaturally, the blade passing inches above her face. Before Cai could recover, her palm struck his chest.
BANG!
His body was sent sliding several meters across the arena.
’This isn’t possible. She’s only just reached Tier Three!’ He gritted his teeth as he tried steadying himself wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.
Disciple Cai’s eyes narrowed slightly as he thought about the current situation. A Tier three Martial Warrior was still considered a greenhorn in the realm of cultivation. Martial techniques required immense physical and Qi control, and most disciples only began learning them after reaching Tier Two. Even the greatest geniuses of the sect rarely attempted them before reaching the peak of Tier Three.
A deep breath escaped disciple Cai’s mouth as he steadied his mind.
The attack pattern from Rei had been simple. Her strike would dissolve before the other strike would land squarely on his body.
’So what if she has learned a measly martial technique. Watch this...’ Disciple Cai thought as he planted his feet on the ground.
His eyes scanned Rei and so did Rei.
An attack came just as before, the palm strike went straight for disciple Cai’s body. Unlike before, where he would defend himself from the strike, this time he stood without regard for the palm and readied himself for the next incoming attack.
’I’ve got you now!’ He smirked to himself, remarking at his adaptability.
BANG!
Disciple Cai’s chin met head long with the palm. His mind dipped in and out of consciousness until he fell on the ground.
