Chapter 402: The Imperial Party [2], Beginning of the End

"We don’t have such a party often," Iris spoke with a smile, her voice carrying across the room, "But today is special, as a new record has been beaten for one of our many excursions~"

’Oh yeah, the banner said that I beat the record,’ Leon thought to himself, ’I guess that’s why she never bothered to put jars with a higher capacity.’

The light then transferred to surround Leon, making sure that everyone saw him and recognized his achievement, the spotlight following his movements.

"He already got his rewards for this," Iris continued, "But... I believe he deserves just one more for this incredible feat."

’Hell yeah, I knew it!’ Leon grinned internally, his excitement building at the prospect of more rewards.

Not only does he get to enjoy himself in this royal party but he also would get a reward on top of it, making the night even better than he had hoped.

Everything seemed to be going amazingly well at that moment, the perfect ending to a perfect event and a celebration of his victory.

But right at that moment, as the party was about to resume and everything seemed to go well... a panel appeared before Leon that made his blood run cold and his heart stop.

It was crimson, with a faint godly energy coming from it that made his skin crawl and his instincts scream danger.

[This is the perfect moment, today is the day!]

"...?" Leon stared at the words with a confused expression.

He didn’t know where this panel or these words could come from or what they could mean.

But subconsciously, Leon knew it could only come from one thing: the [God of War’s Letter] that he had kept in his storage space.

He tried to ignore it for now, focusing on the party and the celebration, but as the minutes passed, more and more panels appeared, each one more ominous than the last.

[Today is that day!]

[The "God of War’s" plan is coming to fruition!]

Then while he was talking to the girls, another panel appeared, interrupting his conversation.

[The gods are waiting, they are all waiting.]

...And yet again while eating, more panels flooded his vision, relentless and persistent.

[The beginning of the end, something no one can ever stop!]

Dozens upon dozens of similar panels appeared, making Leon’s chest tighten with a growing sense of dread and unease.

For some strange reason, he had a horrible feeling about all of this, as if something terrible was about to happen that he couldn’t prevent.

Eventually, as the hours bled and the party continued around him, Leon finally managed to talk to Iris who decided to head down from her balcony to greet him personally.

"So, how do you like the party?" she smiled, her voice warm and inviting.

"Its nice," Leon nodded faintly, though his pupils remained on the panels that kept appearing in his peripheral vision.

[All the gods are in place.]

"Well, I guess I gotta give you that reward, then," Iris spun her staff in her hand, "I’m sure you’ll enjoy it."

"Why not, It’s getting pretty late, and I plan to level up a bit tomorrow before heading toward that stronghold I heard about."

[All the Celestials are in place.]

"You mean that one that’s extremely deep in the domain?" Iris scratched her chin thoughtfully, "Be careful, I heard that something shady’s going on there, plus, all the most dangerous places are around it, so stay alert."

[All the vessels, pawns and servants are in place.]

"I will," Leon nodded, deciding to remember this for later if he perhaps needed it, "Though I’m sure someone like you would quickly destroy everyone there."

"Not so sure," Iris shook her head, her expression turning serious, "The stronghold’s lord, as well as his guild members... they are terrifyingly strong, or so I heard from reliable sources."

"Huh," Leon said, filing that information away for later consideration.

[Today marks the end of the peace, and the start of the reign of the gods.]

At that moment, Leon finally had enough of the cryptic messages, and he pulled out the [God of War’s Letter] from his storage space, the crimson paper feeling hot in his hands and pulsing with dark energy.

He opened it, and the eye in it simply gazed at him, a dark crimson vortex appearing in it, spinning with malevolent energy that seemed to draw him in.

"Alright, what the hell are you talking about?" Leon groaned, trying to get any information he could, "What’s so crazy today?"

There was no answer for a few seconds, the silence stretching, but then one final word appeared, glowing with ominous light that made his heart sink.

[Goodbye.]

BOOM!

And at that moment, everything descended into chaos and madness.

"ARRRRGHHHH!"

Leon heard a scream, and he turned around to see one of the guards in the chamber cut through two people using his sword, their bodies collapsing to the ground in a pool of blood.

He lifted his head, and Leon saw a malevolent energy surround him, as if he was being controlled by some unseen force, his eyes glowing with crimson light.

[Enjoy the show, Celestial, and hopefully we will meet again.]

Leon saw the letter glow out of nowhere, pulsing with dark energy, and he instinctively threw it into the air as far as he could, not wanting it near him.

BOOM!

It exploded in a giant explosion that sent a shockwave through the castle, shattering windows and knocking people off their feet, the force of the blast rattling the walls.

Leon’s [Mega Darkness Barrier] tanked the explosion, absorbing the brunt of the blast and protecting him, but most others weren’t so lucky, as screams rang across the castle and chaos erupted everywhere.

All around where Leon looked, he saw guards killing people, as if possessed by some dark force.

Their eyes were blank and their movements mechanical, and other players fighting back desperately to survive against the onslaught.

"What the hell’s happening?!" Iris’ face was livid, her party had turned into a massacre out of nowhere, "WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!"

She immediately lifted her staff, using her [Nature’s String] skill to bind all of the imperial guards in the chamber, holding them in place with magical vines.

She then approached one of them and spoke with a furious expression, demanding answers, "Why are you doing this?!"

The lizard guard gazed at her with the same crimson vortex in his eyes as the one Leon had seen in the letter, his expression blank and unresponsive, as if he wasn’t even there.

For some strange reason, almost all of the guards were being controlled by the God of War, or so Leon assumed from what he had seen and the letter’s message.

But... if this was going on inside of the Imperial Castle, then how was the situation outside in the kingdom and the streets?

Leon suddenly felt a shiver down his spine, but he didn’t have the time to wonder too much about it, because something worse was coming.

From the crimson mist of the explosion of the god of war’s letter, something appeared, a massive figure emerging from the smoke with terrifying presence.

And a panel appeared in front of everyone at the same time, displaying a chilling message that made everyone stop and stare.

Ding!

[The "Vessel of War" has appeared to put an end to this kingdom... or this entire domain, to be exact.]

...
