Old Blind Man in a Cultivation World
Chapter 43: Sect Library! The First One!The quest that had appeared was not something that could be completed quickly. It would require months.
’Koko! So the system also offers long term goals...’ Karn thought to himself.
Rei and Shin quickly went to their rooms to complete their master’s task and learn their cultivation techniques.
Karn left the courtyard at this time and left for the Sect Library. Karn’s biggest weakness currently was the lack of knowledge in this world. The Sect library could supplement his capabilities greatly.
Karn walked all the way to the Sect Library as instructed by the guard on duty. Relishing his attainment of the dao in everything he saw. He could glimpse the age of objects.
Eventually, Karn stopped at the Sect Market where many disciples were selling wares and herbs that they collected from their adventures. He stood in front of a blacksmith shop that sold ordinary blades.
As Karn inspected the wares his fingers brushed across a blade.
Suddenly, countless impressions flashed through his mind. The sword being forged. The hammer striking molten metal. The time it was nothing more than an ore and the countless years it had spent in waiting until a human was able to mold it into a genuine sword.
Karn withdrew his hand. A touch of joy appeared on his face, like a child discovering how to draw for the first time. He could not actually see the past. Rather, he could sense the traces left behind by the passage of time.
Many disciples who saw Karn whispered among themselves after bowing in respect. Many had heard the rumors about the blind elder who had fought Zhao Long.
A massive pavilion came into view as Karn kept walking. It was much grander in scale than most libraries in his past life. It housed three floors each labeled, General, Yellow and Black.
Karn immediately walked in front of the main reception hall of the library where an elder sat sipping wine.
As soon as the elder saw Karn he immediately stood up, wiping away his drunken state with the help of Qi.
"Elder Karn, good to meet you friend. I have heard many rumors about you, it seems they are not exaggerations at all." The elder spoke with a smile as he observed Karn.
"Good to meet you as well, Elder Song. You praise me too much. I am in need of knowledge regarding some matters. Don’t mind me at all." Karn glanced at the identity plaque of the elder before speaking. The library plaque appeared out of thin air in front of Karn before it made its way to Elder Song.
"Mhm. The allocated time is three months. I will start your time now." The elder nodded as he saw the plaque.
Elder song took out a formation plaque from his storage ring as well. As he chanelled his Qi through the formation plaque, an hourglass conjured from Qi appeared. The sand started flowing into the bottom part of the hourglass.
Karn nodded with a smile and entered the Sect library first floor.
The first floor had bookshelves that spanned as much the eye could see. Each categorized into different sections depending on the topics.
Karn immediately went to the cultivation and the history section picking up books of interest. Once he was satisfied, he brought the stack of books to an empty desk and sat down.
Knowledge regarding the machinations of cultivation and its origins were quite hard to follow as it was spread too thin but one thing was true. Cultivation of power ruled the world no matter which era it originated in.
The first cultivator in the books was known as the ’The First One’ a legendary figure like the King Arthur from his previous life. The heavens had provided him with a great understanding of the Dao and with it also a generous heart. The First One’s strength brought many men to follow in his footsteps using the cultivation techniques created by him.
His trusted aides, however, eventually betrayed him at a critical juncture in his cultivation, ultimately leading to his death. His epics were numerous and littered everywhere in the library but no one knew if any of them were true or had any tether to reality.
Karn slowly turned the page. The following Chapters spoke of the rise of countless cultivation schools, the establishment of the first sects, and the gradual division of cultivation into different realms.
The further Karn read, the less convincing the history became. Different books gave completely different accounts of the same events. One described ’The First One’ as a benevolent sage who sought nothing but to guide humanity. Another claimed he had been an ambitious tyrant who attempted to challenge the heavens.
A third claimed that The First One had never existed at all.
"Koko... cultivators are just as bad at keeping historical records as humans are." Karn scratched his beard
He placed the book aside and picked up another that focused on the Dao.
Karn’s expression immediately became serious. The book explained that the Dao was not simply a collection of techniques. It was an understanding of the fundamental laws governing the world.
Fire, Water, Sword, Life, Death, Time and Space. Each Dao could be understood through different paths, and the deeper one’s understanding became, the greater the changes they could impose upon reality.
’As I thought... The Dao is not power itself. It is understanding of this world.’ Karn’s fingers slowly tightened around the book.
He continued reading. Most cultivators spent their entire lives without achieving even Initial Attainment in a single Dao. Upon reaching Tier One, a cultivator would obtain initial understanding of a Dao. Comprehending the Dao afterwards was completely dependent on the cultivator’s opportunities and talent; not at all reliant on the cultivation level.
As for those who completely comprehended a Dao. The book simply stated that such individuals could no longer be considered Human.
He turned another page before his expression soon became strange. The section regarding the Dao of Time was surprisingly short.
’Why is there so little information?’ Karn frowned.
He searched through several other books. The result was the same. Every book contained only fragmented information. Some claimed that the Dao of Time was impossible to cultivate. Others claimed that time itself was controlled by the heavens and another ancient manuscript went even further.
’Those who attempt to grasp the River of Time will eventually be washed away by it.’ The sentence was written in amazing calligraphy.
"Koko... What a troublesome Dao." Karn simply smiled and placed the book down.
