Chapter 387: The Berserk Minotaur [1]

After injuring its leg and making the mana monster boss stumble backward from the force of the blow, Orion immediately aimed for the neck, his holy blade arcing through the air with deadly precision and intent to finish the fight quickly.

But of course, the minotaur immediately lifted its massive axe and swung it to deflect the angel’s attack, the two weapons clashing in a shower of sparks that illuminated the ruined plaza and sent shockwaves through the crumbling buildings around them.

"Wow!" Orion was forced to dive down as to not be cut in half by the counterattack, his angel wings flapping behind him as he maneuvered through the air with practiced grace and agility that came from years of experience.

Unlike anyone else Leon had seen yet, except Violet, Orion seemed to be able to use his wings whenever he wanted without any apparent limitation or cost, making him incredibly mobile in combat.

That was one of the main reasons why Leon wasn’t able to attack him when they met a few hours ago, because the angel could simply fly away whenever he wanted, avoiding any dangerous situation.

The angel faced the [Berserker Minotaur], and while his holy blade could manage to hurt it and draw blood with each strike, even the angel seemed to not win immediately, the battle dragging on far longer than he had expected.

"You’re the first monster that didn’t die in a few seconds," Orion laughed, a devilish smile on his face as his excitement rose, "Finally, something worthy in this domain to test my skills against!"

ROOOOOAR!

The minotaur wasn’t capable of speech, so it simply got back up, the wound on its leg visibly closing as its regeneration kicked in and the flesh knit itself back together.

’It also got a regeneration passive, huh,’ Leon’s eyes narrowed as he observed from the shadows, his mind racing with possibilities, ’It really is a boss monster.’

Any injury that didn’t fatally injure the minotaur or overwhelm it could be shaken off by it in a matter of seconds, making it incredibly durable and difficult to put down for good.

And if that was how the minotaur acted in battle, then Leon wondered what the other three berserkers could do in their respective areas across the domain.

Tick! Tick!

The only thing Leon knew was that they were doing their job extremely well, as the amount of participants kept ticking down with each passing moment, the numbers dropping steadily.

And after a few seconds of this relentless elimination, a notification appeared that showed just how far the numbers had dropped since the event began.

Ding!

[Only 100 participants remain in the event.]

’Damn,’ Leon thought, the gravity of the situation sinking in as he realized how many had been eliminated already.

Tick! Tick!

[Nevermind, only 99... Oh, 98 actually.]

"...Ok," Leon muttered.

Even though the amount of players still standing in Iris’ domain was now in the double digits, the speed at which it was going down was not reducing at all, in fact it seemed to be increasing with each passing minute.

The other berserkers, much like the minotaur, likely looked for players in their areas to kill them, hunting down anyone who dared to stay hidden or try to wait out the event.

Even if you tried to hide from them, you stood no chance of surviving their relentless pursuit, and attempting to run away would make you waste precious time that you could use to obtain more mana points instead.

Meaning that if the players wanted to proceed and have any hope of winning this event, which for many was simply being in the top 10, they’d have to eliminate the berserkers in their areas before the bosses eliminated them.

Regardless, Leon focused back on the fight between Orion and the minotaur, his eyes tracking every movement and analyzing their techniques.

The two seemed to be fairly equal in power, which made Leon understand that Orion had around 10 million combat power, a truly impressive number that few players ever reached.

For someone at level 100, having so much combat power was extremely rare except if you spent many years grinding and optimizing your build to perfection.

Even Leon in his past life hadn’t reached this level after many years in his higher domain, which showed just how exceptional Orion was compared to the average player.

But of course, the true exponential growth happened in the [Eternal Battlefield] where the real powerhouses were forged through endless combat.

In there, there were so many things that could help players increase their [Combat Power] that the difference of power between level 100 players became enormous, creating a massive gap that was hard to bridge.

Still though, Orion seemed to have an edge because of his unique abilities and versatile fighting style that kept the minotaur off balance.

Golden Rings!

He finally used one of his skills, and dozen golden aura circles appeared around the angel, spinning with power and glowing with holy light.

He pointed his holy blade forward and stabbed, and the golden ring rushed toward the minotaur with blinding speed that caught the beast off guard.

The massive boss swung its massive axe to deflect some of the rings, and even cut some of them up with precise strikes that showed its combat awareness.

But right as it dashed forward, jumping into the air and releasing its aura to hit the angel directly, Orion had already predicted its move and was waiting.

"Got you~" Orion smiled, his eyes gleaming with triumph as his trap was sprung.

SLASH!

Some of the rings that had been deflected returned from behind, hitting the same spot: one of the minotaur’s arms, the attack slicing clean through the flesh and bone.

It was instantly cut off, liters of blood flooding the plaza below them as the minotaur roared in agony, stumbling backward from the shock of the injury.

It was massively injured now, and Orion immediately used this opportunity to slash at the minotaur repeatedly, pressing his advantage with ruthless efficiency.

The boss visibly started to slow down after all of the attacks, its movements becoming sluggish and labored as the damage accumulated.

Because even though it was able to defend its head and fatal spots nicely, all the injuries around its body were accumulating and wearing it down over time.

And in opposition to what Leon thought earlier, the "regeneration" didn’t come with no cost whatsoever, it drained the minotaur’s energy reserves.

The minotaur actually had to spend some of its energy to heal itself, which meant it was slowly exhausting its reserves and becoming weaker.

ROOOAR!

And so instead of healing its injuries at this point, it decided to give up that strategy entirely and focus on overwhelming offense.

While still missing an arm, it held its axe with its other one, and focused its entire aura around its legs and arm, powering up for a devastating attack that would end the fight.

Then, without any warning, it moved with impossible speed that defied its massive size.

BOOM!

Even though the minotaur was massive in size, it blitzed out of its current position and appeared right behind Orion, the ground cracking where it had been standing from the sheer force.

"What the—" Orion started, but he didn’t have time to finish his sentence as the axe collided with him.

SLAM!

Even the insanely fast angel couldn’t truly react to this sudden movement, instead forced to raise his defense and holy blade to block the attack.

The minotaur’s axe met Orion’s blade, but the sheer force of the impact was enough to send him flying backward through the air like a ragdoll.

And he didn’t simply hit the wall, because since he was flying with his wings, Orion quite literally simply kept going into the distance, sent out hundreds of meters away from the plaza and out of sight.

Leon watched it all unfold from the shadows, his eyes tracking the angel’s trajectory, and at that moment, he knew that it was his time to act.

Orion wouldn’t be here for a little while, and the minotaur was distracted and injured, this was the perfect opportunity to strike and claim the kill for himself.

Because even Leon knew he’d have a hard time facing that thing head on, even though it was crippled, he needed to be smart about his approach.
