Old Blind Man in a Cultivation World

Chapter 64: Contest Paused! Dream Plane!

As the woman disappeared, Karn’s anger dissipated, and his usual self returned.

"Koko... How interesting. I thought I had understood as much as there was to understand about this world, but the mysteries keep building." Karn brushed his beard in delight.

Truthfully, Karn did not care much for the spirit stones. They weren’t his in the first place. He had acquired them from Elder Cho of the Martial Hall, and money was there to be spent. What interested him was the information he had gained.

For the past month, he had thought the ethereal eye he possessed was completely unique due to the skill. Instead, it appeared his skill was entirely replicable by another individual. He had taught Shin the skill ’Night’s Eye’ but the ethereal eye was not something that could be taught or sensed by way of Qi sense.

This had led to Karn assuming the Ethereal Eye was something completely unique to himself. He had been mistaken, he did not consider the fact there was another system of unnatural abilities in this world.

’Contracted Mystic Beast...’ Karn stroked his beard. If the green-haired woman was correct, then the Ethereal Eye following him everywhere wasn’t merely a strange phenomenon. It was a living existence and somehow, without even realizing it, he had formed a contract with it.

"Koko..." Karn chuckled.

There was no point in dwelling over it now though. He would understand the mechanics behind mystic beasts and cultivation soon enough.

No....

....He needed to understand it. The fact that the green-haired woman could become completely invisible to his senses was dangerous enough. Karn had always relied heavily on his senses and intuition. To discover that there was a power capable of bypassing both was something he could not ignore.

Especially when his intuition told him that the woman would participate in the Succession War a week from now, just like him.

’There are still too many unknown variables. Unknown variables are the only things that can kill you no matter how prepared you may be.’ Karn’s fingers tapped against his cane.

The rest of the day continued as expected. The remaining matches played out one after another. A few dark horses emerged, while several disciples performed far beyond what the crowd had expected of them.

None managed to catch Karn’s attention. By the time the sun began to set, the final matches had concluded. Suddenly, the grand formation hanging above the arena lit up. A booming voice echoed throughout all of the arenas.

Due To Certain Circumstances, The Next Stage Of The Contest Will Resume In Two Weeks!

The announcement was made and its meaning was clear. With the Succession War approaching, all available hands were required to remain within the sect. If the other great sects attempted to take advantage of the conflict and attack Dragon Meteor Sect, the sect needed every disciple and elder available to defend it.

Karn nodded.

For the others, this postponement was a matter of sect security.

But it had nothing to do with Karn. His mind was already focused on one thing. The upcoming Succession War.

’One week. There is still plenty of time.’ Karn’s eyes gleamed.

As Karn descended from his elevated platform, he spotted Rei and Shin standing together near the edge of the rest area. Both were eating spirit meat skewers.

"Master, these are so delicious..." Shin said happily as he took another bite. Rei gave a slight nod before continuing to eat.

Karn’s mouth watered as he glanced toward the remaining skewers. Then toward his empty pockets, his expression immediately became solemn. He couldn’t justify spending any more spirit stones.

"We saved some for you, Master." Shin smiled happily as he held out an untouched skewer.

"Koko... I knew I raised you two wel—MHHM!" Karn took a bite.

His eyes widened. The flavor immediately flooded his taste buds. An involuntary sound of pleasure escaped the elderly man’s mouth.

"Cough!" Karn quickly cleared his throat and straightened his posture, pretending nothing had happened.

"Hehe." Shin leaned toward Rei.

"I told you he’d like it." A faint chuckle escaped both siblings.

"The taste is barely adequate," Karn said, his face carrying a faint blush of embarrassment.

"It would only be improved by some good tea."

"Master, we knew you’d say that." Shin’s smile widened as he pulled out another item.

"Look! We got Thousand-Year Spirit Bamboo Tea." Rei revealed a slight smile as well.

"Hehe..." Karn’s eyes lit up.

"Truly, my disciples are the best." He walked over and ruffled both of their heads.

Just as Karn’s hand passed over Shin’s hair, two tiny bugs crawled from Shin’s clothes. They moved so quickly that even Karn’s senses failed to detect them. Both of them burrowed into his left ear. Neither Karn nor his disciples noticed anything.

The three of them soon entered their personal carriage and began making their way back to their residence.

"You two did well today." Karn stroked his beard as he spoke.

"This disciple merely followed Master’s instructions." "Me too!" Rei and Shin answered almost simultaneously.

"You’ve improved, but you still have a long way to go." Karn nodded approvingly.

"Training will continue as soon as we return." His lips curled into a mischievous smile.

The smiles on both disciples immediately stiffened. They exchanged a glance. Their master truly was a madman when it came to training.

The sun gradually disappeared beyond the horizon and the moon rose in its place. After another round of brutal training, Rei and Shin finally returned to their rooms.

Karn remained alone in the training grounds. He stood beneath the moonlight, cane resting against his shoulder.

’It’s time.’ Karn closed his eyes. He recalled the strange sensation the green-haired woman had shown him earlier. Mystic Energy, he reached out with his senses, searching for it.

At first, there was nothing, only darkness but Karn didn’t give up. He focused deeper. And deeper until a faint ripple emerged within his perception.

Karn’s brows rose. Mystic Energy. It was so faint that he could have easily mistaken it for an illusion. Unlike Qi, which surged through his body with a domineering force, Mystic Energy felt almost weightless. It was like a ripple spreading across a perfectly still lake.

Karn slowly reached toward it with his consciousness. The moment he touched the strange energy, his Ethereal Eye suddenly shook.
