Old Blind Man in a Cultivation World
Chapter 63: Enchanting and Possesion!"Keep answering the other questions first, stingy young lady," Karn said begrudgingly.
The green-haired woman nodded with a smile before continuing. "Once a person uses the Dream Plane and successfully contracts a beast, they can bring that beast back to the Human Plane. From there, they can make use of either Enhancement or Possession."
"This here is where the beast I contracted is stored." She nodded toward the Oni standing beside her before reaching down and picking up the mask hanging from her waist.
"Once I put it on my face..." She lifted the mask slightly. She paused, then slipped the Oni mask over her features.
"...like this."
The moment the mask settled onto her face, it suddenly merged with her flesh. Karn’s expression grew serious. A powerful surge of energy erupted from the woman’s body. Her stats skyrocketed, rising to the level of a high Tier One cultivator but it wasn’t merely her strength that had changed.
Her human features remained, but the skeletal and muscular structure beneath them transformed dramatically. Her limbs thickened, her frame became heavier, and her muscles swelled with unnatural strength.
In only a few breaths, the woman looked almost identical to the Oni standing beside her.
"This is called Enchanting..." Her newly formed, brute-like face twitched as she spoke, the unfamiliar expression making her words sound strangely distorted.
Karn silently observed every change. After a moment, the woman reached up and removed the mask, causing the transformation to immediately begin receding. Her enlarged muscles contracted, her bones shifted back into place, and her monstrous frame gradually returned to its original human form.
Within moments, the Oni-like appearance had vanished completely. Only the green-haired woman remained, standing before Karn as if nothing had happened.
"As to how to learn Mystic Techniques..." The green-haired woman paused.
"You can only learn them after forming a contract with a Mystic Beast."
"Only after?" Karn raised an eyebrow.
"That’s right." She tapped the Oni mask hanging from her waist.
"Mystic Techniques aren’t like Martial Techniques. You can’t simply read a manual, memorize the movements, and expect to master them."
"Then how?"
"Your contracted beast becomes your teacher." The woman smiled.
"The stronger your connection with your beast becomes, the more Mystic Energy you can draw from it. Eventually, that connection allows you to develop Mystic Techniques." Karn’s expression changed slightly.
"Enchanting is the technique I developed through my contract with this Oni. By merging with it, I borrow its body and strength." She pointed towards the mask.
"Possession is different. Instead of borrowing the beast’s body..." Her smile widened.
"...you allow the beast to borrow yours."
’So that’s how it worked.’ Karn fell silent. Martial Arts relied on one’s own cultivation. Mystic Arts relied on the bond between a cultivator and their beast.
"Though..." The green-haired woman suddenly sighed.
"What?" Karn glanced toward her.
"I haven’t mastered possession yet."
"...You are a Tier One Mystic Cultivator and you can’t use Possession?" Karn’s eyebrow rose in surprise.
"Yes. There are some things even geniuses can’t rush." She scratched her head awkwardly.
Karn nodded, understanding her point.
’So even among Tier One Mystic Cultivators, there are differences in mastery.’ He stroked his beard before another thought came to mind.
"Since I have already made a contract with the Ethereal Eye, does that mean I can use Mystic Techniques as well?" At the question the woman immediately extended her hand. A smug smile appeared on her face.
Karn’s face twitched.
"Stingy hag..." With a sigh, he pulled out another pouch containing twenty spirit stones.
"Let me rephrase." He tossed the pouch toward her.
"How do I actually learn Mystic Techniques and Dream Plane?" The woman caught the pouch effortlessly.
"And who is this ’us’ that you keep speaking of?"
"Calling me a hag when you’ve already taken a step into the grave." She tucked the spirit stones away with a satisfied smile.
"Are you going to answer or not?" A vein bulged on Karn’s forehead.
"Keke." The woman chuckled before finally answering.
"Learning the Dream Plane is actually quite simple. Once you fall asleep, focus on the Mystic Energy in the air. Use it to guide your consciousness into the Dream Plane."
Karn’s expression became serious.
"However, take this as your first and last warning." Her smile disappeared.
"If you die in the Dream Plane..." She paused.
"...you die in the real world."
Karn’s eyes narrowed. So the Dream Plane wasn’t some harmless dream.
"As for the other Mystic Techniques, such as the concealment technique I used earlier..." She shrugged.
"You can only learn them if you find them within the Dream Plane."
"Why?"
"We cannot teach them to you." She gave Karn an apologetic smile.
"That’s one of the rules of the Dream Plane."
Karn frowned slightly. Rules that even Mystic Cultivators couldn’t break?
’Interesting.’ He thought.
He decided not to dwell on it for now. Instead, he returned to the question that had been bothering him.
"Who is ’us’?"
"Besides the four great sects, there is another sect known as the Mystic Dream Sect." The woman’s expression became slightly more serious.
"We live between the territories of the four sects. We don’t have any lofty ambitions to conquer the world or anything like that." She shrugged.
"Since we have been blessed with the ability to learn Mystic Techniques, all we want is to find more people like us..." Her eyes shifted toward Karn.
"...and uncover the secrets of the Dream Plane."
"I see." Karn nodded slowly.
"Then why have you shown up here?" His fingers tapped lightly against his cane.
The green-haired woman chuckled.
"That question is off limits."
"Even ten spirit stones won’t make you answer?" Karn’s surprise was genuine.
"I got paid too much to reveal my reasons for being here." The woman smiled.
’Paid?’ Karn’s eyes narrowed. Someone had paid her to come to the Sect. There was only one reason Karn could think of.
’The Succession War...’ He thought.
"Koko..." Karn fell deep into thought.
There were too many unanswered questions. The Mystic Dream Sect and the Dream Plane. And now someone had apparently paid this woman to come to the Dragon Meteor Sect.
"Well, before you leave..." He looked back toward her.
He paused.
"What is your name?"
The woman simply extended her hand once again. A shit-eating grin spread across her face. Karn’s face darkened.
"Stingy!!" His voice echoed through the area.
"Get out of here! As if knowing your name is worth ten spirit stones!" For once, Karn’s anger was genuine.
The green-haired woman laughed as she turned around.
"Well, forty spirit stones just to answer a few questions." She shook the pouch at her waist.
"Keke. I really am too smart." She started walking away.
Clink.
Clink.
Clink.
With every step, the sound of spirit stones knocking against one another rang through the air. As if deliberately rubbing salt into Karn’s wounds.
"That damned stingy woman..." Karn’s face twitched.
He could only watch as her figure gradually disappeared from sight.
