Leon and Violet both opened their chests at the same time, the lids creaking as they lifted them.
And the rewards immediately began to flow out in a soft glow of light that illuminated their faces and cast dancing shadows across the garden grass.
As Iris had said earlier, since she was the one that chose the reward personally, Leon’s talent didn’t really have any use in this situation.
He couldn’t multiply or enhance what was inside the chest to get more than what was intended.
He would have loved to have a treasure chest which contained dozens of items and he could only get one though, as that would mean he’d obtain all of it through his talent, much like he did with the [Divine Box] back in the Divine Academy.
But still, he would still get the best rewards available since he ranked first and earned the top spot, so he couldn’t complain too much about the system working differently this time.
And so, as he opened the chest fully and peered inside, he saw four items lying within, each of them glowing with a different colored light that pulsed with energy and seemed to hum with power.
"Nice," Violet grinned, her eyes scanning her own chest with obvious satisfaction, "I only got three items, the first place person really gets the best stuff, I’m a little jealous."
The third place player only got two items, and from there, most of the others in the leaderboard only got 2 or even 1 items if they were at the bottom of the ranking.
Of course, each of these items were incredible and powerful, far beyond anything they’d be able to obtain normally through regular grinding or questing, making them truly valuable.
But the fact the top one got so much more than all of them was incredible and showed just how valuable first place truly was in the grand scheme of things.
And with Violet being in Leon’s group and receiving the overflow of mana points, they had definitely obtained the best items among all the participants combined.
He quickly stored everything in his storage space to check later in detail, then got ready to leave the garden as Celeste was waiting for them outside the castle gates.
"I hope you had fun, Celestial," Leon heard Orion’s voice behind him, a hint of grudging respect in his tone, "I will not attack now, for there is no reason to, but if our paths ever cross in [Eternal Battlefield], be ready for a real fight."
Many players didn’t know what the [Eternal Battlefield] was or that it was what was waiting for them at level 100, but the fact Orion knew already meant he was far from normal and had access to information most didn’t.
Leon couldn’t even guess which world he was from or how much experience he had, but he knew the angel would be a dangerous opponent in the future if they ever met again.
Orion released his wings and, while still carrying his chest under his arm, he flew into the distance, disappearing over the castle walls without looking back.
’He’s already level 100, meaning that he can go into the [Eternal Battlefield] anytime he wants, while I still have a few levels to go,’ Leon thought, watching him leave.
Leon, Violet and Emilia also left the imperial castle’s garden, walking through the grand gates, and near the entrance they found Celeste, who was busy playing with Pyra while waiting for them.
"You guys are back!" Celeste beamed as she went to hug her two friends tightly, then Leon, her face filled with relief, "Sorry for dying, I didn’t have much Mana Points anyway so I wasn’t going to get a reward."
"Its fine," Leon nodded, patting her head reassuringly, "We already got enough rewards for the entire group, so don’t worry about it."
"Oh~?" Celeste smiled, her curiosity piqued by his words, "And what’s those rewards exactly?"
"We’re about to find out," Violet said as she pulled out her three items from her storage space, placing them on a nearby stone bench for everyone to see.
In her hand were the following: [Frost Rapier], [Supreme Healing Potion] and the [Max-Level Skill Book] that Iris had showcased before the event began.
"Amazing," Leon nodded, examining each item carefully, "The potion is the worst of the three in terms of rarity, but even it is an invaluable item that many players would kill for."
An amputated player would pay any price to retrieve their limbs, and so this potion was one of their only hopes if they didn’t want to outright die.
The [Frost Rapier] was no joke either, it was one of the best weapons Leon had seen yet in his entire journey through the higher domains.
[Frost Rapier (Ascendant): +50,000 Attack Power, +50,000 Strength, +40,000 Agility, +35,000 Spirit. Allows its user to make use of the "Ice" element.]
Wanting to test it out, Violet swung the rapier lightly through the air, and ice erupted on the ground before them, freezing the grass instantly and creating a small patch of frost.
"O-Oh shit!" Violet’s eyes widened with surprise and delight at the display of power, "At least we know it works!"
Then it was finally Leon’s turn to showcase his rewards, and his eyes were just as incredible as he laid them out, though he had one more item than her.
[Supreme Healing Potion (Legendary): Upon consuming, will heal all injuries and possibly even restore lost limbs.]
’Well, at least I recovered the one I used because of Orion, so I’m back to where I started with my supply,’ Leon thought, satisfied with the replacement.
[Resurrection Stone (Legendary)]
[Max-Level Skill Book (Ascendant): Allows you to evolve a skill of ascendant-rank or below to level 10 instantly.]
"Yes!" Leon’s eyes flashed with excitement as he saw the item he had been hoping for the most.
He thought Violet had gotten the item that he had been looking for, but thankfully Iris had granted them to many of the players in the leaderboard, including him.
This meant he could immediately evolve one of his skills to max level without wasting any [Skill Stones] that he had been saving for this purpose.
Of course, he needed to be smart about it, using the max-level skill book on a skill that’s level 5 or above was a big no since it would waste the potential.
The best one to use it on right now was [Shadow Bullet], it was an ascendant-rank skill and only level 3, meaning the book would give it the maximum benefit.
But Leon kept the skill book for now just in case he wanted to use it for another skill he acquired later, not wanting to rush his decision.
And then the last item was... an envelope, stamped with some sort of lizard face on it, the paper feeling slightly warm to the touch.
[Iris’ Letter]
"...That’s the last item?" Leon tilted his head, somewhat disappointed, "I would have preferred something else, like another weapon."
Still though, he couldn’t judge too quickly, as he had to assume Iris wouldn’t give such a letter for no reason, there had to be something important inside.
And so, Leon decided to open it and read what it contained.
[If you are reading this, it means you scored first in the excursion, as a reward, please come to the Imperial Castle tomorrow night!]
[You can bring up to 5 people with you, if you want, though they won’t receive anything (except food)]
"Interesting," Leon’s eyes gleamed with curiosity, "Well then, why not, I’m curious what she wants."
