One Piece: Alucard the Immortal

Chapter 777 - 776: Target: Charlotte Linlin

Inside the private quarters of the Fire Tank Pirates aboard the Queen Mama Chanter, Capone Bege sat in the center of a plush sofa. Before him sat a Den Den Mushi with a fiery red mohawk. Picking up the receiver, Bege spoke, "Kid, I’m heading in to see Big Mom shortly to convince her to accept your ’submission.’ Be on your best behavior when you enter."

From the red-mohawked receiver came the voice of Captain Eustass Kid. "Heh heh heh! I thought you’d become Big Mom’s lapdog for real, but I didn’t think you’d be hiding such a deep hand. This time, Big Mom’s head is as good as mine."

"Keep a lid on that temper," Bege warned. "If even a single detail of the plan goes sideways, we’re all dead. The Sweet Commanders and Ministers will swarm us before Big Mom even has to lift a finger."

"Shut it!" Kid barked a blunt response and slammed down the receiver.

"Godfather, that Kid brat has a terrible attitude. Is he going to cause trouble?" Gotti asked worriedly.

"Hmph. Either way, he’s the one who will take the fall if things go south," Bege sneered.

The Queen Mama Chanter pulled alongside the dock of Whole Cake Island. Even though this vessel represented the supreme authority of the Big Mom Pirates, everyone was required to disembark for inspection.

Sensing the unusual tension in the air, Bege exhaled a puff of smoke and asked the mustachioed guard responsible for the registry, "What’s going on? Why is the atmosphere so stiff?"

"Oh, apologies, Bege-sama." The guard lowered his voice as he spoke. "Actually, two days ago, Urouge, Captain of the Fallen Monk Pirates, defeated Snack-sama, one of the Sweet Commanders. Though Mama has already taken revenge and wiped out those Fallen Monk fools, the shame of a Sweet Commander falling... well, it’s going to linger for a while."

Snack lost to Urouge?

Bege’s eye twitched slightly. Two Sweet Commanders were already dead; if Snack was down too, that left only Katakuri and Cracker as the remaining Sweet Commanders. However, a decline in Big Mom’s military strength suited his own interests perfectly.

Thud... thud...

A series of heavy footsteps approached. Seeing the figure, the registration guard hurriedly stood at attention and bowed. "Ah, Katakuri-sama! Thank you for your hard work!"

That bastard Alucard is definitely here for Big Mom, but I have to watch my back with him too, Bege thought privately with concern. He turned back to the guard. "The registration is complete. I’m going to see Mama now to report on the events of this voyage."

"Mama said that once Bege-sama and Katakuri-sama return, they should both come to see her," the guard added.

Bege broke into a sudden cold sweat.

It was no problem for him to go, that was part of the plan. But the "Katakuri" standing there wasn’t the real deal. How could Alucard possibly obey Big Mom’s orders?

Sure enough, Alucard ignored the guard entirely, turning to walk in a completely different direction.

The guard blinked, about to shout a reminder to the departing back, but Bege moved faster to stop him. "Katakuri suffered heavy injuries after clashing with Alucard the Immortal. Don’t go sticking your nose in where it doesn’t belong. My report will be more than enough."

The guard was just a lowly pawn. He had no right to question the conduct of high-ranking officers like Bege or Katakuri. Hearing Bege’s explanation, he didn’t press the matter and went back to his duties.

Hey, hey... just don’t blow my cover, Bege prayed silently.

He had already resolved himself and made extensive preparations for this assassination. If Alucard was exposed, Bege would be trapped in the very heart of Totto Land with no hope of escape. But he couldn’t control Alucard; he could only pray that nothing went wrong.

...

Alucard strolled through the streets of Whole Cake Island. Every resident who saw him stopped what they were doing to wave and offer greetings. Fortunately, Katakuri was a man of few words by nature, so Alucard’s silence didn’t arouse any suspicion.

"Long time no see, Katakuri-nii! Thank you for the hard work on the Caesar mission."

A young woman with light-brown hair approached Alucard with a smile. Her bangs covered her forehead, and her hair was tied in pigtails on either side, a very beautiful young girl. This was Charlotte Pudding, the thirty-fifth daughter of the Charlotte Family and the apple of Big Mom’s eye.

Seeing Pudding’s face, Alucard recalled the photograph Vito had shown him earlier. Pudding was the one set to marry Sanji of the Straw Hat crew, wasn’t she?

"Ah, you’ve heard the news, right? I’m the one marrying that idiot cook from the Straw Hats. When the time comes, I’m going to put a bullet right through him at the wedding."

As she spoke, Pudding’s demure, "girl-next-door" smile vanished completely, replaced by a look of sheer malice.

Alucard had already witnessed this scene through his top-tier Observation Haki’s ability to see into the future.

"Is that so? That is indeed... something to look forward to," Alucard said with a smile.

With that, Alucard turned and walked away. Pudding blinked a few times in confusion.

Katakuri... does he usually say things like ’something to look forward to’? As someone who could see briefly into the future, she remembered him being much more stoic.

Though it was a slight slip-up, Pudding didn’t dwell on it. She immediately went to prepare for the wedding; she still had to maintain a "good impression" for Black Leg Sanji.

...

Meanwhile, inside Big Mom’s room, Charlotte Linlin expressed slight surprise after hearing Bege’s report. "What? Alucard was at Gran Tesoro? According to my intel, shouldn’t he be in the South Blue?"

"The intel was wrong, or perhaps it’s one of Alucard’s own abilities. Katakuri was seriously injured in the battle with Alucard and isn’t fit to see you yet. Please don’t take it to heart, Mama."

Bege felt a pang of guilt as he spoke, but fortunately, Charlotte Linlin didn’t care. She waved a hand dismissively. "Hahaha! To survive a clash with Alucard is an achievement in itself. He should rest."

Actually, he’s already doing that, eternally, Bege thought to himself. He continued aloud, "Mama, those Kid brats have been lured in. They’ve been harassing the outskirts of our territory for two years; this time, we can wipe them out in one go."
